Great hair cut – I have been very happy with this salon, there was a time that they styled it "too flat" and when I commented that I didn't like it so flat, they re-did my hair. I use Christine, who has never failed me.
Great atmosphere, attentive stylist.
Amazing cut by Quinn – After a horrible cut and color two years ago at an expensive salon, I avoided having my hair done because I was traumatized. Then, I went to Paris Parker Aveda Salon on Prytania about a month ago and was awed. They found an appointment time to fit my schedule within one week, and I wasn't foisted off on some new stylist. I ended up being seen by Quinn, who was wonderful. I told him I butchered my bangs cutting them myself and was prepared for him to trim a ton of hair off. I gave him barely any parameters for what I wanted apart from: My hair is really thin, and damaged. He cut a beautiful bob and showed my how to better blow my bangs out so they hung the way I wanted. He seemed to very quickly intuit what I wanted and the unique demands of my hair. My hair is now low-maintenance, healthy, and looks fabulous. The cut Quinn gave me was precise and tailored to my particular needs and features. He did such a fantastic job, and I am a devotee. Even though I was apprehensive walking in, and it seemed very formal, Quinn and the colorist put me at ease and were very professional in giving me more than I ever expected. Great conversation and a fun personality made him a bonus. He clearly revels in hair and appreciates women. A male friend of mine also goes to him and loves him as well. This experience was preceeded by one of the new colorists, who also rocked my world. She quickly found the color I wanted and was very attentive in making me comfortable during the color and drying.
Depends on the stylist! – After reading the other reviews, I had to chime in. I'm sorry that other people have had bad experiences, but I have FINALLY found someone that can really cut my curly hair. Stacey Spiers is AWESOME! (She also teaches at a training school, so that may be why she's so good!) So, if you have curly hair, she is THE ONE to see!
AVOID if you can – I have started going to the Uptown location in 2002, I was happy with color (after changing the person twice with poor early resuts), but when my colorist left I was forced to switch, I chose the "best" one (most expensive and most popular).
I also go to another Aveda salon in another city; Uptown Paris Parker kept incresing prices, whereas the other salon has kept the coloring prices the same. I ended up over a 6.5 year period paying 300% more than what I started with (# times) in New Orleans!!!! The same story with haircuts; every time I walked out from the chair of this "award winning" person I ended up with one side being longer than the other or a string not cut at all, and hanging two inches longer than the rest of the hair. I tried four different haircut people, and none of them are trained properly.
I have been to top salons in several countries, this is the WORST salon with poorest training and the least amount of talent. Paris Parker does not have any competition in town so they get away with it, but believe me it is not worth your money. I would be paying the price (about $250 for color and haircut plus 10% tip) if I was getting anything decent withour any regret.
Their timing on the coloring is too short, it quickly washes off (remember I am comparing it to another well known Aveda salon out of town) and my greys show after two weeks. But it moves customers quickly so they can make more money. Often you are left in the hand of a trainee to style your hair and you walk away with a horrible experience.
They allow people to cut hair after a couple months of training and another couple months of interning. Other states mandate the peron to be trained at least for one year before they can cut hair, and in many other countries it is a much longer process. So you are often left in the hands of "green" people. Worse the people who used to work in the salon but did not succeed, because they were very bad, end up being the trainers at the Paris Parker School where they train new people!!!
I have left the salon, so did my fiancee; and I have heard several other people doing the same. A lot of people go there since there isn't much other choice in Uptown and the salon itself looks nice and "hip".
Avoid, avoid, avoid...
I will go back- – A little overwhelmed when I first walked in but was greeted by a friendly front desk. It was more expensive than I was expecting, however my colorist Tiffany and my stylist Johnathan were EXCELLENT!!! Although it seemed busy they took the time to focus on me and listen to what I was looking for. Both made me feel comfortable and were extremely friendly and seemed to be pros at what they were doing. A friend recommended this salon; I'm glad she did.
Fashion forward and amazing hair! – I visited Paris Parker Prytania Street location after reading about their stylist being selected for NY Fashion Week. I live in Atlanta, however, travel to New Orleans regularly and decided to book a color and cut while I was in town. I absolutely loved both! I asked about current trends and both the colorist and cutter made the perfect recommendations for me! Love it!
Wickedly overpriced. Inconsistent. – My last experience at this Salon made me wonder if I ever want to get my hair highlighted again. 2 days before my wedding I went to Paris Parker on Prytania street to have my hair touched up. The assistant who washed the bleach out (and blew it dry) left bleach at the back of my head which I didn't discover until I was almost home. Interestingly enough I actually ASKED her as she was blow-drying if she got all the color out as my hair felt stiff and wasn't drying well. Without having time to turn around and go back to the salon I returned home and washed it out myself. The Salon was not particularly apologetic, offering me a complementary wash and dry instead of a refund. They also suggested that perhaps I was wrong and had mistaken "styling product" for bleach. For the top dollar that they charge they should have MUCH better customer service and consistency. While the colorist I had been using did a fine job, I will never go back to this salon. I am confident that can find equally good colorists in a nicer environment who don't charge me an arm and a leg and insist I don't know the difference between bleach and styling products. And for the record, my husband had been getting his hair cut at this salon but also stopped as we had been getting inconsistent results.
Best place I have found uptown : ) – I have gone to this salon for a year and will not see anyone else. Quinn does a great job on my hair! I am from London and have had my hair done at many top salons. I have been so happy with this salon that I will wait for an appointment and would not trust my hair to any other place. I feel that the two prior reviews were an exception and that this place is one of the best. I know people usually only take the time to write a review when they are unhappy with the srevice. I wanted to take the time because I am very happy with my inverted bob style and was online looking for the phone number to check the time of my appointment today when I read the above...
Very Disappointed – I just went to the Prytania Street Paris-Parker Aveda Salon. I am very disappointed. My hair requires no special treatments, no color, no extensions, just simple trimming. I even told my stylist I just wanted her to follow the cut that I already had, that I just wanted to refresh it and have my bangs trimmed. It is MUCH shorter than I wanted, one side is longer than the other, and what used to be a cute inverted bob now looks like some stringy Iggy Pop-wannabe nightmare, but without any traces of cool.
