Terrible Coustomer Service- By Manager of 33rd Street – I would not recommend using this car rental agency. You are much better off going with a large reputable named company. It's worth the extra money.
The customer service was just terrrible, and worse, it was at the direction of the manager himself. My boyfriend and I spent over $700 in renting an exotic car . We got stuck in traffic on the way to return the car and explained that to the staff. No one told me at any point that we would be charged for those extra hours that were beyond our control. It turned out that we were a little over 2 hours late. The manager said they have a 1 hour grace period, but since I was over it, we were being charged a full 3 hours (they apparently round up!). He was nasty, unprofessional, and could not articulate where it stated in the contract that extra fees would apply. Most rental agencies are lenient when it comes to returning a car, especially when it's in the evening and no one was waiting for the car.
To top it off, they gave us a car which had the inspection/registration expired and an EZ pass that didn't work. Save yourself the aggravation of dealing with ignorant staff!
Turned a bad situation into a good service experience – I booked a 15 passenger van online and when I went to pickup the van they informed me the van was involved in a front end accident. Not a good start I thought, the staff explained they had called both numbers and left messages regarding the situation. I checked my voice mail and indeed they did call at 8 in the morning 4 hours before my pickup time, and my wife also left me a voice mail stating they had also left a message on our answering machine at home. I guess that what happens when you have unreliable T-mobile service, but thats another review. Being that I had 8 kids waiting for me to pick them up for my sons birthday party at six flags I was a little unsure of what would happen next. The manager there spoke with me and offered some solutions, he even took me to the car lot and showed me the damaged van to confirm what they were stating was true. Luckily my brother was with me and the manager offered me two minivans or two seven seater SUV'' to accommodate my passengers. I looked at the pricing and it was going to be an extra $110, before I even stated that to the manager he said he would make the total charges come out to what the 15 passenger van total would have been. I was very impressed at how management handled a tough situation and in the end made me and the kids happy. Customer service like this is what I appreciate, and management here did not drop the ball. Satisfied customer.
Longtime customer – I have been renting with Action for the past 3 years. Sometimes I use the service on 33rd street, sometimes I use the service at their downtown Broadway location. No matter where I go the people are always professional and nice. I established a relationship with one of the managers who helped me out when I got into an accident with a yellow cab in one of there rentals. Now I just ask for him when I reserve a vehicle, when I go to pick up the rental the paperwork and vehicle are waiting for me, i sign and drive. Top notch customer service
Good customer service – Used there service for a week. The car I received had low mileage and worked perfect for my needs. It was a big help that the rear seats folded down because I needed the room for my fishing rods. The people that work for them were friendly and helpful. I would choose there company again for future rentals.
Service was great – My wife and I picked up a Mini from them for a weekend. The ladies behind the counter were extremely friendly, and gave us some recommendations to visit for outlet shopping, as we are from the UK. The car was great and their staff were very friendly. 5 star service!
Be certain to check the gas level when the car is pick-up, as once i did not and then, ran out of gas after driving less than 70 miles, on a turnpike, in upper New York, stranded for nearly 1 hour at night waiting for a tow truck to find the location. The next time i rented a car (lack of options) it had less than 1/4 tank of gas. It was more painful to complain to management (they're incompetent) then to suck it up.
Service was good, cheap rate – After reading the horrible reviews on citysearch I almost canceled my reservation with them, I'm glad I didn't. I went ahead with my reservation. I was a bit anal about everything so I called the office and spoke to one of their representatives about policies and hidden fees that they might charge me once I get there. The only charge that was added to my account was a mandatory drivers license check fee for "first time renters", to make sure my license was in good standing. I made sure to ask if this is stated online, and I confirmed it was under the policies section. So my total price for the midsize car I reserved came to $55.85 with all taxes and fees, and a mandatory hold of $300 as a deposit on my credit card. When I went to pick up my car I was charged exactly what the lady told me they would charge me. After about 10 minutes my paperwork was processed and my vehicle was outside waiting for me. Based on other post here I thought I would get a beat up dented older vehicle. To my surprise I got a really nice ford focus with less than 6000 miles on it. The car drove great and was drama- free for my day trip to Pennsylvania. When I returned my car the next morning, the young lady gave me a final receipt with my final charge total, and a voided receipt for $300 deposit. This rental company gave me very good service and I would recommend them, I will continue to use Action, CHEAP RATES, good service.
Good experience – I used this place a couple times last month to complete some holiday shopping, and then to do some after holiday outlet sales shopping at Woodbury Commons. The cars I used were both clean and worked fine. All I need is a car with an ipod connection and and a car that feels safe, and I'm happy. I recommend trying them, I used them twice and I was happy both times.
Awful--car broke down, company ignored my phone calls – Horrible experience. I rented a car for Thanksgiving weekend. Picked the car up Wednesday morning, 11/26/09. It was a Ford Focus with 39700 miles on it. (There was a sticker on the windshield saying "next service due: 33000 miles or 9/29/09." Obviously, both of those things had passed. Great.) Got to my destination fine. On Friday, the car wouldn't start up -- dead battery. I thought maybe I had left a light on or something so I had to call AAA and have them jump the battery, then drove it around for an hour or two and made sure I had turned everything off. Saturday morning when I wanted to leave, the battery was dead again. AAA jumped it and I left for New York. Several hours later I stopped to refuel the car in Connecticut. The engine was off for maybe 5 minutes, then wouldn't start up: dead battery again. Got another jump from AAA, and also called the Action office, where I left a message with a woman who said there was no manager there now but that one would call me back on Monday. No one called me on Monday. I called them Tuesday-- a different woman took down my info, said a manager would call me tomorrow. No one called Wednesday. I called back Thursday. The woman said that her "fleet manager" was "on the road" and that I couldn't talk to him: only she could. She put me on hold for 5 minutes, then came back and said that the fleet manager had checked out the car and said there was nothing at all wrong with it. I asked to speak to a manager: she said the fleet manager was "on the road" and that there was no office manager in the office and that I should "maybe call back later." (This was the middle of the day on a weekday.) I got angry and yelled at her about how it was THEIR responsibility to call ME back. She agreed to have a manager call me. I never heard from them again. Unbelievable.
avoid at all cost – rented a VW, a SAFE and GREAT car, according to their website. I inspected it in their dark and stinky garage, finding the driver door repaired, sounding hollow and cardboardy when shut.
Once I got home and was actually under some streetlamps, I discovered that the front airbag-column was hanging lose and the airbag was missing. AHA! the repaired door tells a story , that of it being smashed so hard that the airbag exploded and wasnt replaced!!!
Same with the plastic on the inside of the door, lose. The window made a whiney noise going down ...as if to say "enough already".
I am seriously thinking of suing them for reckless endangerment and false statements ...remember 'GREAT, SAFE CAR"
Oh yes, look at their fineprint in the contract. Its worth it, alone for the 100,000 "Thank you"s after sentences like "you break a tire, you pay for it, we are not responsible"
I rather BIKE to Vermont next time.
