Love this place. I have never had any problems with them, and I love their food!
sushi! – Ate here many times, always very happy with their food and service! Food first: Love their sushi, especially the one with soft shell crabs as well as the spicy tuna roll. There are some stuff on the menu that I've never seen before - I heard it was created by the owner himself. Tried their habachi once and was amazingly entertained, def worth it!
I was also impressed with their service - I go there 1-2 times a month but the owner's wife remembers me. The others apparently can't speak English that well, but for people with language barriers they did quiet well. I do wonder where some of the old crew went though, haven't seen a girl name Amy for a while.
I would recommend anyone to go there
Begining of the END! – Tonight (4/5/12) was the last straw!
I concour to what Carissa wrote and this was prior to Umi's move!
If a reastaurant is going to go up in price, then one should NOT receive cold food...from the teppanyaki !!!
I spoke with the Hostess about the "chef" had to take the rice & noodle off my plate and my child's plate to only have it soaked in too much soy sauce and served back luke warm! The lame excuse she gave me was that I should next time request the "chef" to cook the vegetables, rice and noodle FIRST then the meat. Since when anyone has to tell the "chef'" the order of what to cook?! Is it too much to assume that the reason why I keep coming back to a resturant because they have professional "chef's" who suppose to know how to cook teppanyaki? Is this too much to exspect?! She did not even apologise. Then I asked was that a new "chef" because I didn't recognized him. She said no and explained then it must've been the grill wasn't hot enough...no kidding!!!!
Now, I've been going to Umi's for four years and NEVER had a bad meal (lunch or dinner) until tonight! Three other people, including the person who first introduced me to Umi's has stated that the service and quality of food has diminished!!! Since the move, it is the begining of the end!
If your willing to spend your money at Umi's, go to these places INSTEAD:
1) Ichigo Ichie 5 Catamore Blvd East Providence, RI,
2) any of the Jacky's Galaxie's or Apsara Place's resturant's in Rhode Island and
3)Angkor 10 Traverse St Providence, RI
At least you don't have to cook your food yourself, tell a chef how to cook, worry about faulty equipment or food poisoning!
Rude and Awful Service – Made a 7:30 reservation for 7 people, 2 of us arrived at 7:15, 2 more that 7:25, and the last 3 at 7:35. They gave our table away and refused to honor our reservation, saying we would have wait another hour. The manager said we could have free drinks and when a waitress was sent over to take our drink order, we were told that they would not be free. I will never go there again. As we were leaving the manger was yelling at us. The lady has no idea how to run a business and the concept of Customer Service. I strong recommend that you never go there.
SUSHI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – Love the sushi there! So much that I go every Monday night~! Dinosaur Maki and Ultimate Maki.............. are the absolute best!!! The owners are super friendly also!!
Suushhiii – I love this place i've gone once before and we recently made reservations for mother's day! and i cannot wait! this is my all means my favorite place~
Great sushi and sashimi. – I took my wife out for sushi on her birthday. This was the first time we had eaten at the Umi Japanese Steakhouse, but I had heard good reviews about it. It was a wonderful experience.
We sat at the sushi bar where we watched the sushi chef work his magic; the man had his hands full as we had ordered the ?King Boat.? (sashimi, sushi, California roll, tekka, Boston, unagi maki, kappa maki.) which comes with miso soup and salad.
The waiter spoke perfect English and was very prompt without being overly chatty. We had great views of two different hibachi chefs working at their stations and they were amazing also.
Our food arrived beautifully displayed and was the finest sushi I had had in this area.
My wife was on the phone telling some friends about the place before we pulled out of the parking lot.
I cannot wait to go again.
best japanese food ever, great sushi, obsessed with this place – not too pricey includes soup, salad, veggies, rice and whatever meat you choose, i eat there all the time excellent service never wait for drink refills
