Great SushiBad Staff – As much as I like coming here for my sushi fix, the wait staff can sometimes ruin the experience. The sushi, sashimi and rest of the fish dishes are very good. Everything taste fresh and flavorful. The omakase I ordered a few times had a nice presentation. The fried chicken is very good too, for you non-raw fish eaters. Been here a bunch of times with friends and everyone has always enjoyed their meal.

The staff, however, needs some work. More often than not, I'll get someone cold and expressionless who tends to mumble. So asking them questions usually requires a hearing aid and a translator to get an answer. Also, ordering something else, if you want to, requires a bit of a wait as the waiters tend to take their time to check on you or even refill water. If it weren't for a poor waitstaff, this place would be a top spot in Brooklyn.

Overated!! Will Not Recommend!! – My girlfriend and I finally decided to give Blue Ribbon a try during the Brooklyn Restaurant Week 2010. We both ordered the $25 three course meal. The miso soup was okay, seaweed salad was nothing spectacular. I give the sushi and sashimi a score of 6 out of 10. The sushi were better than sashimi for some reason. Sure glad we tried them during restaurant week or I'll be definitely upset by the pricey menu & mediocre fish. There are other superb sushi options in Park Slope such as Yamato on 7th Avenue.

Not Worth It – I have lived in Park Slope for a few years and I finally decided to give this place a try. I was really, really disappointed.

The waitress was rude and the service was really slow even though there was only one other occupied table in the restaurant. The soup I ordered had very fresh vegetables in it but it was otherwise tasteless. My companion ordered a sushi platter and he said the fish was fresh but not worth the expensive price we paid. The dessert, on the other hand, was the best I've ever tasted so that saved the evening from being a total disaster.

The decor is great, really beautiful but I would have preferred to have an all around great meal especially for the prices. I have eaten at Yamato, 168 7th Avenue in Brooklyn, several times and it has always been so delicious. If you are looking for great sushi I would suggest going there instead.

Disappointingly uncreative omakase – I am ashamed of myself. I listened to some friends who had raved about Blue Ribbon Sushi's omakase even though my gut told me this place might be a tourist trap. Our server was gentle and polite, but our $50 omakase ruined our night. What I thought would be a many-small-course meal turned out to be a mediocre sushi-sashimi deluxe platter that was no better than any sushi eatery's in Brooklyn. A large 20-something-piece platter arrived at our table not even five minutes after we placed our order. Although the aji-on-the-fishbone and uni were fresh, the rest of the cuts were uncreative, standard, and quite small. I've never had to chew maguro so much in my life. And I was surprised that nigiri-sushi dominated the sashimi in both quantity and quality. My understanding of omakase (in both Japan and NYC) is that the chef uses his creative license with the freshest ingredients to bring his guests a unique, eclectic, personal dining experience. The fact that salmon sashimi was on my platter made me cringe. And although I enjoyed the perfectly crisp fried aji fishbones at the end of the meal, it was not the taste in my mouth I wanted to walk away with. Maybe we made the mistake by choosing to sit in one of the simple wooden booths as opposed to the sushi bar. Or maybe the mistake was their's, rushing out a premeditated omakase order that should be cherished by a chef in order to turn over tables. I should have trusted my gut.

great sushi, but not very "green" – I came here last week for a birthday dinner & was impressed with the high quality sushi. I have to say that my experience was a little tainted by the quality of the service (okay, but not great). They seemed annoyed when we asked for a quieter table in another section (rather than to be wedged in between two other tables). I understand that can be difficult to accomodate at times, but there were plenty of extra seating and it was not busy. Also, I was somewhat dismayed to see paper napkins and disposable chopsticks. I think for a restaurant of their caliber, they could (and should) be more environmentally friendly by providing reusable alternatives.

SNOOTY & HIGHLY PRETENTIOUS STAFF! – Excellent quality sushi - fresh and delicious, HOWEVER service did not match up. Staff did not immediately offer menus upon being seated, took forever to get a hold of, and did not offer the same type of service to us as they did to the other patrons at the time. When asked questions, this one server answered but with a sarcastic remark and smirk on her face. None of the waitstaff came over to check up on us - and it wasn't even that busy! Terrible, terrible service. If you want to pay $$$$$ for good quality sushi and lousy service, then come here.

YUM! – Best Sushi in Brooklyn by far. Expensive but so fresh and delicious. Great to bring out of towners...always a great experience. They don't take reservations but they do take your cell phone number and call you when your table is ready.

Great sushi and service – Blue ribbon sushi is excellent. We sat at the sushi bar and were entertained by the highly trained sushi chefs (who sliced an avocado into 80 think slices in less than 30 seconds). The sushi was the freshest we've ever had in Brooklyn. The service was great! I inadvertently left my purse under the sushi bar and thankfully the manager came running after us seconds after.

I highly recommend this place for the food, service and ambience. Best sushi in Brooklyn!
