Stay away! All the reviews that warn of this place are correct. I discovered an oil leak and first took my car to Jiffy Lube, who made mention of my car being in superb condition; however, they were not equipped to fix the oil leak, so my boyfriend took it to the nearest place available, which Jiffy Lube recommended. Unfortunately, for me, that was M&R Import Services.
Once I received the $1200 dollar estimate to fix both an oil leak from the rear main seal and an oil leak from the side axle seal. I suspected I was being overcharged so I called a mechanic whom I trusted and he told me he would fix it for $400-500 less than they were charging me. When I called M&R to try to retrieve my car before they repaired it, I was told me they were going to have to charge me $350 because they had already disassembled the car (though no repairs had been done at this point). In order to save time, and because I was already out $350 and would now only be saving $50-150 to move my car to another mechanic, I decided to let M&R fix it. What a mistake! The day after I received my car, it began shaking when I reached 60mph. In addition to the shaking, the engine has lost significant power (it's a VR6 Jetta) I returned it to them and told them that there must be a tire balancing issue or an alignment issue from when they took my car apart. They declared it was something entirely new, provided me with an additional $800 estimate, and, yet, wouldn't bother telling me what was wrong with my car.
My car was running smoothly when I took it in, and is now a wobbling mess. Prior to taking it to M&R, it had never had the shakes, so for it to shake the day after having it "fixed,' as well as having significant less engine power, and then for them to tell me that these car problems are new and in no way related to their "repairs," suggests that they intentionally screwed with my car in order to ply me for more money. If you don't want to be overcharged and have your car tinkered with so that it needs additional repairs, you should avoid this place. Please don't get ripped off like I did.
Great Service & Quality – M&R has rejuvenated my Land Rover Discovery. They were fast and very honest about letting me know of the problems I had with SUV. They also provided me with options and suggestions on the best way to handle issues. I tried going to different places before because "it was cheaper" and found that these places didn't provide the quality of work that Mike and his staff at M&R has. I highly recommend M&R for European vehicle owners!
great auto shop – M&R is one of the finest auto shops in the city of Chicago. For years now my entire family has been taking our multiple cars and SUV
Excellent Service – I have been a customer for over five years and I have NEVER been disappointed with their service. The mechanics do excellent work, everyone is professional and super friendly and the prices aren't bad at all! M&R goes above and beyond to make sure your car receives the best repair service (they even check my oil, tires and fluids for me which I really appreciate!) I highly rececommend their business.
Awesome Service! – I recently moved to Chicago and was in search for qualified service station. I was in luck because I found a business card on my car, Mini Cooper S. Honestly i was a bit hesitant given this company reviews. But i gave them a shot and they sure didn't disappoint! If your seeking an honest dependable repair facility with great customer service, I highly recommend this shop. Their labor rate was better by 25% from any local dealership. My vehicle was clean, properly repaired & they even took my car to the State Smog Test for me. I also noticed that they inspected all my tires pressure, & even refilled my extra washer fluid container in my trunk. Every detail counts, at least for me. It was a pleasure doing business with this independent shop. Needless to say I have and will continue to recommend friends to M&R.
Worst business in chicago – These guys left an adhesive-backed card on my driver window to advertise, and it wouldn't come off. I'll have to spend 30 minutes going over a good part of the window with a razor blade just to get the garbage removed. If I'm lucky I won't do any damage to my car.
I Trust M&R! – I brought my Scion in with what I thought was a loud muffler. I was convinced cause I had taken the car to a gas station that put it up on the rack and said it was.... after doing a leak test. So I decided to try M&R because they are in the neighborhood and I did not want to go back to the dealer because every time I have done that I go through price shock after they have done any work. I talked to them about what I needed ... they priced out the muffler and with install seemed very fair. So I walk home and they call and I'm thinking "here comes the real cost". They said that it was just a connector and not the muffler. The repair was done for very little money ...
and they were super nice. Thanks M&R ...I will be back!
Terrible Ethics (previous employee) – I worked for M&R for about 6 months, during that time they never were even able to get me an actual uniform to wear. I had to wear my own clothes from home. As soon as i started I was informed (by my roommate who also worked for them) that the building had recently been broken into and that many techs tools had been stolen and tool box's heavily vandalized. After I served my time there I left and discovered that they never did organize the insurance information to reimburse the two techs for their tools and tool boxes. This is just a breif look from the inside. They also do everything they can to scour any extra pennies the customer may have by issuing unneeded work....... One example before i leave... A Porsche came in the door one day for an hood that was "hard to open". I personally took a look at it and it had opened just fine the first, second, and third time. I then informed Mike Jr. that the issue was "not duplicatable". He said "Okay, mark down 2 hours diagnostic on the Repair Order". I rolled my eyes but did anyway cuz they were writing my check at the time. I later got a peek at the invoice and saw that they had charged 2 hours diagnostic, 1.5 hours labor, and $ for parts on a new hood latch that had never been installed......
Very decieving – I have to say that honestly all of these reviews that I have read about this place truely scared me. I have been looking for a shop to service my BMW for over a year and a half now, due to the fact that the dealership became too expensive and quite a bit inconvienient for me. I googled shops around the 60614 zip code and found this business. Upon reading these reviews I will admit that I thought that maybe these guys were a bunch of scam artists that ripped people off at every chance they got. The analogy to them having one hand on your shoulder and the other in your pocket gave me a strong image that truly made me think twice about taking my vehicle to this shop. The risk taker in me decided to give them a shot. They are 10 minutes away from my home, a small shop so i assumed that there had to be something good about them. Upon walking in the front door I was taken aback.......
I was greeted by the service advisor, Patty i believe her name is. She greeted me politely and promplty wrote up my concerns and my vehicle's information. It took her a little bit longer then the dealership would have taken, but nonetheless the experience felt more personal. She got me to sign off on 2 hours of labor to diagnose my vehicle, which i thought at first was a little bit excessive, but well my Bimmer had issues and we needed to get to the bottom of it. Little did i know, that the 2 hours i had authorized really were not as much as I thought, because the amount of work that they put into diagnosing my issues was way greater. They took pictures of every issue, even taking a shot of a bulb socket that was melted. They were very specific in everyone of their findings and even provided me with a Hertz rental car. They said that they would only cover one day, but ended up covering 3 because of a special order part that was needed. Mike Sr. was even kind enough to give me 3 free oil changes for future visits, which made me feel great after spending $2,500. No other place would have done this for their first time customer.
So i just wanted to tak a second to say that on this website a few of these reviews can be decieving. Most of the people who write these reviews have had bad experiences, but they need not spoil it for everyone else. Had i have listened to the people on this website i would have missed out on developing a great relationship with a good bunch of people. My hats off to Patty, Mike Sr., and the whole gang!
Never take your car to M&R! – This family reminds me of folks who pat you on the back with one hand while the other hand is firmly entrenched in your pocket. When you enter they see a dollar sign. They charge for an estimate, overcharge for labor, and add 50% to the cost of parts. The mechanics are inexperienced and do not speak English so you'll never talk to the man who actually worked on your car. Who you will talk to is Mike Jr., a duplicitas character who has been caught more than once joy riding in customer cars. His specialty is selling future repairs not needed. In this place of universal deceit the truth is a revolutionary act! I also have it on inside information they write some of their own reviews. Steer clear of this shop and don't let them rip you off! It's a safe bet you can get your vehicle repaired better and cheaper anywhere in or around the Chicago area.
