Best American Cuisine in Midtown! Amazing Sliders! – Wow! I spotted Cinema off of 5th Avenue and 45th Street when I was in the mood for a hamburger. It is a hidden treasure! The sliders are fantastic! I had the Kobe Sliders, but my friends had the Turkey and Crab Cake. The drinks are great too! I loved the staff. They were super friendly and the ambiance was warm and modern. I can't wait to come back and try more sliders! I would strongly recommend for lunch or dinner. It was really fast and delicious! Great value!
Great for late lunch, after-work – One of my co-workers introduced me to Cinema sometime in 2007. Since then, I've brought a few of my own friends and colleagues here as well, and they all like the place.
Since it's Midtown, it gets packed around lunchtime (12-1:30 PM) on weekdays. Unless you want to spend half of your lunch break waiting for a table, I'd suggest having a snack at the office and wait until two o'clock. It's a good spot to meet up with friends after work too, since it's not too crowded then (came here around 6 PM on a Friday).
Every time I come here, I get the bacon-wrapped turkey burger or the teriyaki-glazed tuna burger. They are just THAT good. Each order comprises two sliders and a salad or fries. The grilled shrimp sandwich is great too. The popcorn shrimp appetizer was, but it had more batter than shrimp. Still, I like Cinema enough to forgive them for that.
The atmosphere is great--bright, lively, but not too loud. The tables are well-spaced and not cramped together like some places. I need to come back and try their other menu items...after I get my burger fix.
Worst Experience! – Went for lunch with 5 people (one on crutches). We tried making reservations, but found out that they don't accept them between 12-2 and would NOT make an exception, even though a member of our party is on crutches. This should have been our first clue to stay away. When we arrived, we were originally told the wait was 10 minutes, which then became 20 and quickly 30. Tables opened up outside and we were told we could sit there. Before we could sit down, our table was given away to people that had arrived after us. When we brought this to the hostess' attention she pretty much shrugged it off. We asked to speak to the manager and were told "No". The hostess was incredibly rude and obnoxious (and as we found out, the owner's daughter). It's evident that your business is not appreciated or really wanted. I would highly suggest going somewhere (anywhere) else ; especially if you want to be treated with some respect.
BEWARE - do not bring parties of more than 4 !!!! – Great little hangout spot, most times overlooked. However, BEWARE - Brought a bunch of co-workers (party of 16-20) and they could not seat us or accomodate us in any way.
Definately not a pub-bar space for large groups...they are really rude and strict about "obtructing the way".
Extremely rude and was embarassed that I recomended the place.
However, after all that fuss, we managed to get split up 3 tables - and the food was not bad. Good fries, good pizza. Martini's / cocktails were different, and very strong vodka - pretty decent drinks.
I would definately recommend this place for a small intimate group or a date.
Think drinks and small appetizers.
Editorial Review by Marcella Veneziale – Outdoor dining a stone's throw from Grand Central, this spot serves generous portions of specialty sandwiches and brews like apricot beer.
Seriously bad food; waste of a pretty space – The area is desperate for a beautiful, affordable, fun place. Which explains why I kept eating there despite the AWFUL food. The grilled shrimp is overcooked and not fresh. Avoid the defrosted dim sum, bland quesadilla, flimsy chicken-pot-pie, and inconsistent pastas, sometimes so salty it burns. The sliders are decent and fries are delicious, as is the short rib pizza, but I fear this restaurant may go belly up if it doesn't get a new chef soon!
Definitely A Great Gathering Spot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – I enjoy this place! I am not sure of one of the previous reviews in regards to the food. The martinis are reasonably priced, esp. for Midtown. The lobster rolls are great, and the lobster ravioli as well as the short rib beef and mushroom pizza is a must try. The whole atmosphere is fun! It is definitely a great gathering place for your friends or your significant other during happy hour. I can not imagine, who would not love this place. It is gorgeous inside and the service is top notch! You can not go wrong on any of the food or the drinks. They have some unique beer imports that are incredible!!!
Wonderful new facelift inside and on food and service – Wow This place has been transformed so much it now looks like something that should be in "The Meat Packing District" rather than in midtown. The new cocktail list and food menu has been given a complete overhaul from the previous years, and the service and moved upwards that way too. I always find it so nice when you don't quite know what to order, when your server gently guides through your choices and makes choice of items for you. This place has made a big step up from old days of a Cafe to a great place to have fun, food and great cocktails(Wow and these are great what a fantastic selection on the martini list and great happy hour prices too....Where can you find a martini in midtown for $6). Well done guys on transforming this place from an o.k. joint to a fun, hip, RESTAURANT.
Food disappointed; Service more disappointed – Dinner was very disappointing. I ordered two appetizers, thinking it'd be enough. It was not. The lobster ravioli appetizer had two, yes, two pieces. After I complained that I had NO idea it'd be this small to the manager, she didn't apologize and offer to replace it. Instead, she said it was already made, that I could pack it home and order something else. She expected me to pay even though it was not what I expected or accurately described on the menu. At other restaurants, they've would've replaced with no questions. The ravioli itself was hard, not even good. The quality of service nor food was certainly not worth the higher prices. It just made the rest of the night unpleasant. Though the food was OK, the fact that the manager didn't understand good customer service made the food worse.
Great Experience – It was such a wonderfull dinning experience. Thanks to all the great people who work there.
