The brunch is beautiful, and has lots of colorful, vibrant salad, so don't think it's just another bakery! The full cocktail menu is available, and the dining room is gorgeous!
1886 Cafe is the little bakery/restaurant inside The Driskill, and that alone is pretty fun -- I always feel like a senator's wife or something eating there. But anyway, 1886 serves classic desserts, nothing crazy -- chocolate cake, banana pudding, etc. -- but I'd like to direct your attention to the classic, Granny Smith apple-filled, oat streusel-covered apple pie, which has probably been used as a bartering tool in secret legislative meetings.
Great salad – My Husband & I ate lunch there yesterday & were not that impressed. I had the mixed green salad with chicken which was good. My Husband had the french dip thinking that the Driskill would have some of the best prime roast beef in the city. Not the case though: ( Maybe this place should stick to being a bakery & not a cafe? Just saying.. you be the judge but we have way better places in Austin for lunch!
Great Cinnamon Roll and Illy coffee – Just wanted to try a new place for a pastry and espresso. The cinnamon roll is actually out of croissant dough-- at least it tastes that way. Yummy! And Illy coffee is always a nice treat. If you are going to dish out a few bucks at the chain across the street... Don't. Just fork out a dollar or two more and get something made in house at the 1886 Bakery!
Worst Customer Service In Austin!!!! – I used to live over in the Brazos lofts across the street from this place. I loved the food, but I never will go back because of the repeatly rude service. Maybe because I am young and appear to not have " money" the servers where awful. If you eat here take it to go!
A classic hotel's restaurant offers a fresh take on classic cafe fare, while world-class desserts complete the experience. – In Short
Inside The Driskill's lobby is a more subtle cafe with 1920s hexagonal-tile floor. Sophisticated details include cherrywood accents, etched glass, art deco-style chandeliers, copper salt-and-pepper shakers and fresh flowers. Baked goods are prominently displayed near the entrance. Choose from the quiet atmosphere inside or a comfortable patio. The menu features pastas and comfort food like meat loaf and burgers with skin-on fries. Organic breads made daily include kalamata olive and Serrano cheddar.
Tasty Ceasar Salad--done right; recommend breakfast too – The ceasar with salmon or chicken is really quite good - kinda perfect. Have enjoyed a tasty egg and pancake breakfast too.
Cold Coffee – This place is an awesome choice to have a sober hang-out at 6th street. Valet parking at Driskill is reasonable-$10 bucks if you don't want to hassled looking for a parking space.
Cakes are not too spectacular and the coffee is lukewarm. Very disappointing and bizarre!
Customer service is good. That makes up for the coffee's temperature.
Elegance at its finest – The menu changes daily, but the specials are savory. The iced tea is flavored with peach...or was it apricot? One of those two, but a treat nonetheless. The BLT sandwhich is to die for, as well as the elborate desserts.
Skip the salad..get the dessert! – Although the food looks good here I can never get past eating dessert first! The pies are wonderful but my favorite is the apple crisp a la mode. Being in the Driskill Hotel gives it a very nice ambiance for relaxing.
Yum! Yum! Yum! – I absolutely loved the cheese soup, delicious sandwiches and the chocolate cake. My husband had the meatloaf and it was the best we have ever tasted. The outdoor patio on 6th Street was a treat!
