Disappointed – My wife and I went there with another couple on June 14, 2003. We were expecting a classy, somewhat formal restaurant. Instead, we found a VERY casually dressed and LOUD crowd. Even with a reservation, we waited about half an hour. The dining area was so noisy, we could barely hear each other. I guess the big attraction is the VERY BIG portions. Being more interested in "quality" rather than "quantity", we all ordered the filet mignon. For the incredibly high price, you don't even get side orders, and have to order those separately. The steaks ended up being OK and nothing spectacular. Actually, pretty bland if you don't add either the Bernaise or Hollandaise sause. The service was pretty good, and our waitress was very nice. Even with only one bottle of wine ($45) and splitting desserts, we ended up paying $350 -- NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE AT ALL.
Old School, Done Right – Arnie Morton's still gets our vote for Best Steaks in L.A. and thus far in our travels comes in second nationally only to Delmonico Steakhouse in Las Vegas.
This is an old school dining room with classic elegance, excellent service and top quality food and the price tag you'd expect for all of the above.
Tables in the heart of the dining room can be a little too cozy at times, push for the back of the restaraunt if you can get it; there's a litte more space and a little less light.
Dining would be a lot more fun if everyone presented their menu the way Morton's does. Great spot.
Consistent – The cuts of meat are very large and delicious. I recently went with a large party, and although nothing really stood out from the menu, every thing was good. Try the GIANT asparagus which resembles more a tree than something you would eat. Also, the Godiva chocolate dessert is superb. The price is a little high and the cost of lunch can break the bank.
