I needed a major hair repair and got just that at Head Games – I have been growing my hair out for 3 years and at one point it was completely black. After numerous attempts at lightening it at another salon in Portland, I decided to give it a try at Head Games. My hair was at this point 3 different colors: black on the bottom, copper in the middle, then my natural brown at the top as my roots. I was a mess. My hairdresser was Ashley and she saved me and turned me into the old me I can remember from years back when I was happy and blond! She totally cared about everything I wanted and had her own suggestions as well. I chose to do whatever she thought best, since she was the expert. The gamble paid off. My hair is so beautiful, full of blonds and browns, and it's still healthy! I wanted to keep my length but she gave it a stylish cut to add some body and I simply love it. Every time I look in the mirror I can't help but smile. It's hard to find someone you can trust your hair with but I definitely found that person with Ashley at Head Games. I will be back in a few months for sure. Thanks Ashley!

Vanessa and the Micro Current Facial are Amazing – I must admit I was little skeptical in regard to the facelift without surgery, but the Beautiful Image micro current facial is for real. Vanessa is so wonderful, sweet and attentive. She makes sure I am comfortable and relaxed, even if someone else needs to borrow her ipod, which she has filled with some nice relaxing tunes; "really enjoyed the Cat Stephens",she improvised with another small sound machine with wooshing relaxing sounds of the ocean. She's always studying up on other recommendations for enhanced skin care and sharing her helpful hints with me each time. Next session I'm going to try out the Heat Suite for 15 minutes prior which is supposed to be quite an experience itself. A good dose of vitamin D is one of the benefits and a definite plus this time of year in Maine . My used to be wrinkles were really getting me down , I'M SO GLAD THAT I TRIED THIS TOTALLY UPLIFTING EXPERIENCE WITH VANESSA. Oh , Yah, the cucumber water us sooooo wicked good.mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The Ultimate Shave, A Treat for Guys. Spoil Yourself, or Also A Nice Gift. Ask for Maureen. – I had a great new experience today, an authentic barber chair shave, courtesy of the lovely Maureen (aka Mo). A completely relaxing process starting with a hot towel, then a thorough, skillful straight razor shave, and finished with a mild astringent and moisturizer. When she was done, I ran my hand over my cheeks, and it was possibly the smoothest shave I've ever had. Highly recommended for any guy who appreciates a close shave.

Fantastic cut, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff – I had a great experience and got a great haircut. After having long hair for a few years, it was time to go short, and I gave Alanna free rein to do what she would with my hair. I was a little nervous because with my super thick hair, sometimes short isn't so good, but I can honestly say that this is the first short haircut I have seriously loved. It looks fantastic, super chic and exactly what I would have picked for myself if I'd known how good it would look. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere relaxed but professional, and I was given a lot of good suggestions and tips about how to make the cut look good at home. Will definitely be going back.

Beast Shave in Portland – Yes this is correct the straight edge razor is coming back. Best shave period. For all the dudes who hate shaving this is the way to go. And guess what, its done by a woman which is ten times better then an old man. Maureen who did a wonderful job was amazing and i thank you again. Honestly before for you die I suggest you go and get this done. So go to Headgames and be prepared to fall in love with the straight edge.

Excellent Salon - Ask for Mo – When I moved back to Portland after years in Chicago, I was a little nervous about what the offerings would be like when it came to getting a hair cut. The fine folks at HG have created a great salon with a professional atmosphere. Everyone is super nice, easy going, and great at what they do. Mo gives phenomenal cuts every time. I haven't seen the new location yet, but have heard it's the cat's pajamas. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't yet!

The best haircut of my life! – After years of searching for a salon to tame my curly mane in Maine, I have finally found it! After reading all the glowing reviews here on Citysearch, I finally booked an appointment for a Makeover Haircut with Alanna. I have spent years now trying to grow out my colored hair and let my natural silver come in. It's been a painstaking process, and I went to Alanna in desperation. She convinced me to go short to get rid of much of the brassy, highlighted ends. I told her I was up for that, but I didn't want to look like an old lady. Alanna really listened, and spent a full two hours cutting my hair! The finished style was young and hip, longer in the front, but very short in the back, accentuating my natural curl. The cut is wash-and-wear and still looks good six weeks later. I have lost count of how many compliments I have received on this haircut.

Initially I was planning to go short just to cut off the colored ends, intending to grow it back out as quickly as possible, but the style is so flattering, that I'm now planning to keep the shorter style. Alanna only does Makeover cuts now and then assigns another stylist to maintain the style. Next time I will see Kate, but based on Kate's reviews here, I am confident that I will be just as happy. This salon is more than an hour and a half from my house, but totally worth the long drive. Thank you from one happy customer!

Maureen knows all! – Headgames is the best place in Portland for anything beauty related! Maureen is my stylist and knows exactly how to cut curly hair. She convinced me to go shorter and it turned out so well! It now has tons of bounce and shine. You can go to her with no idea of what you want for a style and she will talk to you and really listen to your needs. She also did my Prom hair and and make-up two years ago. It was the most glamorous I've ever felt! You can tell that everyone at headgames loves to do what they do and are happy to share their knowledge!

Overall, just not impressed – I agree with the person who commented before me. I didn't have a good experience at Head Games. I felt the staff was a definitely a little snobby and the music was so loud there was no way I could relax. I probably won't go back...not worth the money I spent

my happy place – I have been going to head games since I moved to Portland a year and a half ago. I have had a pleasant experience every time I've gone. The people who work there are friendly, welcoming, and warm. I have worked with a few different people including Maureen for waxing (the best waxing experience I've ever had BY FAR (and I'm not just saying that because of the beer I usually down before I go in)), and Jessica and Katherine for hair cuts. My legs and hair have never been happier.

I can't wait to see their new shop, too!!
