I arrived at the Benihanas in Beaverton just as they were opening for dinner. It pays to call in ahead to make reservations atleast a few days before you head this way. It is well worth it to plan this head for the staff and cooks treat you like honored guests in their home. The server had no trouble substituting, due to my seafood allergy, an excellent choice in place of my shrimp. Then the show began! The stage chef Sergio had a great attitude and kept the entire table smiling. I ordered the Rocky's Choice: steak mid-rare and spicy chicken with grilled zucchini and mushrooms. Everything was cooked to perfection and my glass was never empty. I could not have asked for a better dining experience and would recommend this restaurant not only for families, but also a great place to take someone special to make their night!
Great place to go for Birthday's and groups of people. It's a ton of fun and the food is amazing. Everyone in there is having fun so don't bring your quiet voice. All Japanese food from here is so good, I can't pick just one. I usually will get filet/steak and Shrimp. The drinks are so good but be careful they have a bite to them and make sure you aren't driving! I've been to many of these types of places around the country and still when it comes to where do I want to go? I will usually be craving Benihana's. What more is there to say? It's just a great place to go! Most would agree!
Great Resaurant – This restaurant is my favorite of all time. Their dishes are absolutely delicious. I personally like their filet Mignon and shrimp. This place is a little pricy, but you get what you pay for in my opinion. You can get cheaper other places but it sure wont be as tasty! And all the meals include onion soup, salad, and a shrimp appetizer. Also, in my opinion the regular smaller shrimp (that you get for an appetizer) are much tastier than the jumbo prawns that come with meals. So if you want the smaller shrimp with your meal, order like the hibatchi steak and a side of shrimp scampi <- the side will be the smaller shrimp! Also, the sushi here is very tasty, but I wouldn't come here just for the sushi bar, its a not quite worth the price. But if you come for a dinner and get a sushi appetizer its just great!
Sushi at the hibachi house... – Had dinner here tonight with a friend. We opted for the all you can eat sushi which is available Monday through Thursday for around $26. This includes a salad and soup. We both had miso soup and the salad with ginger dressing. These were fine but not exceptional. I had a crispy shrimp roll which tasted good but the tempura shrimp was soggy (when you got to the ends where the shrimp sticks out).
I also had some nigiri including albacore, yellow tail, eel, and salmon. I liked the albacore. Salmon was buttery. The eel was better than I've had recently at the runway sushi houses. My friend liked the squid and tilapia but didn't like the salmon roe or shrimp nigiri.
The staff was pleasant but the sushi bar area is plain and the sushi is the same. Oh yeah, we also shared a bottle of warm sake for about $9. This was so-so as well.
Great Sushi – We stopped for Sushi last night and the food & service were great. There was quite the wait for the other side of the restaurant with the Hibachi style dining. Everyone on the sushi side of the restaurant had big platters of food and seemed to be quite happy.
They even put up with our substitutions in some of the rolls, as we aren't big fans of crab. Food was fantastic. Service was great. Decent selection of cold sakes as well. I can't review the Hibachi side, but we will be returning for sushi again there soon.
Great show – As many have already know, Benihana and perhaps other Hibachi/Teppan place offer a "show" at the table--the chef demonstrating his skills with the ingredients utensils. The show was great for a first-time, however, the tricks may repeat itself afterward.
As for the food, my boyfriend ordered the dinner's portion Filet Mignon. I don't usually eat steak med-rare but the Filet Mignon was perfectly done. It melts in my mouth. I would go there again, however, the dinner Filet Mignon is quite spendy for my wallet...
An event as much as it is a great meal – If you don't know already, Benihana's puts on a fantastic dining experience. Sure, the chef's performances follow a repeatable routine, but then so do waiters and waitresses at most other restaurants. The staff is friendly and very willing to please. The chef's are truly a job to watch. The food is excellent - exceptionally fresh and well prepared. Yes, it is expensive. Don't go here and then belly ache that it cost you 25% more that Stanfords. It is a quality restaurant and dining experience.
If you feel like you miss Disneyland, go. – We went to Benihana for my son's birthday. We've been to many other Hibachi style restaurants over the years, and enjoyed them. Other than the fact that it was loud and packed, the waits were long, and the service was slow, I give this a one-star rating because the food was basically tasteless.
Most Hibachi style places serve flavorful food. Here, it was all about the "entertainment", which in our case was done by a Caucasian man wielding a knife. I found everything to be bland. The scallops, for which a premium price is charged, were frozen when they were put on the grill, and tasted "off". even before one realized they were overcooked. The filet wasn't bad, but the sauces were extremely bland.
Not great value for the buck. But if someone has never had the experience of having the whole hibachi thing cooked at one's table, it's unfortunate that the only place in town is Benihana. I've had so much better.
Woo ha phooey. – My girlfriends and I stopped here for lunch on Saturday afternoon before our bridal fittings. I remember coming to a Benihanas when I was young for my parents engagement party. Perhaps the thrill I felt then was due to my age. I found the food was bland and very basic and for the price...it was outrageous. I drank water, and ordered the chicken. My bill was $18 dollars...JUST FOR ME! There were TONS of onions, mixed in with mushrooms and a little bit of zucchini. Nothing else. I don?t enjoy making a meal out of onions. And the man cooking seemed to try too hard. He kept saying 'Happy birthday' and it was nobody?s birthday. He clicked the knives around but really didn?t do anything spectacular. And all of the chiefs I noticed were Hispanic, including ours. His name was Felipe. I found this ironic as it is considered a communal Japanese grill.
Save your money. Next time you?re in your own kitchen...tap the blades of your knives together and tell yourself happy birthday over and over and you?ve got basically the same thing.
