My friend referred me to Horbett Heating and Cooling about 24 years ago. I had a great experience on the first visit and every single visit since. I have used them for emergency service and I also had them install a new furnace and air conditioner for me about ten years ago. When I purchased the new units I found their pricing very fair and workmanship was outstanding. I was very impressed that the owner came out to inspect the job and make sure I was completely satisfied. I am writing this because my furnace stopped working this winter during one of the many storms we had. I was afraid that they may not be open, everything was closed and cancelled that day. It was very cold in my house and I was so nervous that my pipes would freeze. I called Horbett Heating and Cooling they promised they would make it over to help me
and they did. This company has never let me down. I highly recommend this company to all.
We had Horbett Heating and cooling install our furnace and a/c. Mr. Horbett was very
knowledgeable and advised us on the best system for our home. The installers were thorough and respectful of our home. I would recommend this company.
Horbett heating & cooling is the worst business I have ever encountered.In late spring of 2012 I was at the W Seneca Home Depot signed up for an estimate on an A/C unit to be installed ,gave name & number .a couple of weeks later an appointment was set up with Ken Horbett Sr came out gave me an estimate .swar that his company is not like the other guys.ITold him I would think about it he said that the price would be going up.I decided to wait to the following year.In November of 2012 my wall furnance was giving me problems so what better way to see how Horbatt was all about (better than the other guy) So I called I was told the service call would be $89.00 the service man came out cleaned the pilot and burner checked operation was told it'ok Ilooked at how it was burning and asked about the color of the fire at the burner did not look wright to me very orange the service man said that's normal.I thought your the expert OK.He charged me $182.70.Febuary 2013,82 days later the furnance stopped working .I was out of town at the time,I call Horbett to be told the service call would be $89.00 and they would need a authorization in the amount of up to $ 250.00 I had no other option but to agree.the service man showed up same guy looked at the furnance called me and said we can clean it or sell you a new furnance.Being in the position I was in out of town I was not happy with that they wanted to sell me a new furnance.So I called Horbett talked to Ken Jr he told me that he never said that to the service man.They must have talked before calling me.Jr said he would have the service man clean the heat exchanger,Their was no sign of any soot problem in nov 2012 ,82 day prior.I was billed this time 547.56 for a total of $730.26 Remember I only authorized up to $250.00. That in excess of 297.56 .This furnance is a basic as a 1963 Chevy bis cane with a 6 cylinder.an as pristine condition as a Barrett Jackson automobile . After I returned home after repeated phone calls to Horbett heating and cooling leaving messages never to be returned ,I made a trip to their place of business on Genesee St .To be told Ken Jr was not their to leave a phone number ,so I did left 5 mins later Jr called yelling at me that I gave his counter person a really hard time,(very untrue) Jr and I met their 25 minutes later He agreed to refund me 1/2 back but he would half to consult with his legal dept first .I received a letter in March 2013 saying if I sign it Horbett would refund money and by signing it would release all liabilities from Horbett and there would be no further service work to be done.This is a rental property I was not going to take on the liability if something was to happen.So you the people who reads this you be the judge.As for me the word is being said Horbett Heating $ Cooling is not the company of choice.And for the A/C I had it installed in spring of 2013 for a lot less $$$$$$'.
I have dealt with Horbett heating and cooling over the past 20+ years. I have found them to be consistently responsive, reliable, courteous and reasonably priced. I have referred Horbett to family and friends, knowing they will go out of their way to assure their satisfaction. Highly recommended!
New Furnace – Last Thanksgiving day, Our funace of 26 years decided to stop working. A call to Horbett's emergency number put me in touch with the most helpful people. The service tech was there within the hour. The furnace had heated it's last cubic foot of natural gas. The tech explained in great detail about the new Modulating Furnace's. The crew was at my home the first thing the next day,(the day most people dont have to work), and installed our new furnace. We were told the new furnace would save us money on our gas bill. WOW were they right!! Our home is more evenly heated, and my wife is thrilled about the gas bill. ( kinda hard to thrill the wife anymore!). All in all, the service was great, the furnace is great, dealing with Horbett Heating was a very positive experiance!!!
Very disappointed with follow up – I have lived in my mobile home for over 11 years. During this time, I have called Horbett Heating & Cooling a couple of times for service. Both times I have been pleased. Horbett, Jr. did advise, on one of these visits, that we should purchase a new furnace soon.
