STERLING CAFE IS CLOSED! HAS BEEN FOR OVER A YEAR! Sorry Don; love ya, miss ya! Go to Piccolos or Tilth or Flying Fish or Portage Cafe!
Not just organic, but gourmet cooking! What a joy for all and those of us with food sensitivities. – Incredibly flavorful food, prepared to your specifications (in my case migraine issues), and presented attractively. I was able to eat gourmet instead of boring without concern, including dessert. What a rare treat! This is one of Seattle's best for anyone who enjoys fabulous food. (And a must for those of us with food allergies and sensitivities.)The chefs know how to spice food to match food issues, creating tastes that are both flavorful and subtle. Ignore the salon; Seattle's famous for a little funk and the restaurant itself is gracious and the service excellent.
One of the best restaurants in Seattle – My favorite restaurant in Seattle. I've never been less than totally satisfied with the food and the service. Everything is made from the highest quality organic ingredients. Even the beer and wine are organic. The dishes aren't fussy- more like high class comfort food. Don's chicken is a classic, if you like chicken do not miss this wonderful bird. The steak is top-notch, the superior quality of the meat really makes a difference. If you like liver, you just have to go down to the Sterling and order the liver, don't even think of this as an option, it is that good. The pasta dishes are all winners. The soups, the salads, the appetizers, not a loser in the bunch.
Some people have the idea that an organic restaurant will be skimpy in the portions. Not at the Sterling! The portions are huge, my wife and I usually get at least three meals off a single entree. Of course we save room for dessert. The Sterlings desserts are fantastic, the best banana cream pie I've ever had. And the chocolate cake- the thought of it is almost making me drool on my keyboard.
The service is warm, friendly and attentive. Don (the owner and head chef) and his staff always makes us feel right at home. No matter how stressed I might be I know that my tension won't be coming in the door with me. Thanks Don.
My favorite restaurant in this city. – Sterling Cafe is the absolute best place in this city. I cannot recall how many times my boyfriend and I have eaten here. We have brought everyone from friends to relatives here to dine, and have made believers out of them as well! As a couple that loves to eat organic as often as possible, this has been an absolute God-send. Don and his staff are pleasant, and have created a trusting environment, as we are ensured that he has taken all measures possible to ensure that this restaurant remains USDA Certified Organic. To know that this is one of only THREE restaurants in the country that have this certification, proves that it is not a simple task.
Some of my favorite dishes include the steak with portabello mushrooms, chicken florentine soup, mushroom soup (with extremely hard to find organic creamini mushrooms--trust me, I've searched..), and many of the selections on the Sunday brunch menu. I absolutely love all of the desserts, but the homemade fudge ice cream is out of this world. It's rich, creamy, and there's nothing "light" about it, but it's oh-so-good!
This restaurant has been great for me when I have wanted to take a break from the kitchen, but still maintain my "food ethics". Not only that, but it has proved to many that eating organic does not mean missing out on exquisite taste and fabulous preparation.
Vegetarian? Consider other restaurants first. – Sterling Cafe appears on the list of Seattle's best vegetarian restaurants. It does not belong on such a list. The menu caters strongly to carnivores. Lot's of places have a veg option or two, but one wouldn't classify them as Vegetarian per se.
Pleasant Surprise – Never thought I would find one of the best burgers in the city here. Their comfort food is top notch. Also, don't forget to try the homemade banana cream pie. They obviously care a lot about what goes into the food. I will definitely be going back to try other things.
Delicious! – My husband and I eat here regularly and the food is always superb. Our favorite treat is the decadent chocolate mousse and a cup of organic coffee after a delicious dinner. We feel so good and energized after we leave the restaurant that we would eat there every day if we could!
Absolutely must try – Forget being the only Organic Restaurant in the State. Try it for the forgotten taste of real food. Recently taken there by a friend, and was blown away with the flavors and aromas. My service was wonderful and the food was fantastic. Like nothing I have ever had. Desserts were equally excuisite. They have gone all the way in creating a haven for us that eat only Organic food, and open up possibilities to those that don't. We have dined in many of the better restaurants in the city and nothing compairs in the experience.
Where do I begin? – I found the restaurant budding up to the nail salon to be quite repulsive. What a great honor to look at someone getting their nails done while I try to eat. Secondly, I litterally waited 25 minutes before I was even offered a menu. (Mind you, the place was not busy... six patrons, two servers working) I was then offered the table next to mine's food four times. The beer was warm, as if it were served directly from the storage room, the food was ok (half chicken) that tasted a bit marsala like, and it took another 40 minutes to receive my check after asking for it repeatedly. Everything I read about this place from the other reviewers made me believe I had found a gold mine... instead, I found a coal mine... and it is served only after they cleared the table off for the non-exsistant customer!
Impeccable!!! – I have been to Sterling Cafe over 30 times. My husband and I have dined in some of the finest restaurants in the world. I mention this, with all humility, in hopes that the reader will find this to be a well-qualified review...
We keep returning to Sterling Cafe because the food is impeccable. Not only is everything organic, but the owner seems to go to the great lengths to ensure its freshness and quality (plus, don't forget to ask about how they go to extra lengths to purify the water!). This definitely effects the taste of the food. Some of our favorites: the crab cakes, the salmon pesto sandwich, and oh my, the banana creme pie! Each meal tastes homemade and you somehow always leave feeling very healthy and satisfied.
