Great Place to Shop! – To ZanderALA: you seem to be a big cry baby. If you think that's rude customer service, you obviously don't get out much.
In regards to Patel Brothers, I have an excellent time every time I go there and I am a regular visitor. It has nothing to do with being Indian or American (I am American). In fact, most of the rudeness I encounter is in AMERICAN-based stores. The owners of Patel Brothers are friendly, helpful, and very understanding. I tried out a few new Indian snacks, and out of the 3 I bought, one of the items was too spicy. They allowed me to return it and get something else in exchange even though I had already OPENED the bag. Who else will let you do something like that??
Once again, for the people who say its a rude place, you need to leave your house more often and experience more of the outside world.
Customer Service in the US? Are you kidding?! – To ZanderALA: Sorry for your bad experience. It was really disrespectful.
I think the ?Customer Service? culture doesn't exist in the US at all! Americans should learn a lot from Japanese how to treat and respect customers and almost never make mistakes. A customer, in Japan, is god and is actually considered as the owner of the business because they know that without us they won?t be able to make money. In the US all they do as the ?Customer Service? is to say: Hi, How are you doing today?!?but nobody at the customer service is responsible for their bad behavior and the infinite mistakes they make. They never get any sort of punishment for their mistakes. You as the customer, then, have to spend time and energy to correct their mistakes. The Indian store is a part of the ?US customer service? culture. The Culture!
I shopped there two times. I was not upset if they didn?t greet me with a fake big smile saying ?Hi, how are you doing today?. I was actually happy since they didn?t make any mistakes in my items and charging my account. By the way I'm not Indian nor Japanese.
New Heights of Rude – Well, I definitely do not recommend going here unless you want to be mistreated in jaw droppingly, innovative, rude ways.
My first "great" experience with this place was about a year ago when an older Indian lady was manning the cash register and the new $20 bills had just come out. I remarked to her about their new appearance. Her reaction, though I had been patronizing their little shop for many years before that, was to question as to whether or not it was a "real" bill. She conferred with a customer in their language and he assured her that it was indeed real money. I could have "really" done without that. What made that customer an "expert" in currency and me not one? The fact that I am not Hindustani? That I am an American? Hmmm
It took me a year to recover from that one. I thought I would give them a second chance yesterday. I got my items and waited patiently by the counter. While I was waiting, anouther customer came up. Then the cashier came up. The cashier began immediately to help the customer that had come to the counter long after I had. But, hey, anyone can make a mistake. "Excuse me", I said, "but I was here first". Oh, just a minute, the cashier remarked, as she proceeded to ring up the entire order for the "line jumper". I could not believe that this was happening. I put my purchases down and said, "You know, this is really wrong. I was here first." The cashier gave me a blank stare and the customer also. I just left.
I won't be back.
