Luxurious food, casual service – I tried Maximillian's for the first time last week and had a friend not recommended it, I probably would not have known it was there. The restaurant is in a little strip mall right off Chapel Hill Rd and it is pretty small on the inside, with about half its space taken up by the kitchen. We dined on a Friday night and we had a reservation, however the restaurant had a few empty tables and I wouldn't have described it as "packed". The food was fantastic, I'd describe it as more of a classic menu with an eclectic spin, but not very Asian. Really the only Asian-inspired items on the menu were the sashimi grade tuna and a spring-roll type appetizer. Apparently they change the menu from time to time though. They offer a lot of specials as well. I had the grouper off their menu and it was very flavorful. The portions were quite large as well, no need to get appetizers. Also they brought out some wonderful warm rosemary bread with a great melted cheese on top, served with a balsamic-olive oil mixture for dipping. The wine list was not very extensive but they do have a nice little cocktail list. The pomegranate martini was refreshing and unique. Be prepared to spend money here, the menu had some average priced entrees but others were decidedly more. On to the not-so- impressive part of the evening, the service. For the meal prices here I expect a little more attention on the behalf of the servers. The restaurant was not overly busy but the service was slow, it took about 15-20 mins to get our drinks from the bar after we ordered them. We had to flag down our server to ask about our drinks and he blamed the slowness on the bartender. He didn't come back after bringing our food to check up on us or refill water and we had to flag him down for our check. Overall the food here is very much worth the price and potential slow service, and if my experience is the norm, just be prepared to spend a good 2 hours here and you shouldn't be disappointed.

Good Food , inferior sevice – Having read the other reviews I was surprised that this is a reflection of those. Let me start by saying the food is excellent but the service is way below par. This is more a kitchen problem that a server one, although they had some inconsistences as well.

The first app arrived a full 10 mins before the others. The first entree even longer before the others and the worst part is was way undercooked " pork tenderloin" so it had to go back and anoth 15 minute wait ensued. A 7:30 wait list pre call saw us seated at 8:20.....

I suggest that this restaurant is worth the visit however do not go on a weekend since the aggravation takes the pleasure out of the meal and the ability to handle efficiently a full house is lacking.

Good food. non-professional service. No weekend reservations – This was our second time at Maximillians. We phoned to make 7:30p reservations for Saturday evening. They don't take "reservations" for two, but instead put you on a phoned-ahead list. We arrived at 7:25p, and they sent us to the bar. The bartender was not polite. Rude is a better description. We were finally called for our table at 8:30p. For a restaurant as pricey as Max, our waitress wasn't up to par. The food was worth the wait ... excellent flavor. This was similar to our first experience at Max ... long wait, non-professionals, good food.

Flashy food in a subdued setting. – In Short
With a dining area featuring large tinted windows, high ceilings and dark wood paneling, Maximillians promises a warm dining experience. Low light licks over the cheerful wall art and a partition divides diners from a small wine bar. The impressive Californian-Asian menu boasts creative food presented with flair. Entrees include the tasty fire pan voodoo tuna lightly seared in peppercorns and mounted on a fiery bed of noodles--spicy without the heat.

User review by celtic67 – Went here for a family birthday dinner. Entrees came at different times with someone still waiting when everyone was finished. Would not recommend this restaurant if you are in a group. There was not enough servers for the size of this restaurant.

Simply the best! – We go here all the time - because nothing else compares! Everything is unique and uniquely wonderful! The staff is incredible and just enhance the whole experience. If I am ever asked to recommend a restaurant - this is the one! And no one has ever been disappointed!

For the quality and serving size, the price is a deal!

HORRIBLE!! – My husband and I made reservations for Valentine's Day dinner 1 1/2 weeks in advance. We'd been to Maxamillian's before and liked the food. We got there for dinner and were shown to our table-which was 1 foot away from the kitchen and 2 feet away from the bathroom. When my husband asked if we could be moved to another table, and were willing to wait to do so, we were told that the dining room tables usually booked 2 weeks in advance. Had I been told I'd be spending alot of money for a romantic dinner by the bathroom, I'd never have booked the reservation. We left immediately-and won't be going back. For the same prices, you could go to Margeaux in Raleigh and eat better food, and look at better restaurant decor. I will never go back to Maximillian's-and will advise others not to do the same.
