Excellent Experience! – I brought my whole family to see the doctors at Rosenblum Eye Centers. I went once with my two oldest kids, one with my two younger kids at which point I was seen as well. The younger kids were seen by Dr. Shechter. He was friendly and warm. The kids understood the exam as he was talking to them in a child friendly way though out. I found that he had an excellent way with them!
The older kids saw Dr. Hong and Dr. Rosenblum (one each). They did not have to wait long at all and were happy with the experience. They both had new prescriptions since last year. My son picked out glasses with Scott at the the front of the office. They had the most stylish glasses around- (my teens would know!) My daughter needed new lenses for her current frames, but forgot to bring a back up pair of glasses. the office gave her contacts to wear for the next few days until her glasses can be picked up.
All in all it was an excellent experience!
Didn't even get to see a Dr!! Dr was a no show! – I had a 12:15 appointment and there was a girl in front of me with a 12pm appt for Dr. Belous. At 12:45 Dr. Belous wasn't even in yet and we were both just sitting there waiting until the receptionist said she was running late. it was not te girl at the front desks fault, she was nice, but this was my 2nd time I went there and the 2nd time the Dr. was not even there when she had appts. How unproffesional is that? I left work for my appt and sat there 45 minutes for nothing and then left without even being looked at. DO not suggest this place AT ALL. I understand waiting 30-40 minutes to see a Dr. but for a Dr. to just not show and have No regard for people's time in NYC is ridiculous. Also, the reason the front staff may be rude is because they are so udnerstaffed. the phones didn't stop rining and patients just sat there hrassing the girl at the front desk because the Dr's don't show! It would suck to have her job.
LASIK/PRK Refractive Surgery – I had refractive surgery with this doctor. I have terrible starbursts and glare as a result of my corrected area being too small for my pupils, Performed at Laser one with the VISX. Corrected area was smaller than doctor said.
Good CL specialist but horrible administration – They always get my appointments wrong. They called me in to come pick up my contacts and when I arrived there my contacts were not ready yet. This happened to me TWICE. It takes me 1 1/2 hour to get there by train. They wasted my time just because of their sloppy administration. The person in charge of appointments was always too busy and confused. She put me on hold for so long when I just wanted her to check if my contacts were ready. 0 stars for the appointment maker.
As for my contact lens specialist Dr. Susan Hong, she did an excellent job with my RGP lenses. I'm surprised at the bad reviews. I guess I'm lucky. She immediately switched me to a more comfortable brand. She's very persistent and achieved getting my problematic left eye to see 20/20. I have not seen this well since 15 years ago. I came out with my new RGPs seeing better than I ever remembered. Crisp, vivid, glare-free, comfortable, 20/20 in both eyes (that's pretty good for a high myope like me). I wasn't charged for the contacts with refractive errors from the trial fitting. I paid for two lenses. The whole process was less expensive than I expected. 5 stars for Dr. Hong.
The worst doctor, the worst center ever! – I was there to see Dr. Liviu Saimovici, after I was waiting 2 months to get this appointment for such an INCOMPETENT doctor!
I came in at exactly the time of my appointment (it was also my lunch time), and more then an hour passed and the doctor will not call me. It was such a mess! The staff was rude, they will not care and the doctors were all over the place. running around and it look like a jungle.
After more then an hour I was called, 2 times tested and given a prescription that it was completely wrong: I have progressive glasses from 2006 and the new prescription was less then my glasses when I was claiming that my eye sight was deterioreting.
I went in 2 places to have my glasses done and I was told that the prescription was wrong. I called the center and after numeous calls I was told to come in for a second check-up with another doctor and I was giving an appointment. On the day of the appointment when I arrive there I was told that I was not in their computer with the appointment and I can not be seen. I asked for the office manager and she put me thru with a technician who gave me a completely different prescription. Even this one seems to be wrong and the person at the optical place who made my previous glasses insists to see their doctor in order to check the new prescription.
The doctor who saw me initially at the Center, Dr. Saimovici, he was completely incompetent.
THIS CENTER SHOULD BE CLOSED COMPLETELY - THEY ARE INCOMPETENTS , SUPERFICIALS AND ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE.
This is a joke center. a nightmare!!
Definetively to be avoided.
Poor Administrative Staff – I went to Dr. Rosenblum's office after finding him through my insurance plan's website. I called to book an appointment and to double check that they do indeed take my insurance. After confirming that they do, and that I could purchase glasses/contacts at that location, the receptionist asked which doctor I would like to see; I requested Dr. Rosenblum.
I was kept waiting for about 45 minutes before I was taken into a room for my first exam. After my first sight exam, I was asked to wait for Dr. Rosenblum. Again, I waited for about 40 minutes until he came to the office. He was very thorough and nice, and it is because of him that I didn't give this a one-star rating. After my second exam, I asked his assistant if I would get my prescription for contacts at the front desk, and she said yes.
