Worth EVERY Penny !! – After going to Dominican hair salons all my life, my hair never lived up to its full potential. For the last 6 months, I've been experiencing a sore scalp, damages ends and lifeless hair. I stopped into Ebony style, wanting to treat myself to a luxury experience, thinking "at least their products will be better". What I got was a whole lot more! I received a scalp treatment, protein treatment, dark rinse and a wash/cut/blow ( like i said, my hair needed help), all done by Merna. She was the best! We had a consultation about everything prior to my first process. She let e know exactly what was wrong and how to correct the damage at home and with her help. She was very professional, sweet and fun!
No, she is not cheap, and trust me she knows this. However, Merna lets people know how to maintain healthy hair even when you can't make it to the salon as often as you like. That's just shows me that she is concerned about the quality of your hair, more than you dishing out loads of cash from your wallet. An A++ in my book!
Merna is incredible! – I travel a lot for work and usually do my hair when I’m back home in LA, but on this particular trip I had a work engagement and didn’t make it back home. I’ve only been to 2 other salons in New York and the truth is the experience was rather average. You could say I'm more than a little particular about my cuts and color and am always nervous about trusting someone new. So when a colleague in the New York office recommended her stylist (her hair always looks great), I figured why not. I went to the salon and fell in love with its intimate feel. I seemed like a place where a lot of young professionals do their hair. The receptionist was very professional and asked me to wait 5 minutes because Merna was finishing a consult with another client. Talking to Merna felt like visiting with an old friend, she examined my hair to see what my stylist had done, asked what I was looking for as well as made some recommendations. I walked out with amazing highlights and a fresh new cut. Merna did a fantastic job and I'm extremely happy with the color and cut. I had a number of compliments about my hair at the event I went to that night and I owe it all to Merna and of course my colleague for hooking me up with a great stylist. I think I have found another one of NYC hidden treasures and she is definitely my go to stylist whenever I’m in the city. I don’t consider that cheating on my stylist back home.
P.S. I read the last review and I can’t disagree more. I understand that not everyone is going to feel the same about a particular service or product. I have couple of friends who don’t think my iPhone is all that, but I love it, and most of my friends think it’s a really kool phone. So when it comes to reviews I’m going to stay with the majority opinion…I think Merna is a great stylist. By the way, I am a client not the salon owner.
Expensive for no reason! – I don't think I believe in these Citysearch reviews anymore. I went to this salon for a wash, condition and cut by the owner, Merna and paid $148 (and that's with a discount)!! For this price, I would have expected more, maybe a consultation before the service, maybe recommendations on products to use on my own. Also I would have expected my hair to be smooth, silky and bouncy, especially after a $30 deep conditioner. Instead it was dry and and kind of lifeless. As for the cut, well in fact it was some weird trim and I was charged $60 for it (when on the phone I was told it would be $30)! I don't get the impression the owner knew what she was doing...the way she was moving my head...it was just whatever.. my cut just looks weird and choppy, not professional. I think I was ripped off big time! I think all these reviews are a bit exaggerated -- in fact I think the salon owners are the major contributors. Don't be scammed like me.
Clients are encouraged to return to the salon if they received a service and were not pleased. Excellent service and great haircare are important to us. One visit to a salon to correct years of poor haircare does not result in great hair, but practicing good haircare consistently can restore hair. Our loyal clients who keep coming back is proof of that.
Beautiful and Healthy At Last – After a six weeks of the protein treatments my hair is growing and looking healthy again. I came to ebony styles because my hair started getting really thin and damaged after nearly a year with the inexpensive dominican stylist that I was going to every week. I thought I was developing alopecia, but it turns out my thinning hair was the result of poor hairstyling and haircare. I am just really glad I caught it in time and now I have my hair back. If you like healthy and beautiful hair and want to keep it for a long time then I recommend the stylist and ebony styles.
Fabulous Haircut – If you want to get a fabulous haircut then you must get an appointment with Merna. She is a genius with scissors. It is not cheap, but you get what you pay for, a fabulous cut. Thanks Merna
GREAT CUT AND COLOR – ooooh i love my hair!!!!. I had one of the most fabulous hair cut and coloring done on my hair at ESI beauty salon in NYC ..the stylist Merna did a great job in recommending the right color and hair cut for me. I was nervous at first never did anything radical with my hair before!!. Now my hair behaves, i get compliments all the time, the staff is top notch. Glad i stopped in.
Greatest Corrected Mistake – I have unruly, dry, mixed curly hair and being from an array of ethnicities, I found it very hard to maintain my hair at almost any salon in the city. I had overtressed and over worked my hair with flat irons and relaxers until I finally decided to chop it off myself. What a mistake. I went to Ebony Styles and received full princess treatment. They fixed my cut and gave me a Moroccan Oil intense hydrating mask which restored the moisture and softness of my hair. My hair has been more manageable ever since.
Great salon, excellent location – When I moved to New York City about a year ago, I had a hard time finding a reasonably priced, ethnic hair salon that was easily accessible from Murray Hill. When I found Ebony Styles, I was delighted that I only had to travel 3 stops on the train, but I was even more delighted by the service. Ms Merna and her team of ladies are very professional and warm, unlike the folks you find in many midtown salons. I am very particular about my hair, but I feel comfortable at Ebony Styles. They take good care of my hair.
Nice Salon – I've been going to Ebony styles for about a year or so. My hair was dry and badly damaged when I made my first appointment. One year later I have healthy, smooth and easy to manage hair. I would highly recommend if you are interested in establishing healthy hair.
Finally a sister can get a real hair cut – The salon is really nice. There is no one hour wait, thank goodness. When I came in I was greeted warmly which put a smile on my face. I was given a smock to protect my clothing and a towel for my neck, a consultation and then we talked about what I wanted my hair to eventually do(because my hair is short and damaged). Well she went to work and I must say, Yvette did her thing, my hair looks great. I had a wonderful wash and then condition and was out in less than 3 hours(the consult was a half hour) now that's what I'm talking about. I'm a customer for life I get color next week, prices are not to bad, BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. If you never had a good cut try them out
