Do not waste your money – 2 words for salon 5844, Rude & Overpriced!
LARRY needs to improve is customer management skills and need a lesson in class – I went to this salon expecting to receive an updated haircut. What I came out with, was not worth the price I paid and was not what I requested. When I called to make my appointment I was told that his stylists were highly trained in the latest techniques and styles. From my experience this is not the case.
I was just calling back to make a comment on a haircut I received from Bethann....
After all I paid $59.00 for it plus a $10.00 tip; well he did not react well at all to my comments?
That is when I got to see the other side of this salon.
Larry asked me: ?what I wanted him to do about it? ? in a sarcastic tone.
Immediately he raised his voice at me; he wouldn?t listen to my complaint and got very defensive. I still don?t understand why he was defensive?
I?m the customer I just wanted to be listened to, instead he screamed at me.
His reply was to my comment was: ?MAKE YOUR SELF A FAVOR AND NEXT TIME GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!? Then he hung up on me.
Wow!!! I was speechless!
Larry needs to stand up and face the positive and negative comments, learn and grow from them ...but he decided to run from it all.
Larry hanging up the phone does not show a lot of maturity, I don?t understand how you can expect to keep business. This behavior maybe is what kids do and I don?t do business with rude people like you. GROW UP LARRY.!
You need a class on customer service....my hair will grow back? as for your business well who knows..??
Salon 5844 is Posting FRAUDULENT Reviews!!! – There is an obvious pattern in these reviews. The negative review on 11/9/08 was followed by three 5 star reviews on 11/11, 11/12, and 11/14. There were actually no reviews since 7/10 which makes it extremely coincidental that three positives would get posted two days after the negative. I highly doubt that customers, like the one on 11/12, will ask people to book appointments too. The truth is, the employees or owners post these reviews to keep the ratings high. The negative review on 11/9 is not the only complaint with this salon...scroll down and see the others but they are skewing the data and pushing the negatives off the main page.
Per the terms and conditions of Citysearch, postings by employees/owners is unnacceptable and can be removed since it decieves the customer.

An owner, like Larry, that hangs up on any customer is just plain nasty. At a minimum, you ask the client to come back in to fix the problem or offer an incentive for the next visit. This is what good businesses do that care about customer service. Not with them, take our old fashioned cuts and sarcastic remarks, or leave.
You can either take my advice and pay equivalent or less at Capristo (next door) or Jacques Dessange (Shadyside) to get the best in Pittsburgh or flush your money at 5844 to get the same old you can get for less anywhere else in Pittsburgh (Great Clips, Super Cuts, etc.).
BEST colorist in the city. – Beth Ann at Salon 5844 is excellent with color. I receive compliment after compliment on my hair color and cut.
I so look forward to my monthly 2 hour appointments...for that brief time I can set my busy schedule aside and enjoy the pampering I receive at Salon 5844.
I just had the best hair cut ever from Beth Ann at Salon 5844! She used a new technique that she said she'd recently learned, which tells me that she's always updated on the latest trends and cuts. This new cut added so much volume to my usually fine hair. And the color looks great, too! I found the staff to be friendly and attentive and the salon itself is quite stylish, comfortable and conveniently located. Make an appointment NOW!
Beth Ann is fierce – i've never felt more compelled to write a review than i did when i read the recent, nasty, unrtrue review. after moving from NYC a few years ago, trust me when i say that beth ann is the only stylist i would trust my hair to for color and cut in this city. her technique is modern and swift and her salon vibe is chic and not cheesy like some other salons i've tried in the city. she is simply the best stylist (artist as i like to call her) and maybe that is why everyone from Elbow Room to Wax to Bondstreet to The Tiny Dot on the same street respect her so much. I know that I do and trust me, I've been to many stylists before. She just always gets it right. And thank goodness she uses modern hair products and serves fabulous coffee (that you'll never receive in a styrofoam cup). The salon is classy and thus, only attracts classy clientele.
THE WORST OF THE WORST HAIR SALON. NASTY OWNERS! – If you want a terrible hair do and be treated terribly, this is your place to go! I had a 3:30 appointment which didn't start until 4:00 because Beth Anne was busy with another client. She was supposed to be the best in the salon. At the time, I didn't know she was married to the owner, Larry. She cut my hair with regular scissors and I need my hair to be layered. She does not have a technique at all. She just pulls pieces, then cuts. The back has pieces that don't match the side. It is just a mess, like I cut it myself. After she cuts it, she puts some products on it and put me under the dryer for 10 minutes. I have really thick hair and it doesn't dry in 10 minutes. Then she pulls me out of the dryer, shakes it, and says that looks good, you're ready to go. My hair was still wet. She was obviously rushing me out the door cause she was very impatient. My husband was watching and he could notice that she was giving dirty looks to the other girls working when I had my head turned. She is nasty and all of her comments are nasty. The look I want is curly-wavy like Miley Cyrus. She was fighting me to do it her way which is wet with a bunch of tight curls and frizz, just like I stepped out of the shower. Why would I spend $60 for something I can get at home. RIDICULOUS!!! After I showed Beth Anne the picture that I wanted it to look like (I already showed the first girl when I arrived), she said we could have done that a long time ago and we would have been done already. She was really giving me these sarcastic remarks, not something I expect to pay for when I go to the salon. We called the owner later to complain but Larry hung up on us twice (and lied about it) because he didn't want to hear the feedback. IGNORANT!!! Take my advice, spend your money at Capristo's (next door) or Jacques Dessange (Shadyside) and you will be much more satisfied. I've been to both and other top salons that know current techniques, Beth Anne is old fashioned with delusions of competence.
Johnnie is the best! – I moved to Pittsburgh 4 years ago and spent a lot of time "stylist shopping." Then, I ended up in Shadyside and randomnly went to Salon 5844 for an appointment with Johnnie. It's been over 2 years now! I have had him both cut and color my hair and have been more than pleased. When I describe what I want, he delivers!
TERRIFIC TOP OF THE LINE BEAUTY SALON – I would like to make a couple of comments in defense of Salon 5844. As far as describing Beth Ann as "off her rocker", I suggest that perhaps the one who wrote that one particular review examine herself thoroughly before she submits such a statement for public review. You are without a doubt a very miserable person. I would rather 100% sit in a salon chair with a cheery, upbeat, not to mention an extremely talented lady , than a person with your attitude. As for the "eyebrow guy"......REALLY? The "EYEBROW GUY"? Do you use a dictionary or have you ever used proper English? The term for his position (now pay close attention) is HAIRDRESSER. EVERY hairdresser is trained to wax eyebrows. His name is Johnnie and he is a very talented young man. I travel a long distance to these people as often as possible. The reason is simply because "I TRUST THEM!" I don't trust anybody with my hair. I notice your so-called review was during the Christmas Season. Shame on Ms. Scrooge. Be happy!
Not impressed – I had to wait at least 20min ( and I was on time) to be seen by Beth Ann. She laughed at my hair telling me that the stylist that I go to made me too blond and didn't know how to cut. ( I love the guy I usually go to, but he was on vacation) I felt almost made fun of. The salon was expensive and I did not feel comfotable especially when Beth Ann called over another stylist to look at underneath the back of my hair and laugh.
She dyed my hair darker than what I wanted and I did not care for the cut. $250 for that? Not again
