unpleasant experience – We wouldn't go back here anyway because we weren't impressed with their food, but after the experience we've got at the end - we will never go back for sure.
We had a coupon from Eversave for that place. We wanted Dim Sum, but it was not covered by coupon, so no problem, we ordered from the regular menu.
When it was a time to pay we presented a iPhone Apps coupon as we always do in absolutely every restaurants and stores... just to figure out that they have no idea what to do with it and only except coupons printed on paper. Common... it is 2012 and we live in MA! They suggested us to go and look for a printer in the nearest stores since they don't have their own printer(and of cause everything around them were closed) or pay the whole price and come again tomorrow to use our coupon since it expires in 2 days.
So we end up ordering not what we wanted and after long conversation with a manager, paying extra $20 for it, because she refused to use a bar code number from iPhone apps. If you can't screen it, just write it down, like every other place does. People don't print and carry with them paper coupons the size of 11 format any more. It's inconvenient and plus... aren't we saving trees and going green?
I go to the restaurants very often, also I asked my friends and it looks like China Pearl is the only resonant in Boston area which doesn't work with smart phones coupons.
Would be nice if they would at list suggest free dessert or something, but they behaved like it was totally our fault.
Awesome dim sum! – This place sort of looks like a run down Forbidden City from the outside, but walking through the front doors you realize how beautiful it might have once been.
Now, I'm by no means a dim sum expert - this was only my second dim sum experience - but I loved it. I thought the selection was great. Many of the waiters and waitresses spoke pretty good English so they could answer my questions about what I was eating, the food was delicious, parking was super easy with a big lot out back and best of all, its only about 10 minutes away from my house!
I will most definitely be back!
Popular Chinatown dim sum spot maintains a pair of suburban locations, in Woburn and Quincy. – The original China Pearl, found in the heart of Chinatown, has become synonymous with dim sum, offering a breathtaking variety of Chinese delicacies. Weekend waits are a given for the suburban families and homesick college students who fill communal tables (larger groups usually get a table of their own). Harried servers are constantly in motion, pushing rickety carts of dim sum past curious onlookers. While there's a standard Cantonese menu of familiar dishes (orange flavored chicken), most diners come here for the high-quality dim sum, of which there are dozens of varieties. By offering authentic, Old World delicacies (periwinkles with a spicy black bean sauce, steamed chicken feet) and simple, tasty buns and dumplings (savory shrimp shumai, sweet barbecued pork buns), the kitchen keeps dim sum veterans happy while providing beginners with a wonderful introduction to this popular dining phenomenon.
