This school is a rip off I finished almost 4 weeks after I was supposed to because the equipment issues. Then the testing process was a joke. We had to drive all the way to Gainesville ga to test that's almost 3 hours away from Austell. I had to retest because the pretrip was different then we were taught and I failed. That was 2 weeks later because they couldn't get a test appointment and the next time I tested in Jackson Ga. A different location with a different pre trip. I failed again. I finally passed in Gainesville because Some students from Daly's Truck School let me practice the pre trip with them. The pre trip sheet they used was awesome and when I did it that way I finally passed. I chose to go to Katlaw because I was a little closer to that school. What a mistake I wish I had drove to the Daly school they actually seemed to know what they were doing.
Research first I hope you avoid Katlaw big mistake.
Avoid at all costs. The salesman on the phone was really shady from the start. I live in Douglasville so it was the closest school to me. I went in and was basically guaranteed that I would get my CDL. The classroom experience was a joke they basically just had you read over the CDL manuel while the classroom instructor managed to yard training program. We sat in class and studied out of the FREE CDL manuel. What a joke. After classroom we all went to the backing training on a run down parking lot that was barely big enough for 2 trucks much less 3 yard trucks and 2 road trucks. The vehicles were always breaking down anyways so the good news was that we only had 1 truck running most of the time. Then came road.... Man I don't even know what to say the equipment was at least 20 years old and really beat up. We all passed even though at least 3 people we truly dangerous. I waited 2 weeks later to test and by that time was rusty and failed everything. 4 tests later and almost 4 months I finally passed. By then no company would hire me because I had been out of school so long. I am currently sueing them. Avoid at all cost waste of time and money.
Testing – When the training was complete I had to wait almost 3 weeks to test. The test site was almost 2 hours away from me what a joke. We all failed that day. I am waiing to retest and am not getting any training right now. I'm out of work and need help. I wish I had gone somewhere else make sure you ask about the testing process.
My KATLAW Trainer Was A Sexy Distraction!!!!!!!!!! – Although I did not take my road test and graduate from KATLAW in October 2011 I can HONESTLY say that this truck driving school is worth your time and investment.
I LOVED the office location. I LOVED the professional look about the office. I LOVED the professionalism of the staff. ... ... ... ...

A positive learning experience. I had a great time! – going in to this three week course I was convinced that I would fail and that the whole thing was a waste of my money. But, by the end of week one which is classroom only, my confidence began to build as I realized that my success was dependent on accepting that hard work will pay off.Not to mention very strong encouragement from the classroom teacher William Johnson whose fun presentation helped this exhausted student get through the week .
The next two weeks are driving exercises such as backing skills, shifting and general control of the vehicle. My teacher for these two weeks was Helen Speers, who did an excellent job of communicating the job at hand. She was very patient with the three of us assigned to her truck and properly budgeted her time so that all of our weaknesses could be addressed.
Another positive thing to point out is that the other two students(Jose Rodriguez and Ron Fortner) that I was placed with could not have been any better. I don't know if this was deliberate or just an accident but we all got along great and spent all of our free time helping each other with the pre-trip inspection and just talking about driving skills, helping us all become better students. I wish I could be in this environment all the time. All of us passed and are now class A cdl drivers, including a return student Imagene (Emma Jean yet another good match for our group) giving Katlaw and Helen Speers a 100% pass rate.
Ripoff!!!! – After paying $2495.00 for a 3 week course to obtain a CDL License, my husband was told they could not "place" him do to the fact that he had a 9 year old felony on his record. Something they knew before they took our money but failed to mention in order to get our money!! AND...currently all of the companies that they work with for "job placement" are not hiring people without experience!!!!! Are you serious???? How can you "place" your students when the companies won't take them!!??!! Big Ripoff!! Very uncaring staff!! Money hungry! It's been almost a year and no job yet! Do yourself a favor and look into going through training with a trucking company directly! Cheaper and once you are done you work with them!
