I've been seeing Carl for over two years. I absolutely love him. The review about him being more sympathetic to the male perspective sounds completely off to me, as I've always found him to be fair, judicious and WITHOUT gender bias. Perhaps her husband is lying to her and stating Carl said it to give it more credence? I don't know, but I refuse to believe he would ever say such a thing. He has, in my experience, actually been surprisingly knowledgeable and understanding about women's health and issues. He is incredibly supportive, comforting, and helpful, and has MANY times agreed with me that many men are just idiots. I always VERY highly recommend him to any one I know who is looking for a therapist. He has helped me tremendously with major depression and anxiety, and has helped my friend's child with divorce/custody issues with the father, and my other friend with depression and stress management (told you I recommend him a lot!). He is a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, and he really helps you to learn to decipher situations and come to conclusions yourself instead of just telling you what you "need" to do.
LEADS you to figuring out, without judgement or lecturing – After seeing a few therapist w my man and not finding any that were mutually a good fit (especially his!), i did some research on finding a new one. Saw the review that said Carl was "for men only" and figured my man couldn't find fault with that! I didn't expect him to really move ME to change (as am perfect, and MY MAN was obviously the problem...) or provide us both (we now see him together and separately) with actual tools, useful exercises, and resounding sound bites ("ask yourself, 'would you rather be right, or would you rather be happy'" is one the best to ask ourselves AND EACH OTHER!). A year later I find myself leaning less on him and more on the tools that are now ingrained in me since he lead me to learn them on my own rather than fed me to me like fast food. He is the Bern's of therapy in a world of the Sam Seltzer's norm.
great therapist! – Carl is a great therapist - gives direct and honest feedback, optimistic, and I always leave his office feeling strong and clear. Having no experience with therapy and a bit apprehensive prior to going, I found Carl to be very authentic and was immediately comfortable. I've recommended him to a friend who also left her current therapist of 2 years to work with Carl after having a positive experience.
`I would challenge the previous review stating that he favored the male perspective. My boyfriend found Carl online and recommended him as a therapist we should see for our relationship struggles. I was worried when I saw this review, but went anyway. Carl was fair, listened to both our situatons and didn't play any sides.
I would highly recommend, especially if you are new to therapy.
Therapy FOR MEN ONLY – His subtitle, underneath the word "psychotherapist", should read: for men only. CF has plenty of empathy for other males and very limited understanding of, or empathy toward, females. He told my husband that I should be "taking care of his needs" and that menopause and painful intercourse were just excuses on my part. In CF's world, the male's sexuality is of paramount importance and whatever the female is experiencing is secondary. I do feel a little sorry for his wife.
Great DR – He has really helped me. I would really recommend him. He is very nonjudgemental and he really cares.
