Mediochre Mexican... skip it! – Las Casuelas is not a place that I suggest you eat if you want good Mexican food. On my first visit there I had a bad experience with my dish. The dish had more Mole sauce than anyone would ever need, or eat. I actually ended up sending the dish back for something else. My second dish was better, but it was still not great. I figured I would give this restaurant another chance, only to be disappointed again. I ordered a simple dish of Chicken Tacos figuring that they would at least be edible. What I got was just blan with boiled chicken. Who boils chicken for tacos??? I learned my lesson and will not be returning again. I'd rather go to Taco Bell.
Authentic. Tasty. Worth the hype – Okay, so it's in a bit dodgier section of town, but, the Mexican food at las Casuelas is totally great. Tortilla soup is spicy and comes with strips of freshly made and fried tortillas on top. The mole sauce is sweet and spicy. Nothing is too spicy or covered up with too much sauce (or cheese, a la most Mexican restaurants in this town). this is real Mexican food, folks, served up as fresh and tasty as it comes. Prices are fair but not cheap (8 - 12 an entree). Note: ask for back dining room on cold nights -- no vestibule -- front room gets chilly as door keeps on opening.
