apparently it's the same everywhere – as someone who has worked in this department, i know everything everyone has said to be true. it's not fair, and sadly, it's like this all across the states. i tried to fight it as best i could. sadly, my efforts not only went unrewarded but were also seemingly discouraged.
please remember, if you feel that you have been treated unfairly, you can file a civil liberties complaint - abuse of authority, among other things, is a valid issue.
The worse place to go!! – I've never had to ask for help, but due to the high rise of unemployment and loss of job, I had to seek medical help for my three children. If I could avoid stepping into that place I would, but being in the situation that I am in I had to find medical benefits for my kids. It was the worst and most humiliating experience ever. These people treat you like an animal. Don't know how in the world they got their jobs. So many professionals out there who need a job, and can't find one. fun? They are wrong. Most people that go there go because they are n deperate need. As American Citizens we have the right to seek help when needed. I don't abuse the system
Missing Management – This is normal procedure for the St of ILL. I have worked for a ILL Dept. and can relate to what the applicants and employees are having to deal with. The employees are put under tremendous stress in most areas. Please remember in "some" depts they do nothing but talk personal phone calls all day, or miss so much work they have to request over-time to get something done. And they APPROVE IT !?!?!?! Its Management that is slowely bringing the whole system to a stand-still. These Management positions are in most cases hired by the heads of the Departments, which are hired by the Governors office.
Its very different as to which dept you go to. Public Assistance is drowning. The dept I work for is staffed with self-serving "don't bother me" types. Its very sad.
Incompetent-UnderEducated Staff – I concur with all other reviews. They are very disorganized and treat everyone there as if they are subpar humans who don't even deserve a clean bathroom with stall doors. The only employee who you look forward to seeing is the female security at the desk. She is very pleasant and helpful. My example to support this half hazard non functioning office is I received an appointment letter that was post marked 4 days after my supposed scheduled appointment. Because I missed the appointment they told me I had to start all over. For the 4th time in 6 weeks I took a day off work and sat in the office ALL DAY and was never seen. I then received a letter stating my case was dropped. The place is filthy, uncomfortable, and the staff is beyond rude and incompetent. Don't they realize that if there were no people in need of assistance they wouldn't have a job and would also be in need of assistance. The whole staff needs replaced and the State of Illinois really needs to investigate this office. My advice to all above; Write to Quinn with your story and encourage others to do the same. It is what I am doing.
rudest and racist people! – I went yesterday to applicate for food stamps and i had a horrible experience there. Many people pray for having a job, and people who have it do not appreciate.
If they don't like their job they should get a new one.

disgusting – this place is an absolute joke. nobody does their job and they're all rude. i happen to be a single parent- a new one at that and had the worst experience of my life at this place! i had an appointment to be there @ 815 in the morning just to wait all day. these people never called my name. in the mean time, i have a 3 month old who is breastfed and nowhere to feed him. when i asked if they're even going to call me the woman said she doesnt know and to sit down. this was @ 1230 in the afternoon. needless to say i had to leave as i have nobody to stay with my baby & nowhere to feed him. if these people are so unhappy with their jobs then they need to get a job somewhere else!
Rude Staff members – As a single parent, I was forced to receive public aid due to necessities. First of all when you go there make sure you come prepared with snacks(if you have kids, brings coloring books or favorite toy) because you will be in there for a very long time. Not only do you have to wait there for hours before some rude, inconsiderate case worker has to see, but even if you are going to ask one simple question you have to stand in line for about an hour. Make sure you go very early or after 2p.m. because your case worker will go to lunch & you will sit there waiting for them to come back an take your case. When you call their number (773) 918-6700 they won't answer, & after hours & sometimes even days of trying, they will transfer you very rudely even before you are finished with your sentence. You can be like, " Yes I am calling because i received a letter in the mail & I'm supposed make an appointment with my case worker, so that....." CLICK!!! they transfer without even saying hold on! If they hate their job so much why don't they just quit. I know it's hard for them to deal with most ignorant, and desperate people, but hey, I'm sure it was in their job description to deal with that. The government needs to re-evaluate the employees they hire, or send a monthly "secret shopper" to keep tabs on these terrible DHS staff.
Horrible Place! – Unfortunately, I've been coming here since my son was born 6 years ago. These are the laziest and rudest people I've had to depend on. It's disgusting that they are in the service of helping others, but really don't want to. First of all, whenever you call there, the line is super busy and there's no getting through for hours. When you do get an appointment, you really do have to wake up super early, pack a breakfast AND lunch to camp out there and wait around forever. A couple of times, I've waited there with child or children in tote just so they can tell me that my caseworker is not even there anymore. Oh and you can only talk to your specific caseworker. I got married and changed my name and the caseworker pretty much hung up on me. Then I got there to talk to someone about my case and she pretty much told me she can't talk to me anymore. I need to get a new caseworker because she doesn't deal with that letter of the alphabet (ridiculous!!!). Well, I told her I just needed to know what to do next... I had to go home and call in to make an appointment with the person who deals with my new last name. I really hate having to depend on places like these, but what can I say the economy is really bad right now. I'm sorry to say that I know a lot of people who get a lil bit of help from the state of Illinois. I just wish the workers would get off their fat lazy asses and give a care about their jobs. I'd love to have that job!

and call my caswrker to even see if she is there because they wont tell u unless u ask
and then u dont know if they are lieing they sneek out of the back cause they know they didnt do there job that day
so much money they get paid to sit back there and talk about where there going for lunch and what they heard at church lol

great customer service – They had the best serv ices i have every seen. I just in the future that i would have service like that again. God bless you all in many ways.
