If you're a steak and egg brunch eater, make sure to order the Colombian Breakfast, top round steak served with corn meal patties, two eggs, rice with beans, and slices of plantains.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday are the days to drop by — they do $5 mojitos from 5-7pm.
Mixto is a great spot for brunch, especially if you have a crowd. Lots of options on the menu and rarely a wait. Also a good place for happy hour.
Great ambiance, poor service – I have been to Mixto many times, and have brought many out of town friends and family there. But last night was a real disappointment and embarrassment!!! I brought 5 out of town co-workers to Mixto for drinks and dinner after telling them how wonderful it was. Our waiter was really poor and not sorry at all for any of his mistakes. He brought 2 of us the wrong drink on 2 separate occasions, and expected us to accept it!! We had to persuade him to give us what we wanted! The wait for food was really long, even with very few people in the restaurant. When all but one entree came out, my co-worker finally got up to ask the hostess what the problem was. He then brought her the salad without dressing, and then brought her the wrong dressing. We asked to have the alcohol on a separate bill (our company doesn't pay for alcohol); he said "yes" but didn't deliver. The really BAD part of this is....because we had a party of 6, the tip was included--he got a $22 tip for doing nothing. I am calling Mixto now to voice my complaint. Not going back there again!
Simply the best!! – I went to mixto about 2 weeks ago, have to say I Loved their service the hostes was so friendly and sweet she made me and my friends feel welcomed and comfortable, right away she seated us. The food was exellent the mango mojito was the best mojito i ever tried. I have to say i loved the food, drinks and the super friendly staff, did i mention the restaurant is beautiful! its bright and live its just makes you feel really good when walking in (nice craftsmanship)
I must say this restaurant was excellent, Awesome customer Service!!! – Mixto is a Beautiful Restaurant; I love the whole theme and the unique wood structure. The environment is great and friendly and the music is very relaxing. We went for a very special reason to celebrate my parents 25th year Anniversary we had about 10 people at our table. We asked prior to making our reservation if we could have a pink table cloth on the table where we would all be sitting because that?s my mother?s favorite color. The manager had no problem changing it from white to pink in honor of my mother. It was a surprise dinner for my parents and I wanted everything to be perfect! Plus, the food and drinks were very good and everyone there was soooo nice! The service is unbelievably terrific and the food and drinks are reasonably affordable. I've been coming to Mixto for at least a year or so and I would definitely go back again and recommend it to everyone!
the best food and drink – I've been going to Mixto for a couple years now and can honestly say I have never had a bad experience. I have been to the restaurant for lunches, brunches, dinners and drinks. The menu for any given meal has something for everyone to love. I love that they recently added eggs benedict to their menu. Now I don't have to go all the way to Sabrina's for one of my favorite brunch items! Mixto also has the BEST mojitos in town (taste, price and serving size), hands down!! I just went to alma de cuba over the weekend and wasn't impressed with theirs at all, not to mention the little rocks glass it was served in and charged me $10.
I would highly recommend Mixto to anyone.
Worst service we have ever had. Rude waitress. Charged us for a mistake she made. – Food OK. Service horrible.
The waitress brought our menus, took appetizer/drink orders and disappeared. Drinks and appetizer arrived, brought by the busboy. Halfway through the appetizer we questioned if it was what we had ordered. Comparing the appetizer that the busboy had brought to the description on the menu of what we had ordered, we realized we had been brought a dish we didn't order. Sounds wierd, I know, but we had wanted to try something new and had ordered an appetizer we were unfamiliar with.
We get the hostess and ask her to locate the waitress - who still is nowhere to be found. Finally the waitress comes out and insists that we ordered the appetizer that was delivered to the table. We know what we ordered and it is not what she brought, but she continues to argue about it. She finally takes the appetizer back to the kitchen and brings us the one that we did order.
NOTE: We were CHARGED for 1/2 of the appetizer that we did not order. I guess she pro-rated the cost because we had eaten half of it before realizing it wasn't what we ordered. This, of course, was deducted directly out of her tip which was low to start with based on the horrible service. I regret even giving her any tip at all as she didn't deserve it.
At this point, we had long finished our wine. Not once did she ask if we would like another glass of wine, even though we hadn't even been served our dinner. Other than it being poor service, it's lost income for the restaurant. Yes, we could have asked for another drink. At this point we were so put off by the service, we didn't want to. Why give any more money to this place?
The food was very oily, but the taste was fine. The service would keep me out of there entirely. Who wants to deal with a waitress so rude she is willing to *argue* with customers?
Mixto Management: LOSE THE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. FROM READING THESE REVIEWS, IT'S OBVIOUS THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM.
NOT TYPICAL DISHES – If you want real typical dishes this is not the place...We ordered what we thought were true typical Colombian and Cuban dishes based on their names and to our disappointment they were not...The typical Colombian dish was not served correctly the red beans were substituted with black the chorizo was missing and the white rice was substituted with yellow and the hogado was missing also, the only things were the steak the arepa the fried pork the two fried eggs. A bad imitation of a 'Bandeja Paisa" If anything you never serve this typical Colombian dish with yellow rice let alone black beans its an insult to Paisas the region know as Antioquia which Medellin is part of for those who don?t know. The Cuban 'Ropa Vieja' was served with yellow rice and black beans which traditionally the back beans are served with white rice this was much closer to the typical then the Colombian.
Yummy – I have only come here for brunch, which is by far my favorite brunch/lunch spot in Philly. I love the vegetarian platter which has like 3 differently prepared plantains, guacamole, rice, beans, veggies, etc. Those warm pieces of bread they leave on the table are even good. Their Republic of teas are also delicious. Do yourself a favor and try this place for brunch, you will definately not be disappointed.
good find – My husband and I were on our way to the Ritz and doing a little Pine St. shopping when we spotted this place. It was a nice evening so we sat outside. We ordered the pork entrees which I thought were a braised meat dish. It was actually sliced pork in a very rich and delicious sauce (would have loved more of it) fried plantains, rice and beans and the tamale(only thing that I didn't love) I will return soon--very large menu!
mmm those plantains! – I work very close to Mixto yet did not think to go there until I had a taste for some plantains (due to a dish I had at Alma De Cuba). I did a search for a restaurant near by and a little less expensive than Alma, love their food but was shooting for lower budget this time around. So up popped Mixto to my delight as I said it's close to work.
The food is absolutely amazing, the portion sizes are amazing and the two lunch dishes I ordered were both under $9.00 (went for my 2nd time today)
I decided to try an appertizer today as well and apologize for forgetting the name but it was a large plantain filled with meat and covered with melted cheese. Wasn't sure how I'd like the combo but it was out of this world good plus it was a huge portion. For $5.00 I was expecting small bite sized peices. So that allowed me to primarily bring my main course back home which again apologize for forgetting names but it consists of shrimp, yellow rice tomato's and again plantain (told u I had a taste for them:)) Also wonderful.
Bottom line is I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys latin food or even if you're simply a lover of food, you'll enjoy this place.
A Great Place – My wife and I found this by accident. We were strolling up Pine Street looking for a quick bite on a Friday night. We saw the menu and were seated immediately. From there on everything was great. Big margaritas, excellent Mojitos, an expansive menu with so many choices and a great atmosphere for a busy place. We went back a couple more times over the weekend, just for drinks. This place must not be missed for dinner.
