The bakery that launched a thousand imitators: Tartine has been churning out butter-heavy, truly perfect croissants and those widely copied morning buns for years. Lines down the sidewalk are just part of the daily experience.

It's a rare bakery that's so good, you feel nothing but gratitude after upwards of a half hour in line. My musts are the chocolate croissant, quiche, lemon tartlet, chocolate eclair and fromage blanc Bavarian.

Tartine is a must-visit when taking a trip to San Francisco. It's a super famous bakery and their fame is with good reason. The baked goods are beautiful, fresh and delicious, and their sandwiches make it a perfect place for lunch.

If you can tough through the line, the croissants are sublime. And the bread that hits the shelves at 5 pm each day is worth the wait.

They may be most well know for their Morning Bun, but don't forget all the other carb creations for the offering. Sandwiches are generous, so share one and leave room for extra dessert.

Best Everything – It amazes me that Tartine gets any bad reviews. I have been going there for over 2 years and never had a complaint. Yes, the line is long sometimes but its worth it. The set up isn't confusing if you have a brain that works and the service is great in my opinion.

Coco Nib Meringue – Drawn by the busy store front early Saturday evening (~7:00 pm), I squeezed into Tartine to catch a glimpse of their display case. As a pre-dinner morsel, I purchased one coco nib meringue for 40 cents. The girl behind the counter seemed a bit spaced out (I was lucky to only have to repeat my order once), but the line moved quickly and I was on my merry way within five minutes, coco nib meringue in hand.

I was impressed with the meringue: it was clean, pleasantly sized (about the size of a chicken egg), and held its structure. The texture was perfect - stiff on the outside and chewy-but-not-wet inside. The coco nibs were an excellent and creative addition, since they added both a gritty chewiness and a strong cocoa taste that covers up the raw egg taste you sometimes get with meringues. The longer you chewed, the more flavor came from the coco nibs. This cookie has inspired a new affection for meringues! (And new ideas on what one can do with coco nibs!)

Love at the first try! – Love this place. I don't mind the long line and waiting for open table. The Shitake Croque Monsieur is delicious---perfect combination of moist juicy mushroom and sweet sundried tomatoes. A big fan of the almond rocher ....light, crispy on the outside and gooey in the inside with tons of sliced almonds. Banana cream pie is always a crowd's favorite. Tartine's coffee is no sissy coffee either---strong flavorful coffee. Great place to relax and hang out with friends.

One of the best small bakeries in town.... – The deserts here are amazing. Also, be sure to visit this place in the morning for the ham and cheese crossiants, morning buns and some of the best coffee you have ever tasted. You will have to stand in a line but it's worth it.

Adorable yummy bakery! – This place is so cute and delicious. Despite the long lines, it's worth the wait for a big latte bowl and a morning bun. Bread pudding is also amazing. I would avoid the chocolate eclair, a little dark for my taste.

My favorite SF bakery – J'adore Tartine! If there is a line out the door, it for good reason. I usually go in the morning (er ok afternoon) for breakfast. Props for the veggie quiche. I also picked up an olive bread for a picnic and it got rave reviews. I've had all their croissants - when they're good, they're very good but inexplicably I've been there when they were burned on top and ohhh what a letdown. The morning buns are cinnamon, sugar, orange infused deliciousness. They also have open faced sandwiches which look great and seductive looking desserts that I have yet to try. Seating is limited so usually I just get my goodies to go. Bon Appetit!

Fabulous Bakery – Of course, you know by now that this is a wonderful bakery. Everyone knows it! Just don't go there for the first time on the weekend - I don't know how everyone has the patience to wait on the inevitably long line. Practically anytime during the week is better. And if you don't have a 9-5, go during those hours, chances are you'll avoid a line and may even be able to snag a table - a near impossibility on the weekends. But probably not the best place to read and write if you're looking for something more like a sanctuary coffee house - even at its quietest, there's always a lot going on around you, because it's a small space. That being said, wonderful baked goods! Anything and everything is good! I recommend the traditional plain croissant. (The chocolate in the chocolate croissant doesn't go all the way through.) Wonderful bread. I love their teas. I am personally not a fan of the hot-pressed sandwich, but others are ... I'd like to see them offer another kind of sandwich. Go visit - there is definitely something here for everyone's sweet tooth.

Get the creamy lemon tart!! – Tartine used to be the Bay Village Bakery in Mill Valley, where I live. The day it moved out of our little town was a sad sad day I'll never forget. Once a week I would visit that lovely bakery, and treat myself to something--anything--utterly delicious. Finally, I have found it reborn in Tartine. I read all the reviews here and am astounded--astounded!!--that nobody has mentioned the creamy lemon tart. I'm a devoted chocoholic, and yet I dream of this dessert more than any other sweet treat I've ever had. Mmmmm..... Do yourself a favor and get over to Tartine. The only downside is all other bakeries will pale by comparison, and you will forever be disapointed by a scone or gougiere or croissant from just about anywhere else.
