LOVE IT! – You can't get a better meal. The freshness and quality of this food is to die for. Take your date there to impress her without breaking the bank. It is by no means cheap, but compared to restaurants downtown, I would say 10 times better for half the price. I am a foody and this is my favorite restaurant in the city. The food is always great, as is the service and ambience. If you are a meat lover, it doesn't get better than Lumiere, dry aged ribeyes, hanger steaks - ever heard of one? They're the most tasty cut of meat I've ever had. Their fish always tastes like it was caught that morning (probably was) and the chef even knows the name of the boat that catches his fish. More than food, a remarkable experience.

Best Restaurant - Certified Green and Supports Local Farmers – Lumiere is my favorite restaurant in Boston, sure it's not in Boston Proper, but you can't get a better meal anywhere in this city. From the moment you walk into the door you are greeted by warm, smiling faces. The service is welcoming and friendly and professional. Simply thinking about Levitons cuisine makes my mouth water. You must try the seared sea scallops! Even if you are not a scallop lover you will change your mind. You can't go wrong with any choice and what impresses me most is the consistency. I've eaten at Lumiere over a dozen times and every time I am blown away. If you haven't been GO. Also they offer a fixed price menu for 40 dollars Sunday through Thursday. You get 3 courses for only $40 dollars - delicious.

Great Restaurant Week 2008 Experience! – Lumiere offered up the best of the Restaurant Week experience I have had. The corn soup and BLT salad were delectable. The Chatham bluefish was the best prepared bluefish I have had -- such bold, tantalizing flavor! The blueberry shortcake was superb -- the perfect example of what shortcake should be. While I have minor criticisms of the hake (could have had bolder flavor) and the lime sorbet (could have been less tart), the meal was overall delicious and the service was polished and attentive.

Definitely visit for Restaurant Week -- note, Lumiere has an extended Restaurant Week menu.

bedsheets and waana-be french food at BIG prices – Food was OK and some even tasty, but certainly not "French" or consistently excellent. Service is spotty at times. The stuff they serves is small portions at HUGE prices. Good place, though I don't understand the bed sheets on glass. Try it, but I think it's a poor value based on price/quantity.

BEST OF BOSTON – This isn't simply the best restaurant in MetroWest. This probably the best restaurant in the entire Boston area. On a recent trip to NYC, and wanting to sample the best that New York has to offer, we dined at Jean Georges. After waiting nearly 2 hours !!! past our reservation time for a table, the food was just OK. Returning to Boston and looking to "make-up" for that experience, we went back to Lumiere and were blown away once again. Michael Leviton is a culinary genius and I feel lucky to have Lumiere within driving distance. I'm only rating this 5 stars, but he deserves six!

Elegant yet understated, this West Newton bistro charms with its expert cuisine and casually romantic environment. – The Scene
An exceptionally welcoming, and pricey, neighborhood restaurant, Lumiere honors its name ("light" in French) by filling its dining room with calming woods, white linen and candlelight. Efficient servers point out the menu's many intricacies while looking out for empty water glasses. Couples form a high-brow date by combining a meal with an indie flick across the street at the West Newton Cinema.

The Food
Lumiere's signature dish, seared sea scallops served atop a dollop of potato mousseline with fresh mushroom vinaigrette, personifies its commitment to upscale, crowd-pleasing fare. Carnivores revel in a luxurious Wolfe's Neck Farm steak, served with a beef marrow-brown butter jus, roasted garlic creamed spinach and crisp french fries. Entrees feature artful preparations of fresh fish (mustard and walnut-crusted Atlantic halibut) and game (brined and roasted Niman Ranch pork chop). Desserts like Tahitian vanilla bean creme brulee and a peach-almond crisp do not disappoint.

great place for a special evening – My husband and I have been there 3 times. We loved the ambience, romantic and mellow. The food was excellent, though pricey; the waitstaff helpful, though there seemed to be many of them. I would definitely recommend Lumiere for a special occasion, or a treat for close friends.

Forget Downtown – This is a restaurant that really gets it. The food is exceptional, it walks the line between the old french gaurd and the new school French-American ideal. There is obviously a real passion for the total dining experience at Lumiere, the focus lies on the guest not just the food and the decor like most downtown establishments. I purposely dressed down a bit (jeans and a button down shirt) just to see what kind of reaction I would get, the door staff could not have cared less, there were instantly warm and welcoming(Le Soir take notes). The service was professional, and freindly without being overly so. Be sure to order the scallops, a truly decadent dish. The best part is that Lumiere offers parking to its guests.

Better than Boston – Hard to believe that the best food in Boston is in the suburbs. As a surbanites who refuses to venture out to the suburbs to dine, I was totally amazed at the quality of everything about Lumiere. I had totally dismissed it as a typical suburban upscale restaurant for those who dine out a few times a year, which basically means it's great to suburbanites, but very average to people who fortunately or unfortunately end up dining out all the time in the city. I am extremely glad that my clients suggested the place.

French? Mais non – The negatives: The decor is chrome, glass and bed sheets. Not in the least bit comfortable or relaxing. The food is not, by anyone's imagination, French. It's more American cuisine with a "soupcon" of Gaullic accent.

The positives: The food is, nevertheless, delicious. I had grilled scallops which were amazing, although not convinced about mashed potatoes as the starch. The service is relaxed and perfection itself. And, let's face it, a great restaurant with on street parking.....woo hoo.
