Go See Shelly!!! – I always cut my own hair and I finally decided the back was getting too choppey and needed it cleaned up, my friend Jen recommended Shelly because she did a really cool funky cut on her and a really cool color and cut on her other friend. I decided to call moXie because I chopped my hair to bits on my own and the problem was that I wanted to keep my length. I was put off a little when I saw her because she looks crazy funky but she nailed my blonde foils and girly hair cut (which is crazy considering what it looked like beforehand.) I love her, I will definately be back!
the walls and the "experience" have gone grey – moxie used to be my home away from home. it huslted and bustled. the walls were orange. i could drink my weight in free coffee and no one looked down on me. i could have my "soccer mom" do with highlights and read cheap gossip rags and chat up a whole array of bright young fun things while my color cooked.
but its all gone now. the walls, floor, ceilings-EVERYTHING is grey. even the lighting casts an unflattering sallow tone of everyone, like a fitting room at kmart. the stylists tell you to only "whisper" and you're left alone while your color cooks. my last stylist made a face when i explained my "soccer mom flip bubble bob" to her. my last stylist also said " i hope this works" when she put my color on! i thought they did full on training there!
in short, this salon embodies nothing that it did 1 year ago, the regular staff has left and it's like moxie is trying to become some uber snob NYC salon. i'm moving on to another salon....
also, its pretty obvious the salon has been reviewing itself below.
Moxie has lost its moxie – What used to be a fun, exciting, and warm place to go for hair services is now more like a Cost Cutters with a fancy name and new paint job. Most of the talented, long term staff have recently left the salon as have most of the long term clients. What remains is a cold atmosphere with not so skilled hairdressing and bad attitude. I found their attitude to be rude to the point of being offensive. Poor management and a profit first agenda has led to the decline of this place. Beware before you try out this place! On the other hand, don't waste your time.
Ashley is the best! – I just went to Moxie for the first time and got my haircut with Ashley. I was looking to do something fun and new with a little "Moxie". She had some great ideas and has given me the best haircut of my life!
Consistent, consistent, consistent! – I almost had a breakdown when I found out my stylist of many years from Moxie had moved on. I was apprehensive about trying a new stylist. I made an appointment with Maria for color and she nailed it. She had my color formula on record and it was exactly want I wanted. I have been back many times and we have even mixed it up a little. Great colorist! Great Service!
Best Experience Ever! See Nicole! – I just moved here from CA and have tried several salons and then found Moxie. They did something that the other salons didn't, they gave me a great experience. I saw Nicole and she was amazing! She listened to my needs and had great suggestions. She also gave me "7 minutes of Heaven", a complimentary hot towel and scalp massage that truly was heaven. I just couldn't believe all the attention I got. I also found on their website, moxiesalon, a great deal for all new clients. If you haven't checked it out yet, it's a must.
try something new, they'll make it work – I'm cheap. Oh, and impulsive. So when my best friend who has been cutting my hair for the past few years moved to Bermuda, and I was struck by the drunken decision to cut off most of my hair one night at a party, I had no qualms about having another drunk girl chop off my ponytail. After a week or so I decided I looked 12 and wondered into Moxie to set up an appointment with the first girl who was available. Luckily it was Missy. I went from having hair mid-boob to a choppy bob to a pixie cut and it's my favorite look I've ever had. I really hate small talk, and most people in this industry have a dorky, fake air to them. But she maintained fun, interested conversation without making me feel less confident in those scissors. I'm excited to hopefully go blonde for the first time for a Jean Seberg look. It's not free like my Bermudian friend, but compared to a few years ago when I went to Adevia, it leaves plenty of money in your pocket for an appropriate tip for great service.
I like this place – For about 2 years I have been going to this place on a regular basis. Besides the fact that tastes differ, and not every stylist is for everyone, I can definitely recommend going here. I mostly had appointments with Angela, and I was always satisfied, and many times I was even really happy with the haircut I got (considering my vanity this is hard to achieve). Angela is competent and works very accurately, understands what you want, and above all has very good taste.
Great staff, amazing coffee, scalp massages, and a funky atmosphere!! – I've been going to Moxie for about 6 months now, and have always seen Stephen. Stephen really understands what I have to say about my hair, and I have never had a stylist that gives me such great confidence as I leave the salon. The front desk is always very helpful in booking appointments and scheduling, The staff around us is always VERY professional, and they all look like they are having a good time. Everyone is chatting and laughing at what we're all saying. I feel like it's a night on the town when I go to Moxie. The music is great, and so is the atmosphere. I feel comfortable there. Stephen's assistants are always very helpful and professional, and they always look bouncy and full of energy. I would recomend anyone to Moxie salon, my kids, my grandkids, my best girlfriends, even my husband!!!!!! Go to moxie salon, you will not be dissapointed.
Missy is Great! – I too would highly recommend to go to Missy, she's really great and always listens to suggestions and concerns. The atmosphere is welcoming and hip and all the stylists seem very knowledgeable about what they are doing. Missy even fixed a 100$ haircut from an aveda salon for a quarter of the price. I have been going there for years and will not go anywhere else!
