Great place for quiet conversation.. Always one of my favorite places to go in the neighborhood if I am looking for a queit place to chill. The prices are cheap, especially the happy hour. $4 for a martini? Awesome. Plus, the bartenders are always friendly. The only problem is that sometimes they close early on a weekday.
With cheap martinis, some guys have all the luck..
The Scene
Imagine a less quaint, more gay version of "Cheers" (without all the '80s hairdos). Well-groomed Hell's Kitchen boys bring a date or come alone; the bartender takes care that everybody knows everybody before too long. Throbbing club music, a cool cement floor and a three-sided bar lit blue from underneath make it a fresh neighborhood place that could well be a television-sitcom set. Hunky patrons star in the real-life drama.
The Draw
Skyy vodka serves as a smooth base for 12 martinis and a classic cosmo. The simplicity of the drink menu, and the Ninth Avenue location, keep costs low and spirits high. Strong drinks--made like the more expensive ones downtown--assure that the small house is packed.
Had a good time, but not really a gay bar. Was on a visit and heard through Citysearch about this place. It is small in fact there where 3 other people in there plus the bartender. Being a Californian had a good time since 2 of the people were originally from California as well. Had great drinks (watermelon martini's) and good conversation. This is a small space (hey it's NYC) but had a good time just what was needed since I'm not into the whole bar scene. I asked about it being a gay bar and the bartender (I'm sorry I forgot here name, but she was GREAT! had too many martinis but it was a Wednesday night) she said it really isn't listed as a gay bar but all the clientele (3) were. If you want to talk, have some drinks at a good price, in a easy going environment, check it out before you move on.
service is everything. I happened into Cosmo with a few friends. The place was empty but the music was good(Van Lear Rose) so we stayed. Right off the bat the bartender made us feel welcome. I ordered a Martini from their drink list. I have to say it was done almost perfect. The bartender(Melody) was very engaging. My friends and I ended up staying for a lot longer than we would have if it wasn't for her. Some regulars came in and Melody made sure to introduce everyone and we all soon became friends. Not only is she pretty, she's smart, can make a pretty good Martini and makes everyone friends. We will be back because of her. Like I said service is everything.
Good Place for a Private Party. This is a great place for a private party for about 25-30 people. It's a cute, intimate spot with good, reasonably priced drinks. They just need to work on the heat/air-conditioning issues...
Cute & Cosy. Stumbled into the place with a few friends early on a Saturday evening... we were the only ones there but had a blast chatting with each other and the friendly barkeep. Will go back again, but make sure the sign is hanging out front -- otherwise it is booked for a party.
Just rent it.... My friends rented this space out for a birthday party, and it was a HUGE success... the space was fantastic for intimate conversation and large group socializing alike, the drinks were really good (and cheap), and the Nick the bartender was friendly. We're going back. Obviously.
I loved this place. Cheap, friendly, fun - I had a great time. There are fewer and fewer places where you can just go have a drink and not spend a fortune. The service was especially good.
DON'T GO!!!!. This place is awful. We had a birthday party with about 7 people there recently. How it got a good rating I'll never know. It's way too small (which is fine 'cuz there was noone there anyway) and VERY loud for such a little place. We wanted intimate, they said they were intimate, but the place was SO loud we couldn't hear ourselves think. Not only that, the drinks are overpriced, there's no ventilation and the bartenders cop an attitude.
