Love, love, love. I only wish they stayed open after lunch so I could enjoy my favorite fish tacos into the evening. The Mojo Fish and the Heather tacos are must-haves, and with Dona sauce, always.
The fact that this stuff is colloquially known as "Green Crack Sauce" should tell you something. Tacodeli's Dona Sauce is creamy and HOT, but a few drops instantly elevate your tacos to culinary transcendence. It's got such a devoted fan base that they started selling bottles of it right in the restaurant.
Great for boring people – If you're looking for a restaurant with overpriced, bland, fake gringo Mexican food, this is the place. Go to Arandas on South 1st for the real thing. This place is filled with stuffed suits on their lunch breaks from the nearest office park.
If you are close, pop in – The food is great from a vegetarian point of view. I am quite fond of the Heather. There are a few other vegetarian options that are original from other items you might commonly see on an average mexican menu.
The menu is small, but the food is great. I wish the hours included those closer to dinner time since this really limits the ability to eat there.
Mistakes – These folks have always gotten my breakfast mixed all around with the wrong ingredients as well. It's not even all that good either.
Gotta try the funindo with the donya sauce – Great unique quality mexican inspired food in a casual atmosphere.
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors – Casual Mexican restaurant cooks up tacos, tortas, and wraps for breakfast and lunch. Weekly specials, catering and vegetarian items offered.
User review by nrbrandon – Tacodeli just opened a new location at Gracy Farms & Burnet (east of Mopac), so I tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and loved it. The decor is nice but casual, and the employees are friendly. I ordered two veggie burritos on my first visit which were very filling; ordered an avocado salad on the 2nd visit and it was yummy as well. They have 3 different types of salsa, all very flavorful.
A hidden treasure – Great lunch spot if you live/work in the area. Tacodeli has resurrected the modern taco -- inventive fillings, great salsas, wide array of choices. The flavors are rich and go way beyond the "meat+tortilla" standard of Austin taco establishments.
I don't regard the $6.95 blue plate as a particularly good lunch value, the amount of food you get is less than $7 lunch specials elsewhere, but the tacos are great.
Be prepared to line up after 11:45 or so, but service is quick.
Recommended: Adobados, Mexico City, Picadillo
Fabulous – I found this unique and cozy restaurant by accident when I moved into the neighborhood. Since then I've become a huge fan and easily converted many of my friends into loyal customers. The food is just YUMMY and the vibe is totally Austin.
