We wont be going back - UPDATED! – Moons use to be the place to go for breakfast. I will be finding a new place. Went two weekends ago with the whole family and had the guy as our server...what a d-bag. He was so put out to even take our order let alone be bothered to refill our water. My husband and I thought we would give it one more go around this morning, just the two of us. Even worse! We had the same guy and he was the same a-hole he was the first go around. We thought we were ordering the early bird special for eating before 9am. When we got the check and asked him why it was full price he said it "wasn't his f***ing problem that they need to fix their menu". That was the finaly straw that pushed my husband over. We had a coupon and decided that since we wont be returning we would like to use it, he had apparently already cashed the ticket out and call the old lady over to help. Surprise, surprise...she is a bitch. The only redeeming quality is that the younger gal waitress came over and was polite and friendly, then the manager came from the kitchen also a younger guy. He was very helpful and polite. We will most assuredly not be coming back and we will be sharing our experiences with everyone!!

*Update - this review has been moved from a 1 star to a 3 star as I was contacted by the kitchen manager. He not only appologized but updated me that this waiter is no longer working there. If I can convince my husband, we may be giving Moon's another try. I always, always, always appreciate good customer service and the kitchen manager appears to have it.

Great service, but owner ambivalent about raw chicken – We ordered the chicken tenders for our 16-month old. We tore it into smaller pieces for her. After she ate about a third of it we found it was raw.

We brought it to the waiters attention and he was very nice and brought us another order that was cooked. He apologized that he couldn't do more for us than give us a $2.00 coupon. So, I asked to see the manager.

The owner, Bob Dempsey, came out. After telling him the story he seemed ambivalent. I told him that I would call him if our daughter got sick and he said to call.

But, he did not ask me to call if she got sick, he did not offer any compensation (I was surprised especially because kid's meals are so inexpensive), and he did not act like we were a priority (he seem to be more concerned with a lady sitting at the table next to us).

At least the waiter cared, but that is not enough to make us go back or stop us from telling others about our experience.

Best Breakfast / Lunch in town! – I work Downtown and eat at Moon's almost every day.

The food is GREAT! Everything is always fresh and made from scratch. The servers are friendly and fun.

Their specials are generally delecious and different than the usual menu items. That makes it interesting for me. Soups are made daily not the frozen bagged stuff other places serve. Prices are very reasonable so I can afford to go there often. Not to mention the milkshakes Moon's is so famous for. They take a hunk of home made apple pie and put it in a shake! Now thats good!

I have never had any difficulties eating at Moon's.

You need to try them out, you won't be disappointed!

Owner of the business drops the F bomb to paying customers. – I have never been treated so bad by an employee of a business and by an owner of a business. The waitress we had was very rude, and when I asked to talked to the manager the owner came over . When I told him my concerns about our service he told myself and the individuals at the table we could F ourselves if we didn't like the service.

In these diffucult ecomonic times, why would a owner of a downtown business tell a customer that, not knowing where they work. I will personal never go there again and I have told my co-workers and over individuals in my building about this issue.

If you do go to Moon's I would suggest not complaining to the owner because he will just tell you where to go and not care about his customers comments or concerns.

Worst service ever! – I unfortunately decided to take my parents to breakfast here. I remembered the great food I had there about five years before, when it was under different ownership and in the neat place with the gift shop. I could look past all of this, if the food and service was good. Unfortunately it was not.

The place was deserted when we walked in the door. There was one table with anyone at it. This should have been a clue to cut and run, but I was determined to reminisce old times. We finally decide to seat ourselves. After about 10 minutes the two waitresses appear and one of them hands us menus and pushes for us to make a decision immediately. After explaining we needed time to look at the menu we are bereft of a waitress for another 15-20 minutes.

The food was o.k. We were having a rather late breakfast, so my mom ordered a chicken sandwich. She ate one of the two breaded and fried strips that came in it, after peeling off the bun, cheese, and some sauce I could tell by her expression she thought was gross. She ate some of the fries. My son and daughter ordered pancakes and eggs. They are satisfied with almost anything, so there was not issue there.

My dh and I ordered an egg dish. I ordered the Denver omelet, but having serious digestive issues with true meat, I asked to substitute the sausage in it for veggie sausage since I had that option. We are served our food and I ate about 1/3 of my omelet before I came upon a big enough chunk of sausage crumble to realize it was in the omelet. I guess I should have asked the waitress to verify I got what I ordered when the veggie sausage was served on the side, but she was scarce as water in a dessert. We were lucky to get our orders in.

