Good, Not Great. – I'd give it 3 1/2 if I could. It's an older place, with some well-meant attempts at charm. It's a little dated, but it's also a testament to their long history. Margaritas seem to be popular there, but I ordered some other tequila drink off their menu, and was glad I did. It came in a pint glass, and it gave me all the buzz I needed for the night. I was planning on having a couple-three drinks, but one did the trick. I'm not a huge fan of their salsa, but they'll bring you as much as you want of it. The food was very generous, but unspectacular. It was a huge plate, with plenty of rice, and beans, and everything was slathered with sauce and cheese. I didn't go home hungry, but I'd have to be pretty hungry to go back.
Fransisco is Family – They opened the month after I was born, so I can HONESTLY say I have been eating there all my life. We used to live down the street, and my parents would strap me into the stroller and over we went for dinner. I always insisted on having the chicken soft taco.
Even after we moved across town we continued to make our trips to El Ranchitos (this time via car). Eventually, I grew up, my parents moved to Washington, and we STILL come here to get our favorite meals. At some point, I graduated to the deluxe chicken burrito (no skimping on the chicken, oh-so-moist, and no rice 'filler' to make the burrito look bigger) and have never looked back.
I introduced my boyfriend, now my husband, and he enjoys exploring the menu-- he keeps pestering me to try something new, but I just smile and get my deluxe burrito, because I know what I like and I'm sticking with it!
The best part is Fransisco always recognizes us and remembers us. In a couple years, he'll get to remember a third generation of chicken burrito lovers.
Average – First impression of the restaurant in Gresham is uneasiness. The building is old and no other customers were there. The man who greeted me was loud and never smiled. Although he wasn't rude, it felt as though his "niceness" was forced. I made a simple order for a classic style chicken burrito, which cost $10.95. I assumed for that price, it came with all the trimmings, but no. He asked me if I wanted a side of rice and beans for $3.99, which I declined. The taste of the food was slightly above average, but I attributed this to the excess of cheese (cheese lover) and the great tasting enchilada sauce. Overall, the burrito was good but overpriced. I think I'll keep looking for the ideal Mexican restaurant.
Mexican Authentico, family dining Mexican Style, the best service anywhere. The greatest Mexican food in NE Portland. – El Ranchito's on NE Stark in Portland-not Lake Oswego- is your best bet for a large proportioned meal, in a very friendly, . family owned restaurant. The Owner/Manager Francisco has been in that location for more than 26 years. You don't stay in business that long without knowing how to please your customers. And he does. He remembers your name and what you like, and even the table you sat at the last time you were there.
We are cheese lovers! No shorting on that. All the food is authentic, and prepared by cooks of the various regions the food represents. Service is speedy and friendly. No phonies here.
The Margaritas are huge, the food is fab. Go see Francisco for a Mexican meal you'll not soon forget.
Best Salsa Around – Been going here for years and hasnt changed a bit wich is great thing! Staff is friendly and visit enough they will remember your order. Chips and salsa whilr you wait that is to die for. Great Value, Great drinks. The best there is in Mexican dining.
Zhousu – I love their beef taco's. There Spanish rice, and Chili Reano's, are also super. The help are all Mexican, a good sign, and they like you to exercise your Spanish. Whatever you order, you can have it "Hot", "Medium", or "Mild". I like having that choice.
Good Service Bad Food – We went because it was close by and always seems busy. The service and atmosphere was good. Too bad the food sucks. This is about as bad as watered down Mexican-American food gets. Everthing was blah, dry or was so burried in cheese that it is hard to tell what you are eating. On top of all that, it is over-priced probably because its in Lake Oswego. Also, for those of you who have peanut allergies, watch out for the enchalada sauce which has peanut butter in it. Who knew?
Yummy Mexican – My favorite Mexican restaurant around Portland. Huge drinks and great bean/beef burritos. The staff is very nice and the food is brought out super quickly. Plus they sing on your birthday....join the huge list of pics!
