Leon Medical Center is a joke and does not deserve 5 stars. My father is dying because of their negligence. If you care at all about your family you will keep them away from that horrible clinic. They make their money by having many old healthy members join they clinic. However, once the elderly begins to get sick they are neglected. The end results are that they will let the elderly die. The sad part is is that they have the license to get away with it. My father had skin cancer for years and Leon only sent him to a dermertologist instead of an oncolgist. Well, his cancer has now metasizied and he has had to fight for his chemotherapy. His oncologist that was assign to his case by Leon has never even thought of referring him to an oncologist who specializes in Melonma cancer. I'm now trying to find him a new oncologist and I am hoping that it's not to late. Leon should be shut down!!! I'm sure that there are many stories similar to mine. I am going Ito do my best to sue them!!!

It is such a crime that this Leon Medical Center can get away with allowing healthy folks get super ill and have no conscience about it. My dad is sliwly dying a painful death due to the huge mistakes and neglect of this place. I would like to reach out to all who have gone through what me and my family are now going through. This place needs to be exposed and shut down.

If you care about your family member... – If you care about how your family member is treated, don't take them to Leon. A family member was recently diagnosed with cancer after 2 years of complaints about her pain. She was given drug after drug, but never was given any sort of diagnostic tests. She couldn't keep track of the drugs they gave her and she only got worse. Her sister finally insisted on diagnostic tests and they found the cancer.

She had surgery and luckily (according to Leon), they were able to get all the cancer. Her sister was appalled by the conditions of Palm Springs General Hospital in Hialeah. She paid for a single room. In the three days my family member was there, no one ever changed her sheets. There were no bathing facilities available. The nurses sent to her room were unable to communicate with her, claiming they didn't understand her English.

Now, a week and a half later, she is in horrible pain. She wants to see her doctor tomorrow. I called Leon and explained the situation. I was told to have her come in first thing in the morning through their emergency department. I know what this means as we've done it before. It means my family member and her sister will sit in a waiting room all day and then maybe they'll see a doctor. I explained to the customer service rep that her suggestion was unacceptable, and she needed to find an appointment. This is a woman who just had surgery! The CSR claimed she didn't have access to the doctor's calendar to make the appointment. I expressed my doubts about that. Then, the CSR said to me that my family member had an appointment in December, and that she could move it up a week. Maybe.

As I tried to explain that this was unacceptable treatment towards someone who just had major surgery, the CSR dropped the call. I can't imagine it was an accident.

This Medicare HMO is horrific and I wish I had the money to get my aunt the treatment she deserves. It kills me that although Leon is getting paid by Medicare and they are billing Medicare for drugs she never used, she still isn't getting quality healthcare.

If anyone knows of a quality Medicare HMO, please let me know. I'd get her out of Leon in a heartbeat.

Mass Medicare Racket – This place is a mass medicare racket sweat shop. It might look attractive by the brand new, ever clean facilities, the bocaditos, pastelitos, and the free transportation, but in the end, the medical services are subpar. Most of the doctors who work for them are low end recent graduates or mediocre ones who for some reason can't get a better job somewhere else. Their hospital agreements are with about the worst hospitals in the county.

They cleverly target the poorly informed elderly spanish speaking population in Miami-Dade, who easily fall for the attractive perks mentioned above.

Why would you want to go to a place like this having Medicare, if with that you have access to the best medical care available, like for example, the nationally ranked Jackson Memorial/UM Health system?

In addition to all this, once you become their patient, they automatically put you under their crappy Health Insurance Plan. Again, why would you want to do that with all the much better options out there? So that all of us taxpayers get to pay for Mr. Leon's jet-set lifestyle? Seems that with the multi-million dollar mansions he has bought for himself and his family, he can hardly afford to provide decent medical services.

The Ritz Carlton of Medicine – Every time I have the opportunity to talk about Leon Medical Centers, I always say that it is the best of the best. Many of my friends have become members because I tell them how wonderful and special the employees are and they always thank me for the recommendation.

Everyone always greets me with a smile and that is the same treatment I receive when they call me on the phone; I have only experienced this at institutions such as the Ritz. For us seniors, it is a place where WE matter and our needs are met.

I can only be so thankful to have a place where all my medical issues are addressed while socializing and interacting with others of my same age.

Thank you to Leon Medical Centers for saving my life and that of others. I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

Overmedicating patients to DEFRAUD Medicare – Don't be fooled by los pastelitos y los bocaditos, this place is run by truly malicious, money-hungry "Doctors" who sole purpose is to dispense as much medication as they possibly can and schedule as many unnecessary appointments (they will PICK YOU UP to CUT YOUR TOENAILS) all so that they may bill Medicare. There is no concern for the patients' health and well-being.

Dr. Rigoberto Rodriguez, their resident Psychiatrist, is a criminal with no conscience who has had my mother in a drug-induced stupor for years. When I met with him last year to discuss reducing her medication I was met with arrogance and disdain. By May of this year he had her taking so much medication, she was completely addicted and was barely able to function. His incompetence finally led her to have extreme side effects and she was rushed to the ER at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The Doctors at Jackson were horrified at the amount of medication, promptly set her on a detox plan.

While detoxing under the supervision of her general practioner at Leon Medical, Dr. Caraballo-Burgos, I became concerned about her increasing withdrawals and her change in demeanor and ordered that no medication be delivered or given to her personally and I was to be alerted about all appointments.

