Predictable yummy menu, with an astounding decor – I said I would write a review of this place for the people I dined with here on Saturday night. the location was a bit offbeat considering the interior. The neighborhood is not very charming in itself, but once one steps inside, the high ceilings, exposed brick and amazing view of the wood burning oven takes you to another place. Perhaps a restaurant in Tuscany?? The service was decent. The food was delicious and very nicely presented. We ordered the Antipasti to share, with a side of green salad. The bread is extremely fresh and came with a nice ricotta and tomato sauce accompiniament. I enjoyed the chicken cutlet I ordered but I think the most appetizing dish was the pasta that the girl ordered next to me with butternut squash and stuffed ravioli. The meatballs were a bit large, but tasty and I didn't get to sample the lasagna orderd by another member of our table, the consistent Bret Stankley. His date, Pamela Vandecourt was a vegatarian and ordered the Ravioli I was eyeing seceretly behind my mountain of lettuce over chicken. Should have orderd it?? Dessert was uninspired with the apple crumble. And I am a big DESSERT person, so this was a dissapointment. I would opt for another cocktail instead of dessert next. Perfect for a double date, very romantic, quiet atmosphere. Will go here again.
Good Non-Fussy Food – My boyfriend and I went last night for an early dinner and were not disappointed. A coworker recommended the place and it was romantic and warm. The menu is a little on the small side, but the choices all sounded fantastic. I had the whole roasted wild stripe bass and he had the ribeye. Both were generous portions and the ribeye was the correct temp. There was nothing fancy about the food, it was rustic and hearty. A great place for a dinner party or just a romantic date for two. And good service on top of that!
Not as Excellent as I'd Hoped – My boyfriend and I took our parents to Apizz this past wknd. The six of us were expecting to have a low-key, sophisticated dinner with what we'd hoped would be a quiet, conversational atmosphere. The evening started out more quietly and quite nicely. The brick oven is huge and acts as a really lovely backdrop to the evening. The walls are all exposed brick and incredibly homey. We were sat immediately.
As the evening progressed, however, the noise level of the restaurant became almost unbearable and yelling was required for us to hear each other speak. The food was only slightly above average. The lasagna with wild boar ragu was by far the best. The handkerchief pasta was average (on the plus side, it came with large and generous pieces of lump crab meat). My father's risotto was on the salty side. Dessert, again, was not particularly impressive. The best dessert by far was the flourless chocolate cake.
If you're looking to have a dinner that's similar to this, try Lavagna instead. Pastas here are about $26 on average, the rib-eye is $36, and the seafood risotto somewhere in the middle. Lavagna is cheaper and although it doesn't have the large brick oven for atmosphere, the food, in my opinion, is better.
Best Italian Restaurant – Food is amazing. Service is great. Ambience is Perfect. A little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Call ahead as the space is small. Highly Recommended.
Great little hidden treasure – Cuta and cosy..Tried a few appetizers and main dishes and to be honest..each one was awesome..there were no dissapointments...will def go back. Went with 4 other people, that was a little tight, so I would not reccommend going with a large group. The place is cute and cozy and has a nice lounge downstairs if your just in the mood for cocktails..Nice wine list. The montepulciano is cheapest wine served by the galss at $7 and is great. I had the Ravioli di Zucca and it was SO SO good. Filling but you will be so happy with the decision...Not a cheap menu..but shouldnt be cause it is great/quality food...enjoy!
Great place for a date or a romantic evening – Chef LaFemina's second success after Peasant, Apizz is one the restaurants in New York that I rather keep the knowledge of its existing to myself. Once you walk in you'll instantly feel the wonderful change of the scenery and leave the city outside. Fire burning in the open hearth gives a warm and comforting feeling. Excellent design elements such as the brilliantly positioned large mirrors on the brick walls makes the place larger without disturbing.
Waiters are very helpful and quickly at your side when you need them. Most of the food comes out of the signature wood burning hearth in the open kitchen. I suggest the open ravioli, wild boar lasagna and crispy chicken as entrees and Apizz Margherita, Octopus and Mozzarella for starters but you can't go wrong anything from the menu. Nice selection of wine will make your meal even better and definitely save room for dessert.
Great Find – I tired Apizz on a whim and it was fantastic. The food was great -- especially the ravioli con zucca, which is topped with butternut squash, it is mouth watering, and the blood orange mojitos are scrump·tious. The atmosphere is great for a date or just a nice get together with friends. Oh, and I love the lounge downstairs which is a nice waiting room, if you have to wait. Also, I totally recommend reservations.
sometimes these things are correct.. – after hearing about all the hype on the food of this place i set off on my journey from the upper westside to check it out, to put it short i wish their was one in my neighborhood, really intresting place with very flavor full dishes, if i was a chef i would probably cook the same way,,loved it.
Best meal in NYC???? – date picked the place, I was a bit hesitant as I'm not that into pig latin, but dinner was so good it inspired us to write our first "critique". Cool place, not too crowded but best ap I've ever had - crisply prosciutto with something sugary/fruity, kinda like 5 star bacon but better. But seriously place was great, everything we ordered was fantastic and would highly recommend for a date (but trust me you don't need the second bottle of wine!!)
Great place! – Went there a recent Friday night with friends and we loved it! Our host, Xerxes, was very accomodating and friendly. The ambience was warm and inviting. The food was absolutely delicious - so many great flavors! I had heard good things about Apizz and am very happy we went - we will be back!
