BEST RESTAURANT MEAL EVER? – The title of this review is no exxageration. The only reason there's a question mark at the end of this is b/c I've had a couple of other experiences that are in the running too. Anyway, the outside doesn't look very impressive. That's b/c it's pretty much in a strip mall type of setting. Once you get inside, however, it's a different story. The decor is very cool and trendy but the lighting is dark. It's romantic but it's kind of tough to read the menu and if you're there with a large group, the lighting might not make it conducive to across-the-table converstations.
THE FOOD: Amazing. I chose this place b/c of the variety. We love sushi and we found it intriguing that they had some steak, chicken, AND seafood recipes. I called and they said that the seafood is brought in fresh daily. We had the spicy tuna rolls which were good. They actually came with a spicy red sauce normally used in stir fry's which was a nice touch. Also, they also came with wasabi peas which surrounded the wasabi for the sushi. Again, nice touch and I'd never had wasabi peas before--they're really good. For the entree, I had the indigo cut steak which is a sirloin wrapped in bacon--FANTASTIC. The only complaint here is that I asked for some sauteed mushrooms and onions (what's a steak without onions and mushrooms, right?) and they charged an extra $5 for that topping. A little ridiculous in my opinion b/c it wasn't a side--it was just a topping, you know? Anyway, my wife had the chicken tamale which isn't what you would think but it was really good. The dessert was also very good.
THE PRICE: Not bad at all. We're from Chicago and we would've paid more for this meal elsewhere. It was $75 for the above with 2-3 drinks and the meals came with salad. I also had an espresso at the end. See note above about the onions and mushrooms.
In all, a great meal at a great price. We will be back!
Great Experience! – I live in STL (from Spfld) and took my family to Indigo for dinner out which was fantastic! Salads come with dinner and are not the iceberg cop out, but sweet cranberry/wild greens- so good! I ordered sushi-grade seared ahi which came on marinated veggies, like asian cole slaw (not doing it justice). I was skeptical when ordering but ahi was perfectly meaty-delicious! Husband ordered a huge thick-cut pork chop -really tender. Mom had lobster tail and dad went with steak- both loved theirs. We also had sushi apps- spicy tuna, california roll-basic offerings- but being one of the only places that serves sushi in a conservative town, I didn't expect them to unveil the "Spicy Abe Lincoln roll" and scare the timid. Bill was $200 w/ drinks, apps, dinner for 6- not bad. Martinis and lounge area are excellent.
