a counter to the one posted below – i am sorry... but when should a barely english speaking staff at an authentic mexican restaurant warrant a complaint? that is such a typical west hartford review... if you want that -- go to taco bell.

Yikes, not good – At first glance the menu looks good and the waitstaff is friendly. But once the strange food arrives at the table, it is a flailing hand and foot exercise to let the non-English-speaking staff know that you haven't received remotely what was on the menu.

In our case, it was a plate of "fish tacos" said to come on soft tortilla with "marinated fish," cabbage, onions and a "white sauce." What arrived was dried out scraps of previously frozen white fish sprinkled heavily with hot paprika and salt in a soft tortilla with lettuce and tomato. No cabbage, no onions, no sauce. When I asked my waiter, he danced around telling me that it was indeed white fish because his English wasn't good enough to know I was asking about the missing white sauce. When I asked him to get a menu so I could show him, he got one and told me that white sauce means sour cream. Let me say this was the blandest, most unappetizing plate of food I have ever paid 14 dollars for in my life.

The other diners at my table also received meat covered in lettuce and tomato with a soupy mess of pureed (no way refried) beans with cheese melted all over them. This is really the most pedestrian swill I've encountered, in fact McDonald's is a culinary delight in comparison. And there, they speak English or don't pretend that they don't. Our handsome waiter called us Amigos as we left, a ridiculous and phony end to a crappy experience.

Blackberry Margaritas – Been here more times that I care to admit... but I have zero complaints. The wait staff is wonderful (aside from one girl, though I think the time she forgot my fajitas was because she was new), the food is delicious, and the margaritas are awwwesome. The main male waiter is the guy you want. He makes the best blackberry margaritas I've ever had (or ever heard of) and puts an extra tequila shot in the glasses as well (upon request), free of charge. The chips and salsa are fresh and wonderful and the back patio is great as well. Overall, nothing beats this place -- best place to eat in all of West Hartford. The Newington location is great too, though it's always pretty crowded (which isn't a bad sign). Go, you won't be sorry...

Avoid at all costs if you like margarita's! – I would never recommend this restaurant, Returned last Friday night to give this place another chance, but to no avail. We actually ended up not eating, just had a drink. Both times we have sat at the bar, and they have no bartender! Every server is their own bartender, and they all kept coming behind the bar to make their drinks, but no-one acknowlwdged us. We got up and went to the host stand to get a table instead. Sat at a table in the bar, and the waitress was having a hard time keeping up with her tables as she had to make her own drinks. What dissapointed us the most was no-body seemed to know how to make a margarira! Every server was reading the table tent on the bar for the ingredients in the drink. Craving a margarita, opted for a glass of wine instead, much safer, yet my husband was still given the wrong beer!! We can walk here, but now drive out to Avon instead when we want Mexican food.

great mexican – Im new in town, and I must say weve been to this place twice. the chips are fresh and plentiful. The service is prompt and curteous. Order a house specialty... the carne azada is wonderful! very little waiting is also a plus.

Just OK – Fun atmosphere and great bartenders! However, the food leaves much to be desired. Don't expect authentic Mexican fare, but if Tex-Mex is what you're craving then most items on the menu will not disappoint (beware of the soggy and overly spiced pork tacos).
