Sure glad I got free tickets. What a waste of time and money – Pretty bad when the only thing that scared me was a air line blast at the end of one of the lame houses. If I would have paid that much for that crap I would have found the owner and KICKED THE CRAP out of him..And I agree totaly what mtschimperle said.
Uhhh. Wha? – Ok. Here is the deal. When I shell out money (in this case $51.00 for 2 adults and 2 kids) I expect some minimum criteria to be met. I wouldn't spend 50 bucks at a restaurant and then not complain if the food was served cold, mushy and tasteless. That is what the Trail of Terror was. The ridiculously mismanaged lines aside, the entire thing was set up in as an overpriced, "phone it in", gouge the payer for every dime example of bad capitalism at it's finest.
First, the hayride. Once you march the quarter mile from the main gate to embark apon this jumbling and uncomfortable excursion the first thing you will notice is that if you, like myself and my youngest son, sit on the right side of the cart you are out of luck. Why? Because a full 90% of the attractions are on the left side of the trail. I spent the entire time trying to direct my childs attention to things I couldn't see. And speaking of seeing, even if I had been on the "right" side of the cart all of the scenes were so badly lit so as to render them all but invisible. You can't be scared or impressed by something you can't see. This was a recurring theme throughout the Trail of Terror. But for the lack of roughly another $2,000 - $3,000 worth of lighting one might have been able to see some of the terror on this trail.
The bulk of the attractions had hour long lines so we ended up passing and went right for the big gun: The Maze.
The Maze was another mess. Again, so poorly lit as to render the actors and sets all but invisible. There looked as if there might even have been some cool stuff. There was a neat dragon and a turning disorientaion tunnel but the bulk of the 'scares' came in the form of unlit rooms, overwhelming soudtracks and music and people jumping out and saying "boo" in costumes I couldn't see. And, seriously, if the best scare you can manage is to jump out from around the corner and give out a pathetic "boo" it's time to consider a new career. Perhaps in the banking industry wich seems far scarier than this waste of time and money.
If you want scares and reasonably priced fun give the Trail of Terror a PASS!
Trail of terror – Now i see many of you people keep constantly bitching or moaning, complaining about the same thing over and over again. Heres a recommendation for many of you before i hear more of this crap. Granted yes where ever you come from 2-3 hours away good for you. However Discount Tickets go to wal-greens simple as that unless there given to you for free then even better.
Another thing many of you by the reviews im reading are screaming and crying about the lines ok hear me out before this turns into a complete frenzy and roll your eyes. First off did you go on a friday or saturday? that happens to be the busiest time when people have the weekend and all want the scared. Thursday and Sundays are normally slow but then most people again will complain were not scary enough. Let me tell you something. the actors do the damn best and most of them put there body on the line to entertain you. No one seems to get the idea also there dedicated to thrill you but if you put up a tough act or even act stupid they wont waste there time on you. also another thing when it comes to it Ive been to screamtown and ill metion that its bad enough they had to ask me how to scare people. they also have to try to get actors from trail of terror. That should be a wake up call to many of you. So ill say this once if you come friday or sat be prepared for a line hell bring your ipod talk to the street monsters Thurdays and Sundays are for the better days
Not worth it! – We got our tickets for free, but if we would have paid for them I would be absolutely pissed off! We drove almost an hour there, we left our house at 7:00 and we didn't get home until 2 AM. The lines were so long we had to wait for our number to be put on the screen to go into the maze and after that we still had to wait in a huge kine and then we had to wait for our letter for the hayride and then wait in another line. There were so many people there that there were eveb long lines for the small trailers. They let way too many people in this place at once. The trail was fun, I'll give it that. BUT nothing else was worth the very, very long wait. I won't go back again!
Waste of money – This was the worst $51 I ever spent. Sat in line over 2 hours for the hayride and didn't get to do anything else because the lines were too long. AVOID THIS PLACE!!
How is this place legal? Stay away. – It's been four months and I'm still outraged. This operation was the worst experience I've ever had, I would avoid this place at all costs.
