The best haircut and color!!! – In all my years, I have never been treated with so much respect! I loved everyone at RARE! Besides being the most amazing hair stylist's, it was so much fun! I would recommend RARE to everyone who wants fabulous hair and immpeccable service! Take it from me until you've been there, you don't know what you've been missing!
best experience for a very long time – i always had a hard time finding a good colorist.....i had bad experiences in NYC.....until i found this girl with her firey hair at Rare.... she was extremely genuine and sweet and it was a real pleasure spending 4 hours under her professional hands. she first asked me what i wanted then gave me her opinion taking in the consideration of the color of my eyes and skin. i felt right away that she was gonna make me prettier so i just let her do her thing without any pressure .she started coloring my hair explaining step by step to me why she was putting the product in my hair...that's unusual because most of the time they do their thing without telling you what they are doing...ohhhh i had a great massage while she was washing my hair!!!!
right away when i left the place i compliments starting pouring in, so i knew already that she did a good job but she also made me prettier!!!!
not to forgot the place ....Ruth is just amazing she has her own way to make you feel at home...and the whole team is just very thoughtful and kind !!!! great team energy and work!!!!!!!
i am very happy i found my stylist, colorist, Fatima!!
Rare IS rare! – I have to say that my time at Rare was awesome. I have never been completely happy about a hair cut....at 24. Not only is my hair awesome, but I am actually excited to get it cut again. The shop is great, it's right around the block, and out of the hustle and bustle. If you want to relax AND get an awesome cut that people notice, go to Rare!
best salon everrrrrr – i love love love this salon! i have been going here for about a year and wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair!
everyone there is super friendly, not stuck up at all. it also has a nice clean atmosphere, not too frilly.
their blowouts are THE BEST! you end up leaving with the most beautiful hair that looks completely natural!
all in all this is a great salon with great people!
Fabulous Stylist! – I just returned from having Aiko color my hair and look like I should be on a Pantene commercial!
While I never take the time to write reviews on these boards, I felt compelled to write about how fantastic Aiko has made my hair look. I entered the salon today with a frizzy, drab, brown mess and left with shiny, smooth beautiful hair.
The stylist was committed to insuring that my hair be exactly what I wanted, and made my hair look prettier than it ever has before.
I recommend this stylist in the highest possible terms! My cut and color are fabulous whenever I visit her, and the salon is lovely.
BEST HAIR PLACE EVER! – This is my favorite place to get my hair done. I go here at least twice a month for everything from blowouts to highlights. I have had my hair done by everyone there and you can feel safe sitting in anyone's chair. Its a great place to walk in and be sure you're going to leave with an amazing new look. I've had my hair lightened, darkened, shortened and extended. Updos, blowouts, wavysets and party styles - anyone can make you look incredible!!!
If you are worried about money - don't be here! You get the same quality as those high end salons and a far more reasonable price. I've been to everywhere on Fifth avenue, and my hair usually costs at least a third the price at Rare, and looks just as great!
Great Stylists, Great Atmosphere, Beautiful Haircuts! – I walked into Rare as I was recommended by a friend. The girl who greeted me was so kind, took my coat and asked me if I wanted tea, water, juice. She was very pretty and had great hair! The space is open and very clean. They have the latest magazines to read while you wait, which is not that long. I only waited for 5 minutes before I was taken in for my haircut and highlights. All the stylists said hello to me and were very friendly. The girl who cut and colored my hair was very helpful and made suggestions about color and what haircut would suit my face shape. She was friendly as were all the other stylists. There is also a girl who threads eyebrows while your color is setting!!!
After my cut, color and blowout the owner of the salon came over to introduce herself, Ruth, and complemented my stylist. It shows that she really cares about her employees and the work that they do.
All the stylists here are not only hairdressers but are artists as well. I have had many people on the street compliment me on my hair and color. I highly recommend this salon. If you want great service, a pleasant experience, and fantastic hair go to Rare!
FRUSTRATED – I decided to go to Rare based on a recommendation of a friend whom came back looking beautiful I mean amazing really so I was super excited to get my fabulous cut and color. First I went for the cut and although it wasn't very inventive or exciting it was a good cut in that my hair looked healthy. The cut set me back bout 85 bucks so I made an appointment to get color because that's what really blew me away with my friend.
I had THE worst experience. 6 hrs into my appointment I had lowlights and highlights and a color gloss put in about 4 different times because the "color" wasn't right and by right I mean my hair kept coming out the same so much so that everyone that worked there kept checking and conversing on my hair with puzzled looks and suggestions. I had asked for my hair to be a chocolate brown color with facets of reds and other browns I specifically said no blond most stylists do blond and nothing else I wanted rare hair. I now had goldish lights...Unpleased with now having wasted 6hrs and having my hair fried to unbelievable measure I left for work and was told to come back for a "touch up" to make my hair "pop" aka make some sort of difference and this was only after they tried to convince me that it looked "nice" as is. My hair looked exactly the same! granted I do have thick curly dark brown hair this cost me about 300$ So I went back and the color did come out right the next time dark brown with red facets but I was surprised to see they charged me again another 100$!! now me being a non aggressive person I paid the money and since I was sort of happy at this point I figured what the hell why argue. I washed my hair with all the products they had given me to preserve my "reddish" hair which was about 100$ worth of product. In one wash my hair lost all the red and went back to the boring tarnishy gold color I was afraid I would get to begin with. Not 1 person has complimented my hair and I havent gone 2 a salon in 6 months cause I'm afraid to.
Best salon in manhattan – I have been going here for two years and I am convinced that this is the best salon in town. I regularly see one particular stylist but have had my hair cut by a number of other stylists there, including Ruth Roche, the owner. Each haircut was great and exactly what I asked for, but better. Highly recommended.
TERRIBLE – Aiko gave me a terrible haircut. She didn't listen to me. She didn't seem to be paying attention. She gave me a trim and charged me as if she had actually styled it. NOT RECOMMENDED. Overpriced.
