Where's the fish – My wife and I recently dined at Kamehachi in Northbrook, and we left just shocked and confused. We have been dinning at the restaurant for the last seven years, and besides the pricey sushi we were always happy with the environment and food quality. I understand that the economy is soft, but come on?what happened to the fish? We ordered a spider roll, turtle roll, shrimp tempura roll and a dragon roll. Half the pieces had a little tiny piece of fish/shrimp and some didn?t have anything besides fried batter in the middle. The sake was good however, but the food was absolutely awful, we spent $100 for five rice rolls. I hope that management makes some changes, and becomes more generous with the sushi.

Horrible sushi but great service – I am a big fan of Chicago sushi places like Bluefin, Coast, and Tsunami and I have seen great reviews for Kamehachi (probably one of the only few places I have not tried yet) and always wanted to stop by. Well, after spending some time shopping at Northbrook Court one afternoon, my best friend and I decided to skip our usual suburban sushi solution, Sushi Kaya in Skokie, and just head to Kamehachi that was just minutes away from the mall.

Seeing the lovely interior of the place and having heard about it, we walked in with great expectations but left with unsatisfied tastebuds.

I have been to most of the sushi places in Chicago and certainly to a great number of them in the suburs and Never have I been so DISAPPOINTED. We ordered miso soups, and four maki rolls: the green turtle, the tempura shrimp, the special salmon, and the sunset roll. The only thing we ended up liking was the miso soup. All of the rolls had very litttle fish and lots of rice, making the pieces very big. The combinations of ingredients tasted awkward and were very unpleasant. We felt like someone just mindlessly added anything he/she had available in the kitchen to make the maki roll, no matter how horrible the combinations might be.The roll that we could at least put up with, the Green Turtle maki, was still pretty bad comparing to even the most basic roll at a place like Bluefin. After the meal I thought the few pieces I ate were going to come back up.

We left the place regretting even going in.

On the plus side, the service was nearly impeccable. Our server was probably the nicest, most polite and professional server I've ever had. Too bad the food is horrible. By far, the worst sushi I've had! Please do not waste your money on this place if you want classy, quality maki that have lots of fish, little rice, fit into your mouth, actually taste good and don't give you the urge to puke(now there's an idea!)

How can a place like this have great reviews? That is beyond my understanding.

Wonderful – For sushi it just don't get better than this. Even better made sushi than most places i've been to in Japan.

One of the best Sushi places in Northern Burbs – Excellent service and wonderful sushi. The menu is packed with sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese entrees. Service is friendly and helpful for those not familiar with Japanese cuisine.

Before it was hip to eat sushi, this place was already happening. – In Short
The expansive menu offers a hefty selection of maki and combination rolls, from spicy tuna maki to Chicago Crazy Roll, a tasty mouthful of yellowtail, tuna and fresh salmon. Other must-try items include soft-shell crab, edamame, cold green-tea noodles and broiled, salt-encrusted clams with lemon-soy dipping sauce.
