Wonderful local bar with delicious bloody mary's! – This is one of my new favorite bars in St. Louis. It is kind of small but they have a new back room with couches and tables which is great. The Bloody Mary?s are amazing... best I've ever had. The atmosphere is relaxed, the people are fun, and it is very clean. I love the bartenders because they are fast, friendly, and know their stuff.... and their stuff is GOOD. Go here.
Great bartenders, Fantastic martinis, Cigar friendly – The Famous Bar is one of those overlooked, forgotten holes in the wall where an adult can go for a drink early after work, unwind to a delicious Bombay Sapphire martini, smoke a good cigar, and listen to some great music selected by the bartenders - blues, jazz, etc. before the young trendy crowd comes in and takes over. I highly recommend Steve the bartender make your drink. He has made it into an artform, and in a drink style of culinary perfecto, something delicious and smooth. This is an old school bar with a feel of a 1930's movie, and not an in your face 'ooh look at me' kind of drink haunt. Afternoons 3pm to approx 6pm on weekdays are quiet with a few regulars and some new faces, but overall it IS the best place in St Louis for martinis, AND sinfully wonderful bloody marys. Non-smokers beware however, it can get cloudy towards the evening. This is a good smoker's bar. Service is impeccable and prompt, and parking can be problematic if you arrive too late. For unwinding after work, there is no substitute for the Famous Bar.
Really great – This place really is pretty good for most purposes. I would stay away in the late morning but other than that I would recommend it!
Avoid anytime after 7:00 pm on all days! – This bar used to be sooo cool! But now avoid at all cost. It is the smokiest bar in the city, and now they have covered the doors with plastic so no fresh air can come in. When I first moved to St. Louis I was a regular of this place, and I will never say anything bad about the drinks, but I will speak poorly of the clientel. If you want to visit a bar where giggly little girls and their loud obnoxious boyfriends discover what it means to drink too many martini's this is the place. This place not only has lost it's appeal as a nice place to have a drink it has attracted all the obnoxious wanna be's from county.
Martini Lover's Paradise – The best martini I ever had was at this bar. And all the bartenders & staff are so friendly. It's a great place to have drinks after work. So everyone must check this place out. And try the Slutty Girlscout Martini, it's a regular favorite.
Shabby dive bar-meets-swanky martini joint at this South City standard. – In Short
Famous Bar is an anomaly: half blue-collar, half silver spoon. This crusty hole-in-the-wall manages to attract an eclectic assortment of revelers each weekend. The long, dark bar opens up at the back to accommodate additional seating and pool tables, but it's standing-room-only when a band is performing. Bloody mary lovers, be sure to check out the extensive list that includes the Caesar, made with fresh clam juice and Cajun spice.
great little diva dive – Looks like a hole in the wall, but their chalkboard drink menus are out of this world. If you're a bloody mary or martini fan, you're in heaven. It can get very crowded on weekends, but I recommend going early and chatting with the cute and fun barstaff, or trying a weeknight.
