Indian Garden in Devon has a new chef! – Just finished watching the cubs vs padres. Good game but not as good as the food I ate tonight at the Indian Garden. Ordered the Indian Garden Dinner Special, $21 per head you get to sample the best of what they have to offer (lamb, chicken, fish, veg). The portions are big that we only ordered for 2 people and fed 2 adults and 2 children (4 and 6). We even got to bring some home. I was there last month and noticed how big the difference in taste was so I asked our host if they had a new chef or rotated chefs. As it turns out they did change chefs recently. The host as it turns out was also the owner so we even got to meet the chef. Wonderful staff and the owner was so nice to us (not bad considering I look like a gardener). I've been coming to this place for years but this was my first time meeting the owner. I was very impressed how he handled the guests. Thanks again to that nice owner and for letting me use my NPR member card to get discount on our dinner!

good food, but way too pricy – I was driving on Devon and stopped to get some food to take home. As soon as i walked in the door, the first thing i was asked was if i was looking for a job, which i did not like at all. Then the guy who took my order seemed to be a racist, the whole time talking bad about other people, fist about Hispanics, then when i said i was Mexican he talked about other races. I ordered the chicken makhani and the lamb dingsi, both had very good flavor, but the portions were extremely small for the price. I mean their food cost most be 10% serving those portions. I'm a professional chef so i know what i'm talking about. I don't know if the portions were that small because that was the only container size they had, but it was bad . I also ordered i side of rice and naan, naan was good, the rice was not in the bag. so it was a terrible experience for me. won't ever go back, there are better Indian restaurants on Devon.

A delightful taste of India – I've been to several Indian restaurants in different cities and I have to say that the Indian Garden is one of the best! I love that they have an extensive menu selection. I can bring my vegetarian friends along with my non vegetarian friends and can be assured that we'll all have some dish or drink that we'll enjoy over long talks and leisurely indian teas. oh, and their Chicken Massala is a must-have! Definitely one of my faves and I'll be sure to order this next time I come for a long pleasant lunch.

Not a good experience – I have traveled around the country and have been a great fan of the Indian cuisine, I have tried the food at the Indian Garden and was greatly disappointed. The food has no flavor just full of cream and a bland taste and the servers were pushy and very aggressive. If you want a good meal without people hassling you please don't try this place.

Best on Devon Avenue – The tasteful decor, the excellent service, and especially the FOOD make Indian Garden one of my favorite restaurants for a long, conversational lunch or a romantic dinner. The samosas are the best anywhere, and every dish I've ever tried has become my favorite. It might be difficult to choose between the many restaurants on Devon, but Indian Garden stands out for its friendliness, consistency, and quality.

Worth the traffic – This place had gone downhill under the old owners. However, new ownership took over in September of 2007. And what a difference they're making.

The new owner, Maria, had been the longtime manager of the Indian Garden on Ontario (downtown). She and Alex (bartender/manager) have worked hard to make this the place to stop on Devon. We've been there 4 times since the new ownership has taken over and it gets better every time. Give Maria and Alex a couple more months and this will be the place to stop on Devon.

Whether for takeout or dining in, this quiet, comfortable Indian spot is up there with Devon Avenue's best. – The Scene
If you're not familiar with Devon Avenue dining, Indian Garden is a good place to start. With four locations around the city, they're used to dealing with non-natives, and service is friendly and patient. The room is narrow and bright, with yellow walls and exotic prints and paintings. The crowd is a subdued mix of locals and visitors craving curry.

The Food
Indian Garden's extensive menu abounds with classics for vegetarians and carnivores alike--hearty, filling samosas stuffed with potatoes and green peas; vegetable fritter pakora; and lamb, chicken and seafood specialties whose flavors range from subtle to seriously hot. Chicken tikka masala is pleasantly mild, chunks of chicken folded into a creamy tomato sauce. Like spicy? Try the lamb or chicken vindaloo, but beware--the menu calls its sauce "fiery," and that's an understatement. Cool off your mouth not with water, but with a big hunk of naan.