I went to pay my co-pay and am informed that 1) Dr. Rosenblum doesn't take my eye insurance because he is a medical doctor so I was forced to pay a $50 co-pay, instead of $10 co-pay like my eye insurance charges. 2) Dr. Rosenblum doesn't write prescriptions for contacts so the receptionist suggested I come back to see another doctor, for another exam, in order to get contacts. 3) I finally was able to have a prescription written for contacts, but they have to be ordered and I will have to return to pick them up.
I suggest that if you do decided to go to Dr. Rosenblum's office, you assume that you have to ask every single question (even those that you would assume one working there would know) in order to be sure that the administrative staff doesn't get confused and book your appointment incorrectly.
Poor Administrative Staff – The administrative staff at the Rosenblum office is awful. When i arrived at the office they had a TV blasting, the magazines were all over the place and about 6 girls were chatting behind the desk like they were in a coffee shop. I had an appointment for a certain test. I left work early to make sure I was on time for the test, I waited for about 10 minutes in the waiting room when I was told that they would have to reschedule my appointment because their machinery was broken. When I asked why they didn't call me before my appointment i was told very rudely by the staff that it wasn't their problem, that they are not the technicians and I pretty much just have to deal with it, i was then ignored until i finally gave up and just left the office. I will not be using this office again.
WORST EYE CENTER EVER – I selected this Dr. back in November because they claimed to be experts in gas permeable contacts. It is now January and I still do not have contacts. I had to go back 4 times to get the fitting done right. The first time I tried the lenses on, I knew in an instant, these were not fitting right. My vision was blurry, they hurt my eyes and they were making me dizzy. I told the Dr. She told me it was because they were new and needed some getting used to. Then she went to examine my eyes and the contact popped out and fell on the floor!!! "That's not good", the Dr. said. Uh, you think??? My 3rd set are finally ready and I'm so sick of going to this office, I want them to just mail them to me, thinking if they don't fit, I'll have to bite the bullet and go in. I called, got put on hold 4 times only to be told the person who originally put me on hold was busy and she'd have to call me back. Hello...I was just talking to you just mail me the contacts. I'm sick of speaking with these people and wonder if I can just cancel them and go somewhere else. Will my insurance company allow this? Let me also mention the 1+ hour long wait for a scheduled appointment. If you are looking for aggravation and irritation, then this is the eye doctor for you! If not, keep shopping.
Nicest eye center in the city – Since I've recently moved to NYC I've been to many eye centers in the search for the one I would feel most comfortable with. I've always been apprehensive about contact lenses but at the same time really wanted to get rid of my glasses and I have to say that Dr. Hong really made things so easy for me! She first reviewed my prescription then suggested different types of contact lenses based on my needs. Then she helped me place them in and adjusted the prescription based on my eye shape (I have astigmatism) ! It was like going in for a custom fitting!
I ordered trial pairs from different manufacturers to test them out and scheduled a follow up visit to discuss my choice. Switching to contacts is the best thing I could have done for my self esteem and I owe it all to Dr. Hong and her patience while I desperately tried to place my contacts into my eyes (hey it's scary at first!)
saved my life! really really good service. – i finally found a reliable eye doctor in this city. after going to three places, the first which lost my prescription, the second kept me waiting so long i had to leave and the third wanted $500 for a visit and
wouldn't accept my insurance.
on top of all that, i had what was in the beginning a mild irritation in my right eye which was getting progressively worse. the first place insisted that it was a temporary inflammation.
finally my friend told me about rosenblum eye center, he has been a customer of theirs for a long time. i was literally desperate. i almost got run over by a car while rubbing my eye because it was feeling so irritated.
i called rosenblum, they set me up with an appointment right away i didn't even have to miss work, they were very flexible with their scheduling. once i arrived, my doctor came out to greet me right on time, i didn't have to wait. my doctor there was Dr. Susan Hong (i actually thought it was wong until i saw her business card which i picked so i could be sure to see her next time. she was fantastic.) Dr. Hong made feel very comfortable in her office, answered all my questions extremely thoroughly and diagnosed my eye irritation as an infection. she sent me home that day with not only treatment for the infection (which luckily once properly treated takes only 3 days to fully heal) and a set of new prescription lenses which i could wear only 3 days after the completion of my treatment. i am so relieved to have finally found an eye doctor who knows what they are doing and really cares for their patient. i didn't feel rushed, not just dr. hong, but everyone in the office was very polite and made me feel right at home. i am now a loyal customer of rosenblum and i would recommend them to anyone, especially Dr. Susan Hong. i would especially seek her out.