My wife and I, in our mid 30's, went to the Trail of Terror with a few other couples. During our 45 minute drive, we stopped and bought tickets at a Walgreens. Once we arrived, we needed to wait in a long line to get on a shuttle bus to take us to the entrance. Once at the entrance, we were able to bypass the ticket line (which looked short) and go right in.
This is where things got bad. We were given two tickets, or time slots, to gain entrance to the LINES for the hayride and then the haunted house. The lines were HOURS long before they called your number and then even longer after that. To top it off, we were constantly harassed by the young security kids that they had working. We were asked to stand away from the lines, but there was no where else to go, the place was packed!
Well, we waited and waited and finally decided to leave. We realized that our night had been a complete waste of time and were very upset with the operation. But before I left, I did ask to speak to a manager and asked for a refund. I was able to find the so-called manager, who was also very young. She would not refund our money but gave us passes for another night - a horrible option that I would never consider!
I believe we paid $16 each, so a $32 total for absolutely nothing. To top it off, I learned on the shuttle bus back to the car, that multiple other couples had the exact same experience! You gotta be kidding me. How does this place get away with taking our money and not having the capacity to deliver or give us a refund? This isn't just bad service but borderline criminal. They give you no indication of the wait, but still take your money, knowing that most people can't wait around for 4 hours+ and will eventually leave. I really think they should be investigated.
Like I said, it's been 4 months and I'm still upset about this. I only hope I can save some of you from sharing a similar experience. STAY AWAY.
Better than the others – For the people spouting how lame Trail of Terror is- by the way it is not Terror of Trail!!!!- I have a couple questions. One: Was I the only person who got discount tickets and theirby cut the waiting in line all together? If people had actually looked into that, they may have had a better time. One could have easily called the number provided on the webpage and found this out. It is called preparing ahead of time. Now, you wait a long time in line. What do you expect?? Ya, no one likes to wait for anything in this country anymore but it is a seasonal event occuring for less than a month (Although this year, I hear they are going into the beginning of November) and a lot of people wanting to go. Yes, it was cold, it was the end of October! It is not uncommon to see the first snowfall by this time of year plus at night temperatures are always cooler and I don't remember any of the staff preventing me from entering for dressing appropriately (snug, heavy jacket, pants under my costume, long underwear, etc.) Ya, it may be expensive, than why the hell did you by tickets??!! And anyone who left due to long line waits, waaah! I'm so cold, has no right to rate something they did not even attend. Look, if you want Rob Zombie style horror, scare you into a heart attack, it ain't gona happen. I have been to just about every Halloween event in this state and rarely find one tailored for adults. Trail of Terror is the best so far. That said, was I scared? Honestly, no but I also knew this was entertainment and the guy with the butcher knife wasn't really going to stab me. If you really want to be scared go get chased by a homicidel maniac.
Fun Haunted House!!! – My boyfriend and I along with 20 friends went 2 yrs ago for our birthdays. Yes, it was cold. Yes, the line was long. Yes, it is quite a drive. But oh yes, the haunted house is so worth it! The haunted house is over 1/2 an hr long (better to go in smaller groups) and very scary. Although the haunted house is the only thing highly recommended; the hayride is just cold and pretty dull.
Just wretched. – It was horrible. We drove 45 min to get there, we paid 15$ each to get in, we stood in line for- get this -two and a half hours in the freezing cold, it was lame as sin, and then we left.
We left at 8 and got back at 1. and the only thing we did was the 7 minute hayride.
I was so disappointed, but whats more, I felt responsible for disappointing the three other people that traveled from out of town to have a fun evening with me.
Terrible – I was extremely disappointed in Terror of Trail. We had a group of 9 people. We waited in line for over 2 hours to get on the hayride. Once we were on the hayride, it was the worst thing I have ever done. There was nothing to see, and only a couple of cast members throught the ride. It was very boring and stupid. I will never recommend this to anyone, and for the cost of the admission, it is extremely overpriced.
