Awesome in every way – I have been attending Master Chung's cardio kickboxing class for the past 3 years and I love it more and more. Not only do I get a ridiculous workout, but it differs every day so I never get bored. Master Chung knows my level of experience so he pushes me to do better, and doesn't allow me to cheat myself. I know that I will get the maximum workout each time and still have fun.
As mentioned by a previous reviewer, he does have an accent, but he is still understandable. It also makes the expereince more authentic. Would The Karate Kid been as good if Mr. Miyagi spoke perfect English?
As to the previous reviewer the complained about the contract, learn to read before you sign. When I signed up, Master Chung was very clear about the contract and what I was signing for. He was also very understanding when an injury did not allow me to come to class and he put my account on hold. He is a very reasonable man.
Not only is Master Chung a fantastic teacher, but he truly cares for his students. He notices if you have been absent from class and calls to ensure that you are doing ok. He doesn't have to do that by any standards, as he gets paid whether you attend class or not. This just further reflects his commitment to his students.
Great Master and Person – In deference to the two people that have given Master Chung a bad rating they do not know a great Master when they see one. First, if you are unwilling to do a simple thing like cleaning once a week, then you do not understand the principlesof Tae Kwon Do and do not deserve instruction. Cleaning is a way to show respect for the Master and for the place of training.
Master Chung, does not just teach how to defend yourself, he teaches a way of life. I have had the priviledge of training under Master Chung and is definitely the best that I have seen. I took many martial arts when I was much younger, but have never seen an instructor that is as good as he is.
Master Chung has been a very positive influence on a great number of students, both young and old. I have seen him make literally unbelievable differences in the lives of children by building their confidence and teaching them disclipine and self control. He is exttremely patient, yet teaches students to be confident and respectful of others.
Not only is Master Chung a great instructor, but he also becomes a great friend to those that are open to his friendship. I studied under Master Chung and he will push you, but only so that you will understand what you are capable. I have never seen him push someone beyond their capabilities. He has a number of students that still come back to him when on break from college, even though they have studied with him for a number of years.
Master Chung has become a mentor and dear friend. I am very proud that my son has taken the opportunity to study and learn from Master Chung as I have.
If you want a Master in Tae Kwon Do to teach you or your children you can do no better than to study under Master Chung. He is someone that cares about you and helps you learn. He is there to encourage you. I am proud to say that he is my Tae Kwon Do Master and mentor
Greatest Taekwondo Master: Master Chung – I am a currently student of Master Chung since December 2008 and this is my first Martial Arts school. Master Chung's class have very good positive-impact in my life. First of all, when I was 13 to 16 years old, I am really walking in the wrong direction of my life. All of the bad stuff (alcohol, vices, you name it.) have been changed my life entirely. However, my life started to turn-around when I started to join Master Chung's Taekwondo class. With all of my desperation and sincerity to change myself into a positive way, I am able to never think any negative thoughts in my life again. Through Taekwondo training, I enable myself to develop self-discipline, respect, and especially, to control my life. As the result, I living a healthy life-style and I am currently at the Dean List of Davenport University.
For me, training Taekwondo is about winning over yourself to have an ability to control your spirit, mind, and body. MASTER CHUNG YOU ARE THE BEST!
I have been a student of Master chung for over 5 years, and before that at other schools for 6. i have competed in international tournaments as well as the junior nationals and regional championships. as an experienced taekwondoist i have discovered that Master Chung is one of the greatest teachers in the midwest. not only technically the best (which as i have seen at tournaments over the country, he is one of the best), but he also encourages a strong sense of discipline and responsibility in his students, something that many other martial schools in america lack. As for the "making students clean the school," that is part of the discipline and responsibility, to be responsible to help the school, a school that YOU have used and spread germs in, and a responsibility to help Master Chung, who helps us all in so many ways. Also, Master Chung honestly cares about his students, and calls them if they are sick or in trouble and keeps all of us in his prayers. And as for belt promotion, if a student has not learned all that he or she needs to learn at a belt, than Master Chung does not let that person test. For Master Chung it is all about progress as a Martial artist, not about belts. they are secondary. it is my experiance that it is the American customer who so pushy about belt promotion. Also, concerning prices, Master Chungs prices are on par, if not lower than many other schools, and he does not charge extra for things that should be a part of class, like some instructors. And almost all schools have students sign up for a year, you cant really learn if you want to continue in less time, and Master Chung is very open about that, and about letting people leave, if you are not the person who wants to become serious about the art, than it is almost better that you leave (in my opinion). As for his accent, he is Korean, and Taekwondo is Korean. if one wants to truly learn the art and lifestyle of taekwondo (martial arts are a lifestyle) than one should learn from an experianced instructor from that culture.
I am sorry if i come off strongly about this, but i love master chung and his class, and from all that I have seen ( and i have seen a lot) he is the best, and the previous comments on this page hurt me in my respect for him
Waste of money & time – Completely agree with previous reviewer, has you sign up for classes and unless you read the contract carefully you do not notice it says a one year contract.
He has a very heavy accent which makes it hard to understand his instruction. And last but not least expects the students to clean the facility after class!
TERRIBLE – Master Chung is a disgrace to Martial Arts. He does not teach properly and his only goal is to make a profit hence charging way over the average for any martial arts in the community. I have spend several months there and regret it deeply, he cons you into a contract which he does not let u break.