On July 28, 2010, without my consent, she was picked up and taken to see Dr. Rodriguez so that he could give her a referral for a therapist. Instead, this licensed drug dealer told her that there was no therapy in the world that could help with her anxiety and promptly gave her a bottle of 30 anti-depressants and a 90 qty. bottle of anti-anxiety medication.

On August 9, my mother attempted to end her life by taking 46 of those pills. Luckily, she survived and is now at a inpatient rehabilitation facility, which we have had to pay for out of pocket because her Medicare is stuck at Leon and they offer absolutely no form of emergency mental health and rehab assistance.

This organization needs to be exposed for what they are. CRIMINALS

Never Use This Facility, Save Your Relatives From It – I gave this hell-hole one star because I was not allowed to publish this review without at least the one star rating. My Mother chose this Clinic because she did not want to bother us with driving her to the doctor's office. They pick her up. Terrifyingly, these people have no heart and commit what looks like criminal negligence against their most needy patients. If you or your loved one are or may become truly ill, pray you do not have Leon as your medical provider. I was told last year by a treating Orthopedic at Leon that he had no time to look at my Mom's chart, despite the fact he was treating her, so naturally he did not know her actual condition. She refused to leave the Clinic however, because she did not want to be a bother to us - which she never has been. The Doctors are all underpaid, overworked and so several my Mom has had are sloppy, careless and plain inhumane. This place is not goal oriented at properly caring for a patient. It is purely financially driven and if that means necessary tests and treatment are not conducted, this institution is fine with that plan. My Mother recently had a massive stroke. As repeatedly stated by my Mother’s Leon-assigned Pulmonologist, Leon pressured him to have her discharged from the treating hospital and then pressured him to have her discharged from the acute care facility (she is on a ventilator and in semi-coma) into a nursing home. It is now objectively clear that my Mother was discharged from the hospital while she was fighting serious infections and also that while she was at the acute care, her Leon-provided physicians choose not to treat the infections at all, despite the fact that her lab cultures showed the infections existed, simply so that she could be carted off to a nursing home ASAP. Leon simply does not want to pay for real medical care and attention when the patient really needs it. Also, it is very difficult to find well-recommended Doctors who are willing to take a patient if Leon is the payor (when you go to Leon, you turn over to Leon your rights to medicare/medicaid and Leon is supposed to cover the expenses which those other programs would have covered -- GOOD LUCK).

Prescribing Too Much Medicines – For the past year my sister and I are very concern with our Mother so frequently visiting Leon Medical. It seems that Leon Medical has a common practice cold calling these patients so they can constantly visit their doctors. We have both made a very serious observation with the amount of medicines that our Mother has been pescribed within a period of 14 months. She has taken over 18 different types of meds, including a memory prevention medecine without the proper evaluation from a neuroligist. Our parents love this place but unfortunately they are at a time in life that understanding something is wrong here is just not possible. Our objective is to monitored what meds they are prescribed and consult with other doctors that are not related to this organization. We decided to let everyone evaluating Leon or reading these remarks be aware. We have other family memebers that have also experienced remarkable and similar problems. Monitored your family from this wonderful and such service oriented facility. This administration has created a perception beyong the Medical Care in the United States.

A bad joke on the elderly – I went to this site in hopes of finding someone to contact about my mother. Since I haven't found one yet I decided to write my own review. First I will say, God help any American who happens into this place - my prayers are with you. This place looks very nice on the outside but that is a just a mask covering what really goes on in this place. They have so called Doctors who are hired by this Co. who barely passed their finals or have taken the exam multiple times. In other words these are D - Doctors. What burns me most is these elderly patients who go there are in no shape to come back multiple times for days on end. They should access & complete the reason for the visit in one visit instead of day after day after day of trips back to the center for something that should & could be taken care of in one visit. This place certainly looks to be a huge con & money pit for the sate of Florida & the U.S.A.

Good choice but relatives of elderly members need to stay informed – Both of my parents are members of Leon. I've been more satisfied with the services of Leon (27th Avenue) than I thought I would be with an HMO. Mom had kidney cancer 7 years ago. Her surgery at Mercy to remove one kidney went well. I checked the doctor online and he had good credentials. Dad had a triple heart bypass about 4 years ago. We were satisfied with all the doctors who saw him and he recovered very well and very quickly. Mom has macular degeneration and has been getting a series of injections in her eyes. Recently one of her eyes was damaged by the injection, a possible side-effect they warn you about. The optamologist working with Leon immediately referred her to Bascom Palmer where she had cataract and retina surgery. Leon approved all the financial paperwork right away. Leon has buses which pick up patients for appointments and take them to facilities all over the county. I cannot always drive or accompany my parents to their appointments so I appreciate this service. Leon staff call to remind patients about appointments. They call to find out if you were satisfied with your last visit. At their clinics they have tons of staff on the floor helping elderly patients go to their appointments or go from floor to floor. They are VERY patient with the elderly. They have staff who deliver prescriptions to people's homes - even on Saturday. If you have questions, their administrators tend to get back to you quickly to try to resolve any issues. At their facility on 27th Avenue they serve pastelitos and Cuban coffee which the elderly love. They are VERY busy and there is an assembly-line feel to the care at their facilities with the elderly being moved from room to room and hurried through appointments but this is true of most health care places these days except for the most expensive. I would recommend it to families for their elderly relatives cautioning them to keep informed about the appointments and prescriptions.