My husband and I decided to purchased a new furnace for our mobile home from Horbett. Horbett, Sr. came to our home for the estimate prior to the installation. On October 24, 2011, two young men installed the furnace along with a hard-wired carbon monoxide detector. Everything seemed fine at the time.
Later that day, the carbon monoxide detector went off. A service repairman, from Horbett, showed up a couple hours later.
The Horbett repairman immediately advised us that our hot water tank was illegal and that was the problem. The hot water tank sits right next to the furnace. He tried to show that when the furnace and hot water tank are running, the furnace draws out the gases/carbon monoxide from the hot water tank. He advised that it was a good thing they installed the detector. He tried saying that we probably had a carbon monoxide leak prior to the furnace installation. Funny thing, I never experienced any symptoms in the 11 years I've been living there.
What we were understanding from the repairman was that the new furnace was not compatible with our existing hot water tank. But, he said they could replace our hot water tank for $1,450.00. They could not replace the new furnace they installed. I was very upset...wouldn't Horbett Sr. and Jr. know that the two were not compatible. If so, why would they install it? These were questions my husband and I had. My husband told the repairman to have Horbett Sr. call him the next day.
During all this aggravation, the repairman checked the detector and it did not have a battery. Once he replaced the battery...no more beeping. Before he left, he made my husband sign a form where they would not be responsible for any Carbon Monoxide poisoning. He said if we hear the beeps again, to leave immediately. Well one week later...no beeps and still no call from Horbett Sr.
This weekend we stopped at Lowes and saw a mobile home hot water tanks on sale for under $500.00 plus their installation fee which is still much less than the $1,450.00 the repairman was quoting. Now I am second guessing the $2,800 we paid for the new furnace from Horbett. We should have checked Lowes and Home Depot prior.
Also...not sure if we ever really had a carbon monoxide leak. It may have just been the missing battery. Therefore, maybe the repairman could have handled things differently. My husband did buy another carbon monoxide detector. We are using both just to be on the safe side.
Exactly 1 week after our furnace was installed, it quit working. Four days later and it is still not fixed. We are told there is a part on order and Horbett, Sr. is tracking it as they speak. When we ask for the tracking number, we are told they don't have it. They say our furnace is too new and that they don't have replacement parts or another furnace they can take the part off of. We have repeatedly asked for Horbett, Sr. and have not heard from him. Funny thing...Horbett, Sr. had no problem coming to our home and giving us an estimate. But when there is an issue...he cannot be bothered. Is this a way to run a company? We will be contacting the Better Business Burea soon if we cannot get satisfaction.
Horbett Helps – My thanks to the guys at Horbett Heating and Cooling I have an older home where things were not done in a professional manner. in fact some of it was downright wrong. They were able to redo the my ductwork and keep my entire house warm. Thank You
My Favorite – I know calling a Heating Company my favorite sounds strange, but they are! I get anxiety when I have to call a repair company. I am always nervous about who to call. Well my friend referred me to this company and absolutely I love them. I have used them many times now. First for repair which they were fair with price, excellent with repair and fast with service. I love them so much I used them just recently to install a new Energy Efficient furnace and A/C. They installed some new Duct work to help me with some problem areas and I can not believe the difference! They really know what the are doing! This is my way of giving back to them and helping all those who do not know who to call....well now you do! Call Horbett Heating & Cooling.
Fast reliable and fair – I having been using Horbett Heating and cooling for almost twenty years and am very satisfied. Ken and his crew have worked on my home, my repair shop and my rental property and I always have been completely satisfied. They have even gone as far as installing a heater on my pool and have custom designed and built a stainless steel exhaust for my oil furnace at my repair shop, both things they do not specialize in but did an outstanding job at. So if you find yourself in the need of Heating or cooling, don't hesitate to call Horbett Heating and Cooling and tell them Russ sent you.
PROFESSIONAL,PROMPT, AND COURTEOUS – I had a furnace installed by Horbett heating in April. It was installed so professionally. Everything was hauled away and in no time the furnace was up and working properly and there wasn't anything left behind. They were there when they said they would be. They even moved the thermostat to a new location, to make better use of the heating. They were friendly and knowledgeable, and answered all and any questions that I had. They were prompt in sending the paperwork for the rebate. I would not hesitate to recommend Horbettt heating and cooling to my friends.
