Gas Doctor replaced heating control board our church's parsonage. The company charged $655 for the part and $179 for the labor. We investigated the price of the board and it is $279 at Smithfield Plumbing and Heating Supplies. The owner said he always charges 100% markup of the part. The question is why? He charges the labor and he is not an authorized dealer or supplier. Why does he make $376 from the part? Because he picked it up from the supplier? This is ridiculous and unethical. Even car dealers would not make over 100% from their parts. He never disclosed that he would charge $379 on $279 part.
Bad customer relationship – The company is good at ads but not on service and customer relationship. They charge more than they deserve. This company will not get my repeat business.
Misleading Yellow Page Ad – I needed service for a gas fireplace & I looked in the yellow pages. I live in South Kingstown and Gas Doctor ad said "serving Narragansett & surrounding areas." No company address was listed. The serviceman was very nice and fixed the problem in reasonable time, but the bill was higher than expected. He explained there was a $50 travel cost because the company is located in Cranston. The ad led me to believe it was local. There is a South Kingstown service I could have used, had I known about the travel costs. Gas Doctor not likely to get my repeat business.
GREAT SERVICE – I HAVE USED THIS COMPANY FOR AT LEAST 12-15 YEARS.THE FIRST TIME I NEEDED HELP WITH MY AIR CONDITIONING UNIT. THE GAS COMPANY HAD STOPPED THEIR ANNUAL SERVICE AGREEMENT.THEY WERE THE FIRST ONES TO REPLY.STEVE CAME BY AND TOLD ME HOW HE HAD BEEN WORKING FOR THE GAS COMPANY FOR 20 YEARS AND COULD TAKE CARE OF ANY GAS APPLIANCE.I GAVE HIM THAT JOB AND AFTER HE WAS DONE AND THE INVOICE BEING JUST RIGHT , I DECIDED TO KEEP HIS NUMBER ON TOP OF THE LIST.MANY YEARS WENT BY , MANY SERVICE CALLS LATER I STILL CALL HIM.AND PROMPTLY GINA CALLS BACK WITHIN AN HOUR AND THE SERVICEMAN IS AT MY DOOR RIGHT AFTER.
I WISH THERE COULD BE MORE PEOPLE LIKE HIM AROUND.TODAY, THE HEATER WENT BUST.

the Gas Dr. burned me! doesn't deserve one star – not only did they over charge me, they installed a wrong part in my furnace, causing flames to shoot out the air intake, putting my family at risk.
The owner.Steve, is very unprofessional and cursed at me over the phone and told me to go F myself when I tried to resolve my issue
If you choose to use the clown, be sure to keep an eye on the clock as he over charged me and I had to take him to court to get the over charge reversed. The owner is the most unprofessiona person I have ever met and actually threatened me after I won the court decision. I can't believe people like this guy actually stay in business.
Great Company as well as Great customer service!!! – I want to share with you a situation I was in that I don't wish on anybody.
This spring my wife and I decided to convert from oil to gas. We needed to find a plumber to come in and do the conversion once National Grid put the gas line from the street to our house.
We looked into several plumbers who came and gave us a quote. We decided on the plumber who was highly recommended by a close relative. On 9/17/08, He started the job and faced some barriers which caused him to be concerned for our safety. He overcame these barriers by walking off the job leaving us with no heat or hot water. The oil lines were cut and we had no gas. Frantically, we started calling several plumbers to see if they would take on the job. Three plumbers said that would come to give us an estimate. One of the three was the Gas Doctor. The owner, Steve, came to give us an estimate. He was higher than was quoted by the first plumber we had (who walked off) but cheaper than the other two that came. The price was a consideration but far from the reason why we choose the Gas Doctor. Steve, explained that the job can be done safely, and that we were not in any dangerous situation. He shared that he was a retired Providence Gas Company employee and that all of his men are experienced and take classes regularly when needed. This information eased my wife fears. Steve was willing to start the work immediately. His techs came the same day. By the next day, we had heat and hot water as well as an operating gas stove. I need to say that the technicians that came, we courteous, and professional. They answered any questions that we had. Pretty much, I can't say enough about the Gas Doctor only that they are going to be the company we would call for any gas issues in the future. I would highly recommend Steve and his technicians for any Gas needs you may have.
I believe that the "Gas Doctor" is one of the biggest rip offs around. – Aside from the technician being courteous, I was taken advantage of and way over charged by about $175.00. The job took only 10 to 15 minutes and I was charged $150.00 labor. Their technician diily dollied and proceeded to go in and out to waste time. After spending all this money he proceded to tell me that he still could not turn on my gas and recommended my chimney be swept due to blockage. Once my chimney was swept I was told that they would come back to turn on my gas for another $100.00. After hiring someone to clean the chimney and spending more money , I was told that there was no problem with the chimney after all. The man from the chimney company informed me that It was not unusual for the flut to perform that way due to the heat outside . THIS WAS SOMETHING THE GAS DOCTOR SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!!!!!!!
Not recommended – I wasn't too shocked at how my service call went however I was very displeased with how the company operates. The technician was friendly yet not overly helpful and quick to spend 10 minutes telling me what I already new about my fireplace and charge me $89 This is posted on the website for the first 1/2 hr. charge but comical to think that with no real solutions to improving my fireplace or evaluating whether my venting was properly installed I would ever consider calling them again. It was a nice quick $89 but left me wondering how this would build customer interest......waste of my time and ofcourse money........eventually customers choose not to deal with a business that brings no value for your hard earned money.
