Reviews for Jeng Chi Restaurant

The first 2 minutes already seemed troublesome. The front desk did not greet us as if we were just shopping. Only after we asked for a table did the waitress told us to wait for 10 minutes to be seated.

After we were seated, we found the menu rather bland and boring. Nevertheless we ordered one tofu dish, one noodle and an appetizer (leek turnover). The noodle came within 10 minutes.

But after I finished the noodle, my partner's dish was not served, not to mention the appetizer.

30 minutes later, we asked again. The waitress assured us that the dish was prepared and about to be served. That was a lie, as we saw dishes were brought out to other tables.

Another 5 minutes later, we asked whether we could at least have our appetizer. Then the waitress said the hot steam buns would be out in a minute. Wait, we did not even order that!

After that, we were too angry to protest. We left a 20 dollar bill on the table. (The noodle costs only 6 dollars. It would cover everything we had ordered.) We walked out of the door and told the waitress this was unacceptably slow.

Guess what? They are not slow after all. 1 minute later, one waiter ran outside after us and urged us to go back to pay our meal. We shouldn't have had to pay the service or food we did not consume, but we did leave a 20-dollar bill on the table. The greediness and the terrible service left us speechless.

For anyone who wants authentic Chinese food, try Royal Sichuan, which is in the same plaza. The food is great and the service always satisfying.

So very delicious! I have been going here for years...Id say about 8 now, and they are always great! service is a little slow but the food is worth it. The two things you must try are green onion pancakes/ and the small and juicy dumplings!

The BEST! – I have been going to Jeng Chi for almost 10 years now. The service is eh but the food makes up for it. The place is always packed and I have never ordered anything I didn't like. This is not a Dim Sum restaruant. That is why the other review was bad. This is the best food traditional food in town!

It's dumplings galore at this Richardson spot known for Dim Sum. – In Short
Fast and affordable are the two calling cards of Jeng Chi in Richardson's Chinatown. The non-descript strip mall boutique is best suited for take-out and to go orders from a diverse selection of traditional Chinese. But it's the dumplings at Jeng Chi that stand out. The Jiaozi (dumplings), zhengjiao (steamed dumplings) and shuijao (boiled dumplings) are the most popular items on the menu while the fried potstickers and green onion pancakes will also do the trick.

Avoid everything but the dumplings – I came here thinking I was going to have the traditional dim sum considering it was the audience winnder for the best dim sum in dallas. FYI: dim sum is not served here!! It's just known for dumplings and everything else we ordered was mediocre, if not bad chinese food. I'm Asian, so I like eating authentic Asian food, and the dumplings are not wonderful or fantastic. They were ok!!! Note: this is not your traditional dim sum place

Dumplings Galore – Located in the Chinatown strip mall off of Greenville Ave in Richardson, Jeng Chi is an extremely popular, no frills spot due to its low prices and quick service. Though the menu offers a diverse selection of traditional Chinese cuisine (and Ive had several notable Szechuan style dishes here), usually people order dumplings. On the last visit, We decided on a steamer of little juicy buns (xiaolongbao), potstickers (pan fried dumplings), boiled chicken and zucchini dumplings, green onion pancakes, and noodles topped with ground pork sauce (zha jiang mian).

Most of the items were above average to excellent (with the exception of the pan fried dumplings, which may have been just especially bad on my visit). But like I said before, the menu is large and I cant wait to try some of the other items.

Dumplings dumpling dumplings! – Dumplings; you have to order at least one. They have frozen ones that you can take home to boil.

In the winter, order the vegetarian green noodles (chicken broth is an option) - this dish really hits the spot in cold weather or if you are not feeling well.

For the spicy side, they have a seafood noodle soup.

Their onion pancakes are a favorite of this place.

Price - cheap cheap cheap. ~$5-8 per dish.

I've not had a bad dish in this place.

Friday and Saturday nights are harder to get seated because of the large groups that come in. Price of success, pun intended.
