One of the worst restaurants – Hostess

(1) She seated the four of us with four adult dinner menus, even though it was two adults, a 5 and a 6-year-old. We assumed they didn’t have a children’s menu, so when the waitress came for our orders, we asked for spaghetti for the two boys. She said she’d give us a “half order” to split since it was big. Then, about 5 minutes after ordering (15 minutes after being seated), the hostess appeared again with children’s menus for the table, dropped them on the table and walked away without a word. ??? (2) She seated a couple with a fussy infant RIGHT next to us. Note: it was approximately 5 pm on Friday and the restaurant was not even remotely crowded yet. Plenty of room to space out the customers, which she didn’t do. (3) No word from her on departure.

Atmosphere

I wish this place had some! The restaurant is clean but the furnishings and décor felt like we were eating in a banquet hall. No atmosphere and no music playing in the background. The two bullet or BB holes through that large glass window didn’t help, and neither did the view of the parking lot and McDonald’s on the other side.

Food

The calamari appetizer was good, but as long as the flour mix/batter is good, how can you really screw up calamari? The Scoglio’s salad was bland. And one of ours had a hair in it. Okay, accidents happen, but when we told the waitress, she didn’t even apologize for the disgusting ingredient! Veal marsala was tasteless. It had no marsala flavor at all – the sauce could not have been prepared with Marsala wine – no way. Again, when we told the waitress, all she said “I’ll tell the kitchen.” Chicken Romano was also tasteless but sported a squirt of white and red cream sauce across the top. When we left, I saw the same squirted-on sauce on a few different dishes people were eating – it seems they made these two bland sauces and put them in a catsup/mustard squirter and use them to “stripe” different dishes for a metropolitan gourmet look – pathetic. The marinara sauce was so terrible; the children couldn’t even eat it. It was saturated with oregano – no basil flavor at all, and this has to be the worst red sauce I have ever eaten at an Italian restaurant. Getting to the wine, $8.75/glass for house wines. The entrees were $15 and up but most seemed to be in the $18-$24 range – WAY TOO MUCH for below-par food and restaurant. Actually, if I got this food at for $5 per dish, I would have felt ripped off. We ordered our dessert to go because we just wanted to get out of there. The tiramisu was good but I’ll bet they bought it at a local bakery. Firing the chef (really must be just a cook) would be a good start to straighten this place out.

Waitress-She was quick and friendly, but failed to offer satisfactory restitution for the problems we reported to her. Also, she didn’t offer children’s menus, and incorrectly charged us for a full entrée we didn’t receive for the children which should have come with a salad, but didn’t, never offered refills on beverages, etc.

After leaving the restaurant, we were so dissatisfied, we decided to call on the way home and complain to the manager. We held for about 5 minutes for her, and finally the hostess came back on and said the manager was “extremely busy” and she could call us back at 9:00 that night. !! Too busy to talk to a customer. Great service, NOT! Of course, she never called.

STAY AWAY! – Service is the absolute worst. Food is decent, but attitude of the staff (including management) - ruins it. Reservation for 7:15, arrive at 7:10, seated at 7:12 (why am I timing this? - you'll see). Wait staff doesn't visit the table until 7:30 - we order drinks, including water. Drinks arrived at 7:45 - 30 minutes after we arrived. Water came after the meal was served at 8:30. Tried to have a discussion with the management on the way out (discreetly) and was treated rudely. This is the third time we wnt, each time the service getsw worse - we're out of gift certificates for this place - so we won't be back - I suggest you do the same.
