It's ok. – Cheap bar food. Cheap to you because the freezer bags of it are cheap to them. Dinner not too bad. Expensive not because it is super pricey, but in reference to it's 'quality.' Good enough atmosphere, so your long wait for service isn't too unpleasant. Whatever. There are certainly worse places in Medford (though several much better).
Terrific Food and Atmosphere, Terrible Service. – I have been a "Summertime Regular" for about 4 yrs., and I must say that the ambiance and character of Porters is amazing. The back patio, with its strategically placed Adirondack patio furniture, greenery and heat lamps are a perfect setting for after-work cocktails into the cool Rogue Valley evenings with family, friends and peers. The food is excellent, with creative specials that change daily along with the tried-and-true everyday menu fare. The Rogue Valley Salad is a wonderful start to a meal, featuring blue cheese, Oregon pears and toasted hazelnuts. The wine list features award-winning wines from some of the most highly regarded Oregon wineries to compliment any meal.
I must say, however, that the service at Porters has become extremely disappointing, slow and unfriendly. Recently I waited 15-20 minutes after being seated to have my drink order taken, without an apology for wait time. The bar waitstaff has become seemingly discriminatory against the younger crowd or perhaps takes personal judgment to the workplace, which reflects poorly upon the business and is absolutely unacceptable. It is sort of a joke among many locals that Porters has been voted Mail Tribune's 'Readers Choice' for Best Waitstaff, and that their long-time bar manager was voted 'Friendliest Bartender' in the Medford Sneak Preview. Porters is the only full-service restaurant of it's class in Medford, and I see it as comparing a Lexus with a Toyota. It's the same thing but one is dressed nicer, therefore it tends to get the more favorable vote.
Porters is a good place for the ambiance, great food and cocktails as long as you are willing to sacrifice service. You may, however, get lucky and find yourself seated in a section with a new waitperson who has not yet been influenced by the arrogance of the Porters waitstaff.
I gave Porters a below-average rating because regardless of how great the food and atmosphere may be, terrible service can certainly ruin your dining experience.
Nice place for Medford, Good Drinks. Nice atmosphere and a historic feel. Try the grey goose and vodka or 5.
Best steak I've had in years! – We, ( a party of 4), were seated promptlyand courteously and offered dinner suggestions and specials. Though prices struck me as a little excessive, they seem to be in line with other places of this type. We agreed that the food was uniformly excellent. We'd go back.
Good, but not great – The ambiance is one of the best in Medford yet the food is only average for a restaurant that bills itself as one of the top restaurants in the area. I did not experience the kind of customer service that other reviewers did but making reservations on a Friday night definitely helped. I would have to say that we got B- food for A prices.
Good but not great – Food is above average but service is well below average. Staff seems to be more interested in their own personal issues that customer service.
hit amd miss – The food I crave. However the service is on again off again. I have had dinner and drinks take up to 3 hours and not by choice. And have not always been treated so polite. But I always seem to go back for more.
fargo – I've had many great dining experiences and Porters ranks right at the top. Wonderful menu and daily specials, fantastic atmosphere and world class service. The building is a must see. A refurbished 1910 train station! It also has a hugh, vine shaded patio and the beautiful bar is always hoppin'.
Fantastic! – Food! Great service outrageous ambiance! Highly recomended! The lounge was just fabulous and we usually don't drink! The decorating was completely gnarly!
