Greasy! – My husband and I went to Tom's Oyster Bar in downtown Detroit for dinner. I had the Sauteed Yellow Lake Perch and he had the Seafood Boiullabasse. We also got a sampler appetizer. The appetizer was just OK, but the perch was gross and soaked with butter. Even the vegetables and red skin potatoes were shining so bad from all that butter. I ate some of it because I was hungry but I felt sick the rest of the night. The Boiullabasse was OK but nothing to be crazy about. The atmosphere was quiet, and there were too many flies than there should be at a restaurant. I didn't enjoy that place at all and would never consider going back.
The place to indulge a craving for raw oysters and other finny species. – In Short
Much like the other Tom's in this successful seafood chain, the decor is replete with dark wood, stamped tin ceiling and framed covers of the 1920s-era Yachtman's Magazine. Start with various raw oysters, or smoked mackerel and trout, bluefish and salmon pate, calamari, oysters Rockefeller, ginger and Cajun shrimp. The couple dozen fish and seafood selections all arrive fresh. Steak and chicken also available.
