“We were at Minibar and were looking to grab a quick bite to eat before heading back to our hotel and our server recommended this little place almost right next door, FireFly.”
FireFly - "highly recommended"....
FireFly has become our kitchen away from home!
There's nothing better than a GREAT martini (or, vodka on the rocks with a twist),
and FABULOUS food to go with it! ...not only do we enjoy the weekly specials that are unveiled every Wednesday, but we also LOVE FireFly's tried and true food - the duck spring rolls, the spinach salad, a hamburger, the chicken and brie sandwhich - the menu is endless. If there's room, look at the dessert list - it's delicious. The friendly staff makes going to FireFly a weekly event... Sarah has created a treasure on Halsted!
The Best Place On Halstead. Firefly is the best place on Halstead. The food is better than expected. Try the steak sandwich or the filet. The martinis could cost $15.00, but they only charge $9.00. The ambience is warm and inviting. The staff is great. The staff is full of experienced and talented people who love their job. It isn't really the place for children, but with a couple martinis it becomes an adult paradise.
A Gem on Halsted Street.
My partner and I have been going to Firefly since it opened a few years ago. Over the years, the staff has made us feel like part of the family...one of our favorite things to do is sit at the bar on Wednesday nights when Jeff is on duty, drinking and eating...and you can't go wrong with any of the fun servers, Rachelle, Andrea, Todd, Shawn, John, Maureen...and Ray is a friendly face on the floor. Sarah has put together a great group!
The menu has eveything from full dinners to burgers and frittes (best in Chicago) so there is something for everyone. Plus there are always several creative specials available. And the liquor list is great....excellent wines (which they always let us sample to make sure we like them) and wonderful martinis. During the warm months, there is a large outdoor area...great for watching the sights on Halsted Street.
Wonderful. It took awhile to get seated at 8pm on a Friday (as was to be expected) but the Martinis made the wait worth it. The food was excellent, great service and prices. The owner was there making sure everyone was taken care of.
Classy Food / Comfort Food. FireFly is a place where salad never means iceburg lettuce and where soup isn't tomato pasta or chicken noodle. But other times, when you just gotta have some simple comfort, there is grilled cheese and deviled eggs. FireFly is balanced between class and comfort. Serving sizes are perfect for having a soup, entree AND dessert. Coffee is always hot and robust. The staff seems to stick around, which makes it a cozy place to go coz they know your name. If you like people watching, grab a seat that allows you to peer out the picture windows so you can watch the energy on Halsted evolve as the night passes on.
Loungy late-night restaurant glimmers brightly on the Halsted strip..
The Scene
The price point at this funky little lounge is refreshingly low for the neighborhood, and the intimate space allows just enough elbow room. Black lacquer tables, tomato-red walls and cozy booths give the place a sexy, nocturnal vibe, and a club-ready Boys Town crowd packs in for late, late dining.
The Food
Firefly's bistro menu deftly mingles French-inspired nibbles with old-fashioned comfort food. Just about every app is a crowd-pleaser: creamy Parmesan deviled eggs, succulent escargot en croute, and a charcuterie plate with imported cheeses paired with pepper salami, caper berries and pearl onions. For entrees, salmon is simple, falling-apart tender and paired with crunchy vegetables. For vegetarians, there's a colorful veggie and goat cheese sandwich. Steak sandwich is a delicious study of textures, with tender steak, creamy blue cheese fondue and fried onions on chewy ciabatta bread.
firefly!. What a little treasure. The food was great and the portions were more than enough. I wasn't looking to take home a trough of left-overs. The waitstaff is refreshingly happy and without the snotty attitude that you get at a lot of places. The atmosphere was very sexy and the drinks are consistent and fabulous. I recommend this place whole-heartedly.
nice alternative. I thought my meal there was quite tasty... accompanied by my martini or two... the menu is a bit limited, but it appears that they are doing those things right... as the new place on the block it seems there might be a few kinks to work out, but I like it... I kinda wish that their hours were expanded some (like open earlier in the day, lunch / brunch?)
