Monica is Really Excellent – My friend referred me to a stylist at Fada - when I couldn't get in quickly enough to see him (he was on vacation), I read the internet reviews of Fada and saw that Monica had excellent reviews, so I made an appointment with her. I had high hopes for this appointment because I had read that this was a fairly pricey salon and, having had my last haircut done somewhere else 6 months ago on the cheap (a huge mistake), I figured there must be something to that adage about "you get what you pay for." Fortunately, I was not disappointed - Monica listened to what I had to say, asked the right questions and had great ideas of her own (based on my input) about how to clean up the mess that was my hair. She gave me the perfect haircut for me and also showed me how I could style it myself if I ever wanted to get fancy (I am generally hopeless when it comes to styling my own hair, but I actually think I will be able to follow her simple instructions). She's great - and French! (J'aime la France!) I will always go back to her now.
Owner NEEDS a business class – It was unfortunate that my haircut experience ended with the owner. After a 20minute wait for my stylist, she delivered a pretty good cut. The salon atmosphere was pleasant, very clean and the staff professional.
However, upon checkout, I wanted to make a follow up appointment with the stylist. Instead of offering an appointment, the owner informed me I would have to pay an additional amount with my Groupon. I balked because I had informed the receptionist that I had a Groupon when making appointment. She insisted that I pay the additional $5. Rather than have her take it out of the employee's tip, I paid the additional amount. I was appalled that she would reduce the employee's tip to cover the $5.
I left without making a follow-up appointment. The owner's short-sightedness cost her a future customer.
I was very impressed when I walked in. I actually arrived very early (at 1215 for my 1 oclock appt) but I stopped in to tell them I was there. They told me there were running slightly late because they had to squeeze someone in for color, but I was welcome to wait. I left and came back at 1. At 1:20 I was told that the stylists assistant would be coming for me any moment. At 1:30 I told the receptionist that I was concerned because I had a wedding to go to after and they were already 30 minutes late. She rushed around to figure something out. She found another stylist that could take me right away (this was very nice... they could have kept me waiting).
The haircut is ok... not what i asked for. I didn't like the stylist's attitude about the fact that I was there using a "Groupon." Almost like I wasn't a "real" customer? Isn't the idea of a groupon to get new clients into your establishment so they hopefully come back?
What really upset me about the situation was this: the stylist, the owner, and the receptionist made a point that they were so glad they could accommodate me. I wish I would have been brave enough to say that actually they didn't accommodate me - they accommodated the person that they squeezed in that ended up taking my appt. I called a couple weeks ahead, made an appt, and showed up on time. I shouldn't have to be thankful that they can "accommodate" me by actually giving me the service that I made an appt for.
All in all, I've had better service and haircuts many other places. Won't go back
Portland's best hair stylist...look no further – I have found my hair cutting Goddess and her name is Monica. For years I went to the $15 buck chop-shops because I am a cheapo. But after having a real, quality cut, I will never do that to my hair again. What was I thinking???? I am planning a move out of Oregon and you know what? I will always come back to Fada to have Monica cut my hair. She is amazing! I had my colour done there once too and was really pleased with how they transformed my wreck of a colour job into a really beautiful, natural look. It is not overly expensive, but it is not cheap either. But treat yourself. All the staff at Fada are always welcoming, warm and professional. Monica's cuts are designed to to be long lasting. I am a convert. Monica has been doing my hair now for about 3 years and she is simply brilliant. Thank you Monica!
Let Monica Help Create Your New Look – I went to Monica at Fada based on the recommendation of two friends who had transforming haircuts by Monica. I am a working mom who bikes and loves a low maintenance cut. Thanks to Monica, I went from my usual boring bob to a fun, edgy look that is still easy to care for (and works with a bike helmet). I highly recommend her if you need someone else with vision and you aren't afraid of a completely new cut.
Change of hair life – Fada Salon has changed my hair life. I am a 53 year old realtor. My hair is naturally curly and I have always just left it alone. Wash, shake, scrunch and I’m good to go. I started coloring to get rid of the gray around 10 years ago. I have tried to match my natural color and as life tends to move fast, have not given much thought to who or how I color, just how often. My choice of salons had only to do with being close to home. The products used were not a concern at first. Then my hair started to suffer. Frizzy and dry, my hair was bleached out on the ends. I was not happy. My sister had been going to Danielle at Fada for her hair and shortly after she started, she treated me to a visit. I could not believe how pampered I felt. My hair was completely different after Danielle was finished with me. It felt thicker, was curling perfectly and was an even color, worlds apart from what I had been settling for. I love what she does each time I go in. She started me on the Bumble and Bumble product line for damaged hair and that makes all the difference between visits. Fada is the perfect match for me and Danielle is the best! I would recommend Fada as a great match for anyone looking to restore health and beauty to their hair.
PAUL R. is AWESOME – I have been getting my hair cut by Paul for 6 years and he never disappoints. I usually give a general description of what I want and it always turns out great. He uses the razor on my pin-straight Asian hair and it looks awesome every time.
Monica She is the Best!!! – I received the most amazing hair cut from Monica. This sophisticated European girl is not just a hair stylist but a truly amazing hair artist. I have learned that she used to live in Paris and she learned her skills working at high-end hair salon in Paris for several years. Monica is so down-to-earth, polite and attentive and each time I see her, I genuinely felt that she cared about me. She really made me feel special. I truly believe that she is one of the few stylists out there that can just look at you and knows exactly what style looks good on you. She will listen to how you want your hair done but if you really want a fantastic work done on your hair, don’t be afraid, let her do her work and prepare to be surprised!!!
NYC girl gives review: Great cut, great vibe!! – Love this salon. Love the staff. Repeat: LOVE THE STAFF! Sheila Rae at the front desk; awesome, knowledgeable, never loses her cool. Knows who I am the moment I walk in the door. Thank you, Sheila Rae for this. It's the first impression that gets me every time, and she got me, hook line and sinker.
All of the assistants are considerate, talented, hardworking, and they too remember who I am when I walk through the door. Man they are good!
So, I was referred to Paul by a co-worker who knows how particular I am about my hair (as most of you reading this are). I have long, thick hair, and like to keep it that way. I am not into having a hairdresser talk me into cutting my length off "just because" (you long haired girls know what I am talking about!).
I moved to Portland a year ago from NYC, and honestly was nervous about finding a good hairdresser. However, upon meeting Paul my nerves were immediately put at ease. Not only did he listen to me, and suggest the right cut for my face and frame, he is extremely talented at his craft. He consistently gives me a great cut, including most recently my newly added bangs (which I LOVE)!! Note: complimentary
Paul is thorough and efficient. And did I mention how cool he is? You can definitely anticipate a great conversation while in his chair. I actually find myself wishing I could stay and hang out after my haircut!
If you're in search of a new salon, go to Fada, and ask to see Paul!! You will not be disappointed!
Fantastic Hairstylists – I saw Fada's beautiful hair styling work at a charity event, the stylists donated their time and skills to a Dress for Success fashion show (and also donated products and a gift certificate as door prizes). I got a card and then made an appointment and saw Monica. Monica knew more about my hair than I did, instantaneously! I was getting several inches cut off, to donate, and Monica was familiar with the process and had done hair donations before. Monica then took time to study my face and came up with a terrific hair style, easy to wash and go or do up pretty, and one that would look good as my hair grows out again. I was thrilled with the result, and now several weeks later am still thrilled with the result. Monica was terrific, and I will be going back to her for sure. I'm sure all the stylists are terrific because I saw their work at the charity event.
