Best food – Last week i went this resturant ,the food they served was the best food and was fresh too... Now its not greater india ..its choice of india ..everything is changed here..I mean management and food quality...i love their food...
horrible food & service – this place is a joke. first of all the new manager constantly bothered us while we were trying to have our dinner, second, the food they serve clearly aren't fresh, their utensils and silverware aren't washed properly. if you do decide to go there, please check ur utensils, because i bet they will be dirty. also, i have a feeling their chefs don't care about cleanliness because every so often they would come out of the kitchen and they would have on extremely dirty clothes, an no head gear!!!! lastly, they place on paper on top of their tables, and when they go to clean it, they make alot of noise, talk about unprofessional!!! my best advice is to go to Sultan, which is actually in the same shopping complex, they actually have authentic indian cuisine and their service is unmattched.
Highly recommend - Great Indian food – It was ladies night out celebrating my niece's birthday and what a great nite it was. Greater India has changed hands and is now run by the charming and very gracious Jewel. Not only did he help us with our selections - he was spot on. We had delicious appetizers followed by a delicious dinner. My entree was Seafood tiki masala - a delicious combination of salmon and shrimp. You can request the level of spice by saying mild, mild +, medium, etc.. - it is always easier to start with less and then they can always make it hotter. I had medium which was perfect. Save room for desert - the mango sorbet and house ice cream are delicious! Highly recommend - especially now that Jewel is there!
tasteless food and not kids friendly – I went to Greater India with my family for lunch. First of all I could tell the lady owner of the restaurant was not friendly at all. Then I was taken by another suprise when my 11 year old daughter was not allowed to go close to the buffet or was not allowed to look and pick her own food. The explanation I was given by the owner lady that my daughter is not tall enough. I think they should have a sign outside specifying the height to enter the restaurant. We wanted to leave right away but decided to give the food a try. The food was even horrible!!! Most of the food didn't even look or taste like Indian food. Didn't even look edible. This was our worst restaurant experience especially to my daughter!!! We will never go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty disappointing. – I'm sorry - but I think I may have just had the worst Indian meal of my life from this place. The owner was incredibly nice, but the chicken korma might have been the most bland I've ever had - and I've been eating Indian food for decades, and even dated a woman from Bangalore - so I think I have some basis for comparison. I will go back and try once more as this was my first visit, but I'm worried that if a basic chicken korma is an issue, others might be worse.
Very slow service and disappointing food – We went to Greater India on a Saturday night(agreed it is the busiest night of the week) and I must say that the service was terribly slow. And it was not just our table, we heard other people saying that they have been waiting for 1.5 hours for their entree to come out. I asked the lady(who owns this restaurant) and she said that we make everything fresh so it takes time. Comeon, I cook India food and it doesn't take this long to cook from scratch. The problem maybe that they have only a couple of people in the kitchen who can't keep up with the orders. Also, when the food came out it was quite disappointing. I mean you get better frozen food if you go to the India store and would probably taste much better than this restaurant food.
There are better Indian restaurants in the area so you can easily avoid this one.
Best kept secret in Montgomery County – Over the course of 6 years I've tried out all the Indian restaurants I'm aware of within a 10 mile radius of the Montgomeryville Mall and many others further afield in Philadelphia and even California. I keep coming back to Greater India. The food is incredible and the sauces are thick and flavorful. Other places in the area will often have disappointingly watery sauces and will cut corners with the spices, but not Greater India. Take-out orders are ready in 15 to 20 minutes most nights, and there's a lunch buffet with easily twice the variety and three times the quality of other establishments that costs only $8.95 -- weekends included! Moreover the place is extremely clean and pleasant, and the bathrooms spotless. The owner is very friendly and is obsessed with maintaining a top-notch presentation. And while the menu is extensive, the buffet often has items that are not on the menu, and the selection changes every day. I've never written a review before; but then, I know of no other restaurant -- Indian or otherwise -- that I would rate as a 10. Only thing: Greater India can be a little hard to spot from Welsh Road, but it's right next door to a Hollywood Video and it can be seen from the parking lot of the Assi supermarket. They have a website which I seem to not be allowed to include the address for, but it includes a map and (I think) a menu. The full name of the restaurant is actually "Greater India Fine Dining", so try those as key words.
