Food: 4.5 / 5; Service 3 / 5. The food on our recent visit (12/31/2011) to Bacco was mostly very good. Filet mignon, salmon and lamb chomps were all very good. The seafood pasta, however, tasted like boxed pasta. For the prices being charged, we expect homemade. If it was homemade, it was disappointing. The salads were very good with the only complaint about that course was the "tower" salad had a LOT of tomatoes. Desserts were very good. The service was overwhelming and sporadic. We had barely sat down when we were swarmed by no less than 4 people. One to place the napkin in our lap, the waiter and 2 others who...I'm not sure what they were there for! The most notable service problems: part of our party had their order taken and then the waiter walked away (this happened twice); servers reached over one person to serve another person; server seemed more interested in the neighboring table than us. Reaching over guests may not be too big of a deal except that one time was during coffee service and passing a cup of coffee to a guest and expecting them to handle it is not a move appropriate for a restaurant striving to be at the level of Bacco. I don't mind a waiter giving attention to other guests, but I do mind when my service suffers while he banters away with them. I don't know that I'll go back as the prices were a bit high for the entire combination of food and service.

Beware the cold whipped potatoes. The sausage/gorgonzola/carmelized onion app was excellent and the gnocchi/lamb ragu was even better. You can imagine the let down when the main course (Piemontese strip--done "Pittsburgh") came and the potatoes were cold. We told the waiter and another small plate appeared in a few minutes--again cold. The waiter explained "This is how the chef thinks they should be eaten." Wine list if overpriced. So-so atmosphere, but several other patrons seemed to be regulars so there must be something sorely lacking on my night. Will not be giving Bacco a second look, however.

Good Experience. I found the food had good presentation, the service decent (our waiter had a very difficult accent to understand though), & I felt he was very knowledgable about their wine selection as well. We made reservations there to celebrate a special occasion & being it had been recommended by Hour magazine, we made the hour & a half drive. I honestly don't feel it was worth the price - I've had better meals for much less, however, it was still good food. After being moved from our original table to accomodate a larger group, we did get stuck with the table next to this huge flower arrangement that was placed in the middle of the restaurant and had to keep battling w/ flowers sticking me in the head. I was also surprised at how small the dining area is, you really felt crammed in with our neighboring table being less than 2 inches away from our table. This must be especially the case on a Saturday night, which was very busy. If you live close, it might be nice for a special occasion, but it's not worth the drive to me.

Prepare for a Bacchanalian feast of wine, food and fine service at this popular Italian restaurant.. In Short
Dining at Bacco is like taking a tour of Italy without leaving home. Owners Luciano and Monica Del Signore create a festive mood with a wine-inspired decor punctuated by lively ceiling murals and prints. It's a fitting theme as Bacco's wine list tops 500 vintages. Signature entrees include the pan-roasted sea bass, or tender, hand-made pasta topped with Palamino sauce or a meaty Bolognese. Large parties are welcome, and catering is available.

My favorite meal in Michigan.... Bacco has likely become my favorite meal in Michigan (since Tribute changed chefs). Apparently I'm not the only one to think this way as it can often be difficult to get a table here. Most everything on the menu is outstanding; the scallop appetizer is simply the most delicious presentation of scallops I've ever had, their pastas are brilliant, and their meats are perfectly prepared and balanced. Service here is also outstanding - friendly and knowledgeable staff make sure you're always well tended too, as does their sommalier, Matt, who knows their extensive wine list inside and out. Only low points are very crowded seating (you will know your neighbors before meal end) and fish main courses, which we've found to be OK at best.

Turnaround. Approximately two years ago I met friends on three different occasions at Bacco's, and considering the amount of money we spent, I was extremely disappointed. Recently, however, customers coaxed me into returning, and there was absolutely no comparison between the earlier experiences. Each of the six courses we had were new discoveries in fine dining, and the staff was exceptionally well-versed in matching the dish with the vino. If you believed Takashi Yagihashi (now departed from Tribute) was the best thing to happen to Detroit eight years ago, you're going to love this place......

Good food, horrible service. My friends recommended Bacco but said the service was spotty. Mine was horrible. The waiter mixed up my order twice and was rude to my face. When I said something to him I could see him in near the kitchen, joking with the other waiters and looking at our table. When I shared this story with co-workers, they also said their waiter was rude. Too bad - the food was good.

Great Experience. We recently had dinner here for my birthday. The service was superb and the waiter suggested sharing two of the pastas and a risotto for an appetizer. The pastas were literally some of the best I have ever tasted. Surprisingly the restuarant was very crowded for a Wednesday. The only drawback to this restuarant is that the dining room is relatively small and the tables are set very close together.

Can't get enough of it!. I think Bacco is superb! The service is excellent, the food is beyond excellent, the atmosphere is relaxing & not uptight. Occasionally Luciano the owner/chef makes appearances in the dinning room to check on his guests. Some of his meats & other ingredients are shipped in directly from Italy, which believe it or not it does make a difference in taste. I live in Chicago but grew up in Detroit, this is my family's favorite place to dine when we all get together. It's a must try, and I am a little upset that it's not on best Italian restaurants voting list but Olive Garden is?? Give me a break........