At this point, it's too late for me. I'm going to be in pain all night long thanks to this mistake. I have to wave down the server and point out the mistake. She immediately becomes argumentative and angry, insisting that I should have clarified what I wanted. I calmly state that I thought "substitute" meant switch one for the other. When she get irritable about why it should matter, I try to explain that I have digestive issues that prevent me from processing animal protein and cause me abdominal pain; hence the substitution of veggie sausage. This is embarrassing enough, let alone to have to explain it to someone who clearly gives me no credence. She just huffed off with her nose literally in the air.

I hear another waitress behind the counter ask what happened as the cavernous room allows all sound to travel, even when not confrontational with customers. I also clearly hear her yell that I already ate half my meal before complaining. I'm sorry if the real sausage was in such small crumbles, that with the fluffy scramble consistency of egg, other mix-ins and cheese, I couldn't see it.

After a minute or so she huffs back to the table and begrudgingly offers to take 1/5 off of my meal. Never mind that I had not touched anything else...not the toast, not the side, nothing. I had less than 1/2 of 1/3 of all of my meal....so yea....1/2 off sounds great.

In total, I walked away very hungry because I ate 1/3 of one omelet for the whole meal, I was looking forward to a night of sleeplessness due to severe abdominal pain from having real sausage, and I had to pay for parking that in all reality should have been free if the waitress had gotten around to waitressing in a reasonable time (1st hour is free and we were 1/2 a block away.) Oh, and the icing on the cake: as we were leaving I see someone through my peripheral vision and turn to follow the image, to see her glare at me and literally stick her nose up in the air and turn around to huff off once again! This is on par with the worst service given….ever. I would recommend you run away from this place if ever it darkens your path.

Love Moon's – Moon's is actually located at 712 W Idaho now. I eat there a lot and I love all the food choices, breakfast all day. The food quality is high and I love the Spicey chicken Eggs Beni. The service is exceptionally friendly and attentive. I've always been treated well and gotten high quality dishes. Chicken Fried Chicken is now my current favorite! They say dinner is coming soon.

Moon's Kitchen Has Moved! 712 W Idaho, Boise, ID – Moon's Kitchen has moved next to Old Chicago in Boise. Having been taken over 2 years ago by Lisa Kugel and Bob Dempsey, Moon's Kitchen is being brought back to its former glory with excellent food and affordable prices. Serving Boise since 1955, this is one of the oldest Diners still in operation in Idaho.

Live Music on Sat and Sun 11a-2p. Nostalgic atmosphere.

Don't even think about it! – Sorry to say, Moon's isn?t the same. Breakfast on 1/31/2009... Really bad. (1) Eggs Benedict were awful, home fried potatoes were cold; (2) Egg Scramble ok but hash browns had been cooked in very old oil... yuck and the toast was burnt.

Breakfast used to be sooo good but I guess the new owner doesn?t care.

Not recommended!

Under New Ownership - Serving Boise since 1955 – Moon's Kitchen has weathered many storms and participated in many sunny days since 1955. Recently purchased by Bob Dempsey and Lisa Kugel, a new era of Moon's seems to be rising. Oh, don't worry, comfort food is still the main stay, however, Moon's is getting cleaned up and a bit of a face lift. The new owners seem sincerely interested in keeping and growing the great Moon's Community.

I hadn't eaten at Moon's in quite awhile. While downtown last week I cruised in to see what was going on. Wow! What a breath of fresh air! No more gift shop cluttering your way through the restaurant. Sunlight streaming through the front window. A new floor and new paint is beginning to emerge. I'm so excited that Moon's is being spruced up! The food is still the most reasonable down town. I noticed it is almost a full $3 less expensive then its diner rival Goldy's, on almost every plate. $3 a plate adds up in tough economic times. I asked the owner what the plans for the menu were and they assured me the menu will remain the same with a few additions like ....Lasagna! Bob's Special Lasagna. I tried it...I mean diner Lasagna, how can you resist? Oh my gosh....essentially a Ziti Lasagna and it was so great! There are some new faces at Moon's and the service was excellent. Don't worry, Betty is still there...moving into her 16th year! If you are looking for hearty portions, comfort food and the best shake in the State, I highly recommend Moon's Kitchen for anyone living or visiting the Boise area.
