one of the best sushi bars in portland – Sin Ju is definitely high-end, it's not for those watching their budget. That said, you get what you pay for. The sushi is reliably excellent and the service is unfailingly polite, if a little slow (when is it not at sushi?) They have a great selection of sake (again, a little on the pricy side) however if you are looking for a solid comparison to Yokos without the wait and on the west side, this is it.

BEST SUSHI – I'm addicted to this place. My husband and I eat here about once a week it is a bit expensive but worth every penny. They have the best tempura i have ever tasted. We have had a couple bad service experiences but the quality keeps us coming back. I tried to step outside the box and eat at another popular portland sushi restaurants "east" hint hint side location but it was terrible. I wont stray again. I suggest the las vegas roll or the yummy crunch!

Lack of Class – I have been to Sin Ju several times over the last year. After having some exceptionally fresh tuna there about a year ago, I haven't gone to sushi anywhere else and frequently make the hour drive to Sin Ju. So when my birthday rolled around, of course I called for reservations. We showed up on time and service was a little slow, food was okay, and the waitress was hesitant when we asked for recommendations from the menu. We had been there about an hour but had just received our food about 20 minutes prior when the check was dropped off. I thought it a little strange but it was later and business was starting to pick up. We went ahead and paid the $100+ bill. We had, no exaggeration, about a 1/3rd of our cocktails left in our glasses and the hostess came and asked us to move!! She offered us a cramped table in the back of the room but said she needed our table for other guests. What?? We certainly weren't going to move to another table just for 3 minutes to finish our drinks. We walked out dumbfounded that what we thought was a decent restaurant would have the gall to do such a thing. Not a great way for my birthday dinner to end......I will NEVER go back to Sin Ju. Not because of the mediocre service, over priced food, or the outdated 80's decor but because I have never been so offended or seen such low class service!!

A trip to boring town! – Dinner at Sinju was lack luster. The preparation and care when making rolls looked thrown together and it was mediocre. We were sat in the back with a large table of rowdy suburbanites who didn't even know what tempura was. (They shouted "what in the heck is this??!) For a place that claims to be so high scale I would like to see them offer more traditional items and more traditional. Our servicer and most of the servers there were annoying. The waitress reached over me while I was eating my maguro nigiri to pick up my chopstick wrapper. Like it couldn't wait?!! Not worth the time or the money. I will stick to Japantown in SF.

OK – The restaurant it self looks authentic. But the foods they serve are as not as much. I had a sushi dinner the other day. Miso soup was good. But sushi was not as good as I expected. Besides, there were some fish that I could not even tell what they were. For the price they charge, at least they should provide real wasabi and Green tea. Those who have had real Japanese sushi and foods may be disappointed.

Worst sushi and service – I called in, 45 minutes before closing 9:30, and was somewhat discourage to come in. Was looked at funny, as I obviously am not the snooty pearl type, and had incredibly poor service. After I ordered, my salmon appetizer showed up, and I experienced the first warm sashimi, I had ever had. It was warmer than room temperature. Out of 5 or 6 slices, the last, which had been covered by the rest, was the only one than had any coolness to it at all. The ahi was dry, and far from mouth watering. I half expected the fake attitudes, but not really to feel bad service, long wait on the food- not good food, by any means, and then to finish it off, to feel rushed out the door- all before 9:30 pm. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, period.

should have believed all the negative reviews – i've been to literally hundreds of sushi restaurants - high end and also your ma and pa joints - all over the country. i read the reviews on this place and most were good, but i should have just read all the bad reviews as a sign of skipping out on the place. service was below average, sushi was below average, rolls were worse than your sushi belt restaurant, and the price was bigger than i was willing to pay for the taste. i don't mind price for good sushi, but this place was not worth it. if you're craving good sushi, DON'T come here. the only pro was the ambiance.

BEST SUSHI IN PORTLAND – I have been to some of the best of the best, like Kona Grill and Ra in Scottsdale, the restaurant at the Grand Wailea in Maui, and more. Sin Ju is amazing. The ahi tower is to die for, a little pricey and has gotten a little smaller, but I still order it everytime. The yummy yummy crunch, the rainbow and all spicy rolls are delish. The drinks are strong and Sin Ju has a fun ambience at Bridgeport location and Pearl. This is the only sushi I eat in Portland now after being disappointed by many many others.

Avoid this Fake Place – The restaurant is not worth the money. Poor service. They do not appreciate their customers. Our service was slow and the spicy tuna was not the best either. We thought that because of the traditional looking tatami mats, the food would be traditional Japanese as well, but we were wrong. It says a lot if the owners are not Japanese, nor the staff, nor any of the customers. Big mistake. Look somewhere else.

Not authentic and horrible employer! – Some of the sushi is good, but they portions are a little on the small size for what you are paying. Food on the menu is not authentic Japanese either, and again, overpriced. The worst thing about Sinju is the ownership. As someone who has worked there in the past, I think it is important for people to know employees here are treated extremely poorly, to the point where they are yelled at daily, have shifts taken away for missing a grain of rice on the floor when vacuuming tatami rooms, and I have even had my hand slapped by the owner. Don't think they won't be rude to customers as well! If it is important to you to support GOOD local business, pass this one by!
